  1. we are here to have fun not ruin the fun of others. never forget it, don't do anything to someone you would not want done to you. Simple advice but if you follow it you make your time, and the time of your fellow players, a lot better.
  2. This is why i do not make thousand year old martial masters of godly smiting and fresh cookies, when your doing table top you have more freedom to play with the story. In a MMORPG you have to conform to the world and its standards. You would not respect the "200 year old lallafel that tamed Bahumut and left him in the moon because he was bored" character. In MMORPG's i always create a character that is starting his adventure or new life, they may have experience at something but circumstances and choices do not let him be UBERMIENCH or even more than he currently is. Good example is my Warrior from WoW that was a defrocked Priest who had lost faith in the light. I could use lore to have knowledge of a priest but by choice and circumstance hes just a starting sell sword now. As to the main topic, i think your characters levels and skills are more IC than OOC and should be used as a guideline. I see a lvl one character with starting gear but get told that hes Odin's bastard son and has seen a thousand wars unscathed, im gonna think hes nuts (ICly) or a bad RP'er (oocly). Having an epic character is cool, but have a reason for them not to be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound or dismantle the aetheric wave forms with a toothpick. Have a 300 year old elf who has seen 100 years of combat but your only lvl 2, have him been 50 years out of practice/fitness. I had a City of Heroes player who's character was the son of an Archangel, who had the power to counter anyone's powers (even if it was power armor) if he got into a bind. That kinda thing burned me out on god level PC's, i think its just bad RP and god modding. As soon as you ignore the ooc and create something from your ego you run the risk of ruining the fun of the other players. now just breaking the mold and doing something unique is cool, just expect some hiccups when your fellow RP'er is confused at why your lvl 4 is communing with primals and getting them to tap dance lol
  3. the only time in my life orientation has ever bothered me is when im trying to talk to someone and they have their back to me lol. Seriously be yourself and have fun, if anyone gives ya grief we club'em like baby seals and feed them to primals. I have always said we are here to have fun not ruin the fun of others. Even if you RP a racist/speciest/bigot be courteous and send a tell to the people your RPing with to let them know its all in character, and be willing to drop it if it ruins the game for those people. I have never understood the need to shove ones personal beliefs into other peoples faces, always seemed rude to me lol. we are who we are be proud to know the people you do they are each unique and should be respected for that.
  4. I have always felt that as long as you stay Lore plausible have fun making a character you can be passionate about. Key thing is to have fun, and also welcome to the RPC from one new person to another
  5. The SCA is like that but with hard wood rattan for weapons and stricter armor standards, they also have very massive battles lol SJCzVscRgkw
  6. Greetings, Ive posted a few times before, i love this site and communtiy, now trying to get into the community in game. My wife and brother in law really hate forum boards so i am the official scout for our family of gamers lol. we are looking for a place to call home for some time to come. We have been bouncing from one game to another looking for a good one to spend time on. we are looking for that fun active community of RP'ers that we had on Star wars Galaxies, Everquest, Ultima Online, and City of Heroes. --MMORPG background I started with Everquest and spent about 5 years there, moved from that to Earth above and beyond till it died, then spent 90% of my game time on City of Heroes virtue server. Went to Guild wars 2 after that with sporadic forays into many other MMORPGs was sadly there for ArcheAge launch. Just left WoW wishing i hadn't spent as much as i did lol. --RP experience; I have been table top gaming since i was 14 (loooong time ago, played pre boxed D&D ), been a GM and campaign writer since i was 16 (even have a few published games with my names in the credits lol). Online i have been Rping since Everquest launched. Real life I do LARPS and fight in the SCA. started in Amtgard waaaay back in '88 and the SCA since '93. Also had fun in NERO D/FW, Dagorhir, and Belegarth. --Character ideas/info I create whole worlds for fun from single lines of poetry or a single picture, so creating just one character is very hard for me lol. here are the few i have permanently settled on. Thorgar Warhound: First born Hellsgaurd who believes