  1. The miqo'te squints against the glaring coastal sun and wrinkles her nose. More of them. At least this one smells... like lavender? She has a momentary, vivid memory, but gulps it back when the two passerby begin conversing. Once the tall one tries to lift him, I'll strike. She lifts her heels, minutely, eyes fixed on the sand-strewn longsword. One of her hands rests on the rocky outcrop below her, the other hovers silently over the rough-hewn grip of a makeshift tomahawk.
  2. A scar-covered, mud-caked miqo'te peers out of a hedge of tangled brush that borders the shoreline, her ears flat. She growls. Someone beat her to her quarry. Her brass-colored eyes flit over the scene near the water's edge. Still alive... but too weak to put up much of a fight. The other one is scrawnier than a jackal. Maybe if I can get to that sword first I can gut them both.
  3. This is so helpful! I've wanted to make a Lominsan highlander but the character creation text's bit about how rarely they are seen in Eorzea outside Ul'dah always threw me off: "Of late, Highlanders have become an increasingly rare sight in Eorzea, their number almost exclusively by those who fled Ala Mhigo after its fall and now work in the desert city-state of Ul'dah as mercenaries and sellswords." Good to know the greater backstory of the exodus and other possibilities. I wish the game showed a bigger diversity of Highlander NPC characters!
  4. Arlon sounds like a more compelling concept to me—more elegant and simple. One thing I would consider in your development in terms of lore is that Highlanders are quite rarely seen as privateers (especially a Highlander of your character's father's generation) and I would use that aspect as something of an exercise in how his father became a seafaring type. For me, the transition from Ul'dahn sellsword/merc/bandit to privateer via Vesper Bay makes a lot of sense, dependent on whether Arlon's father came to Ul'dah either before or after Ala Mhigo's fall. I believe there are many who could help you develop that lore, and it might help you spread your RP across Limsa Lominsa to Ul'dah if you would like to have him RP there, too. Welcome! I have lurked here for quite some time, too, and am still having trouble deciding between concepts. I wish you happiness in whatever choice you make and hope to see in Limsa Lominsa sometime.
  5. Lately I have had a hard time branching out from the auto-generate names for Midlanders—the naming convention was tricky for me in terms of capturing the perfect medieval flavor rather than a bland one. This site was so amazing for Hyur Midlander names that I wanted to post and share it. It even contains many of the NPC names you see in game, already. Maybe many of you have seen this while making your hyuran characters before, too. It's a little tricky, because many of the nordic names suit Highlanders better and many of the names of French origin of course belong in Elezen naming conventions. http://www.infernaldreams.com/names/Europe/Medieval/England.htm
