For what it's worth I think you're on to something by deciding to take your time; I kinda bum-rushed to 50 myself, and now that I'm there, I'm wishing I'd have taken things a little slower. This thread's output is really impressive! Out of curiosity, for anyone who feels like answering - when you go into the character creator, what's your process? Do you have a specific image in your brain that you finagle the options to match, or do you form your image by looking at the options? If that makes any sense. Some real neat Ow Ree up in this place, I almost feel bad for posting my horned dingus here.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't slightly disappointed by the finalized design. I was definitely hoping for something less cutesy, and more strange/fey, ideally with a touch of savage for the Xaela. That's not necessarily a failing of the race itself, though; my expectations were just off-kilter from what they were actually aiming for, and that's okay. I'll still gladly play one because they do ultimately appeal to me for a main character in a way that no other race does, but I still can't help but wonder what could've been. Some of those scrapped ideas from the concept art album were really fucking rad. edit: Actually, if I were to make one legit critique, I'd say that I genuinely think it's kind of lazy that the Raen and Xaela are pretty much identical-looking when they're supposed to be diametrically opposite. Like, c'mon. Even suncats and mooncats have some notable physical differences. Throw a spike or two on those black scales or something, at least.

PT was absolutely amazing for what it was, and it's an incredible shame that nothing is going to come of it now. Silent Hills could've been the shot in the arm the series needed after so many flops and mediocre offerings. Playing PT is probably the only time I've felt genuinely unnerved by a videogame; only certain moments of the Siren series can even remotely compare. So much squandered potential. Hideo Kojimi is brilliant, the Metal Gear series is the only video game series that I consistently adore, and he was sooo close to working his weird, thoughtful magic on Silent Hill in a Kojima/Guillermo Del Toro dream team. I really, really hope that Kojima can keep on with his whole vibe, whether he finds a publisher that can appreciate him or goes indie or whatever. Insert Big Boss salute here.

Hi! Figured I should introduce myself. I've been poking around the forums the past week or so, and you all seem like a nice bunch. I play on Balmung as Grinning Jackal, and I'm sorry to say that I'm a newbie in every sense of the word; new to the game, new to MMOs, and new to RP. I've only just started playing FFXIV this month, actually. You may have seen me wandering around, looking tall and mildly highly confused, as is my wont. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? Uh, I don't know, exactly. Is "all of the above" a valid answer? It's the idea of cooperative, collaborative writing that drew me to RP, so the idea of character development and long term storylines really appeals to me, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at light social stuff, either. --Character ideas/info Well... right now I play a big fancy Roe bard lady, but as cool as dapper muscle-ladies are I've kind of had my heart set on the Au Ra since I first started, so she's probably going to be drinking a fantasia and eating a name change in the near future. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) Hmm. I'm a dumb dweeb from New Orleans, currently attending school out-of-state - I aim to go into counseling/mental health-related social work once I'm done with school, and I can be kinda hyper-intense about mental and physical wellness as a result. I'm pretty much incapable of even basic navigation without the help of GPS, and I get into vocal arguments with my phone on a fairly regular basis. The word "duty" makes me laugh when it's spoken out loud, because I am an idiot. I'm 5' tall, and dumb short jokes are the fastest way to make me go >:C.
