Sooooo Gilgamesh isn't in the list since the NA/EU servers aren't active? I'll be playing on Bahamut instead atleast until it gets sorted out.

Who all is going to be up for the start of the test? I know I'm hitting the hay early thursday so I can be bright and bushy tailed for the 5am server up-time. Looking forward to running into some people during the testing, dinked around Phase 2 solo so it'd be nice to see some company.

Its still a bit silly for them to call that "Early June" when half the month is already gone by that point but I suppose if they're waiting for after E3 I can understand.

Ktahrl: Void Puppet Nyumo: Feisty Tsundere Nyumi: Secluded Bookworm (The latter two are works in progress, but Nyumo derives from my original FFXI character so a lot of the personality that developed from playing her will continue)

I did read all of it ;P and I think the whole thread was a bit of myself trying to remember that "I am not the main character". Its brought me back down to earth and helped redirect where the building blocks are going to be worked on. When I first thought of this character, it was actually from another persons thread and I was completely hype and like yo this is how its gotta go down and its going to be completely out of this world. I then started to delve into the lore about the Garleans, and the timeline involving them. Their motives, their culture, the people that are identifiable in their ranks (Nael Van Darnus and Gaius van Baelsar specifically) to better understand what I was going to be getting involved in. K'tharl is intended to be a lesser antagonist, so despite that I wasn't aware of the brainwashing that happened in the beginning, it isn't entirely out of the picture since it would just add to a secondary idea I've been tossing around with myself that I'll keep to myself for the time being. Will people be able to learn about you without you talking their ear off for hours about your unnecessarily detailed life story? This is something that is going to be interesting truthfully, because the truth of his origins will be clouded in falsehoods and covering his tracks. (Unless of course he puts himself in a predicament where someone will become suspicious of him and look to delve deeper themselves.) TL;DR THE TRUTH IS A LIE! (Also you can't offend/insult me, I want to be brought down a peg, I need to be.)

I felt mine was a bit overdue having been posting around the board a bit more often as it were. Thank you all for the welcome~

I wouldn't say it's completely off topic, so far my entire thread is about trying to hash out all the rough edges and get a better idea. We all have those moments of "who am I really"

I do hope I'm not coming off as taking the input and setting it aside. Everything so far everyone has said is being taken and is helping me realize what exactly I was saying in the first place. I was expecting a lot from a little and as it has been said stretching the limits to an almost breakable fashion. I suppose I don't know the full implications of the echo in itself so truthfully that may be one of the main things dropped entirely. It was mentioned before in the Faris/Celes thread about possibly taking a role that (for all I know) hasn't really been done before. I plan for K'tahrl to work for the Empire in a fashion, where he is loyal to the Garleans and despite his upbringing would do his duty for the empire and push aside the hate/animosity that is instilled in their youth. I think something that is being missed, is the character is being designed around aiding the Garleans, mainly through infiltrating the grand companies and using information gathered from them to weaken them from the inside or at the very least cause unrest through plans being foiled from leaks.

Does having a Vampyre Lord blacksmith that lives on the 6th tier of hell as a friend count?

No please do rain, make it rain all day. I want to have all the information I can exactly so I don't put myself into a lore blunder fest. I haven't read anything that would suggest the soldiers being brainwashed, aside from this- With that being said, I think that could be seen in the same terms of brainwashing as (not trying to start a fight here) religion in society, or on a less aggressive fashion just overall brainwashing children to like particular things over another. I hadn't seen anything about actually forcing someone into their train of thought. Echo - So far the only mention I'd found on their reaction to the echo was from the same page as the last quote with Now that was where I was going to have a bit of a big bite to take to figure out how to make such a thing work. Where a lot of K'tahrl's 'training/upbringing' would've been shadowed even in the Garlean Empire, aiding in the Espionage aspect of his character design. (If this wasn't apparent, K'tahrl isn't going to be one of the good guys) tl;dr I am open to any insight I am missing with what limited resources there are. This is still an ever evolving character design and input is gladly taken and wanted. @Vareal The idea that I have for all of this, was K'tahrl was born around the time of Theodorac, the tyrannical leader of Ala Mhigo who was killing his own people condemning them to heresy against the throne, in 1552 (20 years prior to Dalamud falling). He would be 5 when the empire took over Ala Mhigo and with his parents no longer in the picture(most likely executed as heretics), would have been picked up by a soldier of the empire and brought into Garlemald (thus ending any real connection to Ala Mhigo)

