  1. This is my guess since it's claimed to be based on too many people logged in and not total number of characters on the server. If it was based on server... it would be 24/7 closed and would have been for a while... as it is, there is the tiniest gap of time when people aren't on after a maintenance when it's open. That said... they have to have that lockout set pretty darn low on the bandwidth scale to be locked so fast and to never been open during the week anymore. I've seen times when the server seemed fairly dead (by lack of people standing around Iddy and Ul'dah) but not being open. I feel they should take the route of locking it when it's at 90% percent capacity or maybe 80%... right now it's like they cut it off at 50% or even less. I've never seen or heard hard numbers on that part so it's pure speculation on when they set the cutoff but it just feels that it's set pretty low.
  2. Yeah... I thought I had it this time. Made sure I was updated and sat on the server status webpage, hitting F5 every few minutes while I had myself logged in on the launcher. I saw the servers open and logged right in and had the premade character... but after punching in my name, got an error that said they weren't taking new characters. Le sigh... such a tease. As far as the e-mail system, it obviously won't work for maintenance attempts... but more on the rare off-chance it opens up during the week in the wee hours of the morning.
  3. I got to the point where I could name my character and then got denied
  4. Site at some point went down for me... so maybe not a good resource then?
  5. Hmmm... it looks like it does an attempt ever 5 minutes? I'm not sure how though and if it is accurate. I'll try it though, see if it does anything.
  6. I'm still a bit miffed that the three new jobs had their iconic armor stuck behind a grind wall instead of given to them in their questline like the others. That said, I hope someone posts the female versions just to compare them which each other.
  7. I was gonna reply about databases but did not want to derail the thread further... that and Naunet summed up my feelings about it pretty easily. I did think of a way to possibly track openings when in game. I'm sure others have done it but maybe not. Just search for all players at level 1. If suddenly a lot pop up that are brand new or bot names... creation is probably open. It's not a perfect method... but we don't seem to have a perfect method currently.
  8. Question... is there a good place to get updated on when the servers come up early? Most of the news I see on the Lodestone is like right at the time they come back or a minute or two after... is there a place where that information is more timely? I know the other option is just clicking back and forth from world and back after logging in while waiting... I screwed up though last night by forgetting to patch before I started so I lost precious minutes and didn't get a character made. Also my biggest issue is not new people... it's the fact established people who are already taking up bandwidth because we're here, but we cannot make a new character who wouldn't take up any more bandwidth because we can't log in two characters at once.
  9. Part of me thinks they are just keeping Balmung 24/7 locked down and aren't even letting there be a chance that it opens back up... A lot of zones are devoid of people... like ghost towns... and still locked. I don't think they are going to open it up.
  10. Immediately after maintenance doesn't seem to be much of an option... just tried this morning, refreshing the world status on the login screen every so often in case it ended early. Was 2:14am PDT, 4 minutes after servers opened back up... already locked. Seems at this point it'll take a lot of luck and timing, or 18 dollars to get a new character on the server.
  11. Not to derail, but allow me to explain my own and my character's subversion on this matter. *snip* I think a big reason why a lot of Nunh's are leading (including my own) is the difficulty in finding a Tia who both wants to be in a tribe, and wants to lead. The first one is difficult by itself as I have noticed through observations and witnesses that most Tia's are alone so that they can find females. This of course makes almost zero sense to me when looking at lore, but there it is. Now the second is that a Tia also would have to want to lead the group which, is also not the easiest thing since not everybody wants to be a leader. It's a bit of a double whammy which leads most in game Nunh PCs to be leaders. On a side note, I see a lot of people comparing Miqo'te to various animal tribes as analogs and I don't see how that should be a valid comparison. It's safe to believe that like our human selves, all the races are capable of much higher thought processes than their animal counterparts. We don't look at other people and compare their habits to gorillas or apes, the comparisons we do make are those that are just instinct based and all creatures seem to have it (ie protect loved ones, mating, etc.). The idea that a Nunh would just abandon one of his own seems a bit far fetched and cruel and while I'm sure it has happened, I would think "human" compassion would kick in at some point. This may have been part of the point you were trying to make with your reverse patriarchy so to speak. The idea that the Nunh is given power instead of actually taking power. Higher thinking beings wouldn't put up with abuse or neglect if they have other options (yes I know that there are cases such as battered women with a bit of Stockholm syndrome but let's assume with the larger female support group, this is less likely). So a Nunh that is raping and pillaging through his own tribe would soon be left behind or killed in his sleep most likely. I'm all for not leading a tribe and spending my days hunting and sleeping but I know that I have to work within the confines of the players around me and most of them rather do their own thing which is perfectly fine, I just have to adapt to the situation handed to me.
  12. Many generations ago, the U Tribe of Forgotten Springs split into two in order to spread out the population and hunting grounds. The new tribe moved north to Gridania and nearby Ishgard to stay close to their Drake namesakes while enjoying new found hunts and adventures. However during the Calamity, the tribe was attacked by Ixali who proceeded to wipe out all but a few of the Miqo'te who resided there. U'mhega gathered up those he found and set out on a mission to rebuild what was once almost lost. Now having gained allies and supplies, the tribe is ready to live once more under the shade of the Shroud. An LS for U Tribe members on Balmung. LS is OOC to facilitate tribal RP. Tribe is based in Gridania and uses the Lifemend Stump as it's home location. Open to accepting Miqo'te and other races outside of the U if you are seriously interested. Send a tell to U'mhega Nunh in game if you have any questions or wish to join.