his people have become too hidebound/traditional and left home with his Shield mate/wife to learn from other cultures the things that could help his people. Dirkha Dorgannon: A young Keeper of the Moon who has discovered a love of thrill seeking and skullduggery with a severe lack of the concept of personal property. Kroh Ironwing: A highlander from Ala Mhigo looking for a new place in life, accompanied by his wife they plan to carve a place for themselves in Eorzea. Nothriek An'nar: An Au Ra who was adopted by a hermit astrological engineer, who has imparted upon the young man a insatiable desire to take apart and understand the fundamental building blocks of the universe. --How did you learn about the coalition? a friend from Midnight Reveries gave me the link. --What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? I prefer Heavy but i am very flexible, I usually take my lead from who else I'm RPing with. Usualy have one channel for ooc and stay IC in the rest of the channels. That can change on game and on what the others RPing are more comfortable with. --Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I am ex US Army Heavy Artillery, I like to do live action Combat like the SCA or LARP like Amtgard. I am an apprentice sword & armor smith, Machinist, Welder, and Siege Engineer. I love to game and exercise my imagination but hate Drama for Drama's sake. Real life always comes before gaming, and i take my gaming manners as seriously as i take my safety in the shop or combat.
  7. Thanks all! I will be diving into that lore and ill post any questions i have for ya as soon as i know what i need to ask ^.^
  8. Hello again, My wife and I are trying to flesh out our characters, where can i track down lore on the game world? I've done a few rudimentary searches and come up with nothing that was actual lore. Thanks again for any help
  9. maintenance is never over.. for i have eaten the server hamsters Mwhahahahahahahaha
  10. Log in on a level one character LOL
  11. Thanks, i bookmarked the site and if we get any on Gilgamesh we will check it out. LOL I don't think Ive ever been on a game that feels like siege warfare just to get a character made on a specific server before. Yeah. You have to wait until the wee hours of the morning to get into either server. :C I dread trying to make my Au ra in a day or two. I'm fantasia-ing/namechanging another of my characters for juuust this reason. lol wrote my question while you posted it seems lol, my wife and I planned for that fantasia service/potion. glad i didnt get it wrong lol.
  12. I remember reading something about a race change potion/feature coming with the new expansion, we made a set of characters for using that. is that still viable or do you have to roll characters from scratch with the new race?
  13. Thanks, i bookmarked the site and if we get any on Gilgamesh we will check it out. LOL I don't think Ive ever been on a game that feels like siege warfare just to get a character made on a specific server before.
  14. We like to stay true to lore, though some times we will make plausible oddities, like a Charr raised by Norn (GW2). As for queue's we were at ArcheAge launch so I'm hoping its not that nightmaric lol. Where would be a good location to pick up on the Lore? personally I love reading about worlds and cultures, my wife has called me a recovering world-a-holic from all my table top RPG games I GM. Another few question, how important is a Free Company here in FFXIV? and where do i find out information on them? I will of course be reading these forums but any guidance to cut down the size of that task would be appreciated I probably have many more question, i just do not know what to ask lol.
  15. Thanks Unnamed Mercenary for the advice, just got three characters each onto Balmung! My wife is an altaholic but said it felt like a victory getting any characters onto the server lol. Thanks Natalie for the information, definitely need to read up more on the game.
  16. Thank you all for your input, I will relay this to my wife and see what happens. I might try the staying up late bit and try to get some characters in on one or both servers. complete newbie question though, what is a linkshell?
  17. My wife and I are new to FF14, loving the game and looking for RP. We were told to get on Balmung or Gilgamesh but our schedules do not seem to match the best times to get on lol. We have decided to pay for server transfers to get a set of characters on the right server. Now comes the hard part, which server is better for us? we are both old school RP'ers (she started in Ultima Online, I started in Everquest), we both want a fun and active RP community (we are currently testing out character ideas and classes on various servers lol). Where should we send out characters? Balmung or Gilgamesh. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