Okay so plenty of people have checked out this post and on hindsight when I posted this I've noticed I really didn't have a lot to go on or much of an actual inquiry. After I posted this thought process I actually started talking with my friend about the brainstorm I had and here's what I'd had in mind and what to know if this could be a valid backstory. (~ will be approximates) 1552 - K'tahrl born into a small miqo'te clan in Ala Mhigo 1554 ~ Parents executed by the "Divine ruler Theodorac" with their presence in The Fist of Rhalgr. 1558 ~ After the Garlean take over of Ala Mhigo, the orphaned K'tharl is taken in by one of the occupying soldiers. 1562 - Has his first echo experience and causes a bit of a stir in his present company. Taken before a hearing amongst the Legatus to describe the event, most brush it off and some even express hostility to the 'gift'. One whoever sees a possibility in using the echo as a way to get information that by normal means would be impossible to attain and takes him into his care. (Most of the rest of what I wrote to him is up in the air but these are the things that I think are pretty solid possibilities.)
-
So while continuing the ever draining brainstorming of a backstory, I came across a particular idea, but with little lore to go on behind it I am a bit apprehensive to how well it would go. Its never stated what Ala Mhigo's intentions were when trying to invade Gridania, and so far the only racial mention of the populous is when they were defeated by the Garlean's which is noted mainly here. Something that was a curiousity as well is how little is known about the Fist of Rhalgr monks. So with all that semi setup, what would the likelihood of miqo'te being found in Ala Mhigo. Would they be allowed to be a part of a seemingly sacred group of monks? The more lore I find the deeper I want to go, inception that shit. The only problem truly is the lack of feasible lore to run with.

Okay so I've just been throwing my weight around here like I'm totally the smarty mc nerd pants around here when I've seriously got no clue what I'm talking about half the time aside from speculations from the mountains of half information everyone has access to. So I should probably take a second and just be like, hey its never too late for first impressions after your first impressions have been first impressed. MMO Background - I can't say really what would be my full background experience is with MMO's. If you consider Diablo one, then that would be the beginnings of my journey in the lands of people playing games with a monitor between us. I didn't dabble in anything more than that until I found out about FFXI and was instantly hooked on the idea being a derpy FF fanboy. Started playing FFXI on PS2 at my fathers during my summer vacation with him and spent about 3 months playing on a mithra samurai and was completely enthralled in it. I got the game for myself a few months later with my own account on PC and recreated my mithra once more (I liked the dexterity boost, thinking it actually had an impact on jobs) Nyumo on Asura, I spent probably a good 5 years of on and off again playing and got my Paladin to 63 before ultimately putting the game down with real life getting in the way (was having trouble focusing on school and had to take extra classes to graduate because yeah I was just completely disinterested in school). After graduating I just felt completely dissolved from FFXI because most of my friends had either left server or the ones who were still there had gotten into a huge drama bomb and finalized my departure from FFXI. I eventually picked up wow during the WotLK expansion and leveled a Prot Paladin to end game, but because of my inconsistency with when I was on and off I never bothered to get into an end game guild and played for funsies. I quit playing WoW a little bit before Panda's came out, deciding I didn't spend enough time actually playing the game anymore and was just sinking money into something I was disinterested in. I tested FFXIV for its first run and was overall completely stunned at just how mismanaged it was and ended up not buying it like I'd originally planned (had pre-ordered it fully and had to pull that back because of how upset I was). I understand a lot of people stayed, but I think what ultimately killed the game for me was like not even a few weeks before the game was released I would be in combat and it would say things like "cannot attack this target" while it was beating the snot out of me and I'd have to run to try again to no avail. I've dabbled in other MMO's such as Tera, Guild Wars 2, and SWTOR. Though the interest in each game subsequently fell short to the amount of dedication and love I had for FFXI. I know no game can ever truly live up to your beginnings, but atleast with WoW I didn't get the feeling like it had to live up to my start. I got spoiled with both games in their own rights that so far I've yet to come across that same passion (atleast until I saw ARR coming, and all hope was restored and I've been gushing about it since) RP Experience - Yikes, if you thought my MMO background was 'extensive' (jk I'm sure I'm still just a big baby when it comes to mmo's) then imagine the RP experience. I just can't even begin to think of where to start with this. I've been roleplaying since I was 11 (I'm almost 26 now) way way back when, when there was a program (I THINK it was mirc) that you could have characters pop up with different expressions to whatever you typed, it was the VERY beginning for me and I do miss that experience but that was (to me) back when the internet was still a fledgling. After that whole shenanigans I started perusing through yahoo group rp's and came across a Jedi rp (because star wars was a huge thing for me as a kid, don't know why) and that was such a huge transition into a whole different realm because these were people who were completely versed in literature and a whole world at their beck and call and I was along for the ride as their padawan learner of a race completely of my own (jk I was just some guy with cat ears and a cat tail... wait that sounds familiar... eh whatever it reminds me of I'll think of it later) It was also the first time I'd experienced the romantic side of rp, in which my mentor was a person of admiration and affection, jedi code be damned. Somewhere along the lines the whole group died from inactivity, not sure who was the original instigator but it was quite disappointing because the big bad was never really dealt with. I've since bounced through the rp realms, including by not limited to avidgamers, gaia online, neopets (ha...), and other miscellaneous sites I have long since forgotten because they are literally relics beyond ever being found again. One of the last roleplays I've done was for a Dynasty Warriors scenario, in which I played a follower of the big bad of their setting. Remember that time I mentioned I'm not adverse to being on the back end of a bad situation? I was the devil incarnate in this setting, despite my 'leader' being the main villain in the group, he was not the one to raise his fist to his adversaries. He was diplomatically evil, I was his sword and thus the whisper in his ear for continued bad doings and conflicts. Death was the name of the game and everyone was on the losing end of the game, blood was his paint and his blade was the brush. Still had to be like one of my favorite recent rp's I've had the pleasure of attending, sadly I got sucked into more real world stuff and had to put the blade down and that kind of ended a lot of the conflict on the board. Character ideas/info - K'tharl is currently up in the air as there is a lot of unknown going on with how ARR will be perceived with everyone coming back from their 5 year slumber (or how those who didn't get warped will see the world after the wrath of bahamut was unleashed). So far the only solidified facts about him will be that his was orphaned far into his past that he doesn't recall anything of having his own birth family aside from a keepsake that hangs from side bangs (undetermined object, hairstyle with not much in character creation yet). Depending on whether or not K'tharl will be inherently good is still undecided but is leaning towards a brainwashed youth into espionage (youth as in like 20 when Dalamud falls, 25 when ARR starts) Character quirks may be but are not fully hashed out, he will more than likely be of the sarcastic and/or snarky attitude, mild flirtation depending on the situation. Will fiddle with the keepsake in his hair regularly while conversing with others. If I go the route of Garlean subjugate he will have either a tattoo or a brand of their flag on his ribcage under his right arm. More to come when I know what my brain is telling me (aside from maiming innocent lalafell) How did you learn about the coalition? - Was partaking in the wonders of reddit's FFXIV subreddit and saw people inquiring about roleplaying with the game and now you're stuck with me mwuahhahaha. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy? I am usually medium to heavy in the roleplaying aspect (in terms of forum based atleast, I am terrible at in game roleplay for some reason because my minds eye is better than my own two) If you catch me in game and want to rp, it may be dumbed down to light because I have to put a lot of thought behind what I rp sadly. Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc) I'm just an average joe drudging through work each day, currently my hobbies are listening to music and league of legends. I am currently working on getting a different shift at my job so that I can be awake at regular times to get back into my old passions of regular concert going and weekend adventures out of town. It's been a crazy road for myself with a lot of traveling in just the last 4 years (3 different states, 5 different cities?) Aside from that I'm just a super chillax guy that is about as mellow as it gets. Well that sure was a lot of words, I wasn't actually expecting to put as much as I THINK I have, I mean it could've been a lot more (I skipped some HUGE points in my rp world to try and save on all the wordage and tried to keep it relevant to more entertaining stories) So yeah first impressions are re-had now. Cupcakes TL;DR Words words words words

It wouldn't be the first time I've played the role of the bad guy, its been awhile but it'd be quite entertaining. Even with being ousted as a spy I wouldn't imagine it'd be completely isolating, there are those who enjoy a bit of conflict, but I understand the warning.
-
I've been trying to decide on what I've wanted to do with K'tahrl since I began brainstorming his creation and I just about flipped my keyboard at the thought of a young Garlean spy amidst the grand companies. I'm not sure how many people actually play the bad guy in the FF RP's but I would totally be down for being an antagonist, it is one of the most entertaining roles and can create such great character development in more than just the player himself. ahhhhh my brain is abuzz with this train of thought. :cactuar:

For the SE running a census, I'd still say that despite the ability to make male miqo'te now, the general population will be most Hyur/Elezen over the others, though I think the minority will become the Roegaedyn(sp?) more so than they already were. I think what they were trying to get is that female offspring are much more common than male, so lets say there's a 1 to 5/10 ratio for births, for everyone one male born to a miqo'te tribe there would be 5 to 10 girls born. It'd make a bit more sense then that the males would have a situation like they were, because genetically they are of a rarer nature. This is all huge speculation and overall just playing with what SE's given us.

You are correct sir, apostrophes will be/are a thing for ARR so "lore friendly" naming conventions will now be viable.
-
Okay so the possibility of having a full blooded Mi'qote born in say Limsa/Ul'dah wouldn't be completely unheard of / unprecedented and could allow me to work on a backstory while getting to familiarize with my character as well? Also it wouldn't be off course to say he spent his 5 years in the time skip helping restore whichever his home city-state of origin is?
-
Hey there everyone, so I've been contemplating getting involved in the RP scene when ARR is released, and wanted to make a Male Seeker of the Sun as my character for all the coming developments. When the naming conventions came out that actually put me off to the idea, since a lot of the traditions of the Mi'qote are very different from a direction I thought I would take with him. Something that's been on my mind lately, are Mi'qote are able to bear offspring from a race other than their own? Or would that line of Mi'qote know that they won't have any children if they were to stay monogamous with say an Elezen?
