  1. Well, consider this for a moment...if your character were to become a White Mage, that would likely be an extremely well-guarded secret. The magic is forbidden, after all. But then, how many people actually know what Succor looks like when it's used? It would take someone with very specific knowledge to be able to say in-character that they know you were using Succor (if, indeed, you ever did use it in-character). The other thing that I was going to point out is, some people would say, "Oh, well, if I can't be open about it, what's the point? If no one knows, I might as well be a Conjurer?" But that's not entirely true. Sometimes the internal story of a character is every bit as important as the story everyone else sees. Imagine holding the hope of all mankind, and having the power to use it, and having to choose not to do so for the greater good. Or knowing that you could save your friends from some fate, but knowing that you absolutely must not because of the circumstances. There's a lot of character growth and development that can be structured around something like that. But, of course, there are those who will have a problem with you playing a White Mage the moment they find out OOC. Then again...they would probably have a problem with you playing a Conjurer if they didn't like the exact way you go about doing so. Or a problem with your healing actually working on other people (which is a really strange issue I've run into recently - people seem quite hostile to the idea of magical healing working...in a high-magic setting with magical healing  ). So, really, it's a question of what you're willing to put up with, and what you really want. But if you want to play a White Mage, I do recommend that you become one in-character as part of story, not in your background before you entered the game IC. Becoming a White Mage through story development rather than backstory seems like a great idea, and given recent developments in my character's story, I might actually try to move in that direction. Thank you for that tip! Also, I apologize for the extremely late reply.
  2. I believe it basically falls into game mechanics, not lore itself. That said, if you are truly wanting to play a White Mage for whatever reason, it's possible. Just tell a story that's convincing. Come up with a good story for how your character was chosen by the Padjal or the Elements (or got a hold of an Amdapori Soulstone) to be trained. And then play it. Some people will be cool with it. Some people won't be. With most, it will depend on how convincing your story is, and how well you play it out. I've been debating a White Mage story for some time now, however, I almost feel as though the job is too taboo in roleplay lore at this point. I'll write a few drafts, taking into account the lore behind White Mages and see if I can come up with something plausible.
  3. That's what I assumed, but I thought it might be prudent to mention it.
  4. I suppose I should revive this thread given the recent addition of Modern Vocation to the game/world which, presumably, allows those not specifically trained in certain arts to learn the ways of forgotten battle techniques. Again, I am particularly interested in the presence of White Mages in FFXIV roleplay, which I was told earlier in this thread and from other sources is a very taboo job considering the greatly political nature of the job and the exclusivity of the magic. Has Modern Vocation been considered for roleplay use at all? And if so, what is the general consensus from the community when it comes to using this as a means to have exclusive jobs easier to explain/accessible for normal characters? Thank you for your time! Edit: This thread probably belongs in FFXIV Discussion now, if somebody has a chance to move it!
  5. You may want to look into Wayfarers. They certainly fit into the casual, slice of life atmosphere. Haven't had a chance to meet everyone yet, but those I have met/RPed with have been awesome. ^^ Thank you very much for the suggestion! They seem like exactly the type of community I'm searching for!
  6. I'm having the same issue at the moment, and I suppose rather than posting a new thread, I'll just boop a reply on this one. Essentially, I'm looking for a somewhat casual roleplay company. While I don't mind a definitive story being present, I'd still like there to be time for casual, slice-of-life moments. Perhaps a communal living/tavern atmosphere? If anybody has/knows of any free companies that might fit this description, I'd really appreciate the mention.~
  7. Just a quick question! Would anybody be able to craft me a Chrysolite Ring of Healing if I pay for the materials? I'm tired of having this Halonic Preist's Ring and I need something to hold me over until I get my Esoteric gear. Thank you in advance!
  8. Ah! Unfortunately, Sarina is straight, and I'm unable to adjust her very much due to a rather significant event in her backstory.
  9. I agree! That's why I mention the romance as possible. I prefer to let the roleplay progress as it will due to character interactions. If the characters are naturally seeming to move in that direction, then so be it!
  10. I'm searching for a long-term roleplay partner that is interested in emotion-driven roleplay, character development, and the possibility for marriage and romance. Humorous moments and general slice-of-life stuff is loved as well. Due to my character's backstory, I am mostly searching for somebody that is able to somewhat relate to Sarina and support her while also helping her to overcome the horrors she's experienced. A pillar of support, rather than somebody to lean on, so to speak. Race matters little to me, but as an interest for marriage and romance, I would prefer a male character. Also, please note that although I am interested in marriage and romance for my character, such things will have to develop naturally through the roleplay for me to consider them. I'm often available from the early evening (~5PM EST) to early morning hours during weekdays and weekends, with obvious exceptions when something has come up or I am otherwise occupied. Although I am a heavy roleplayer, I still enjoy playing the game, and as such, I am not always available to roleplay every time I am in-game. Also, feel free to read Sarina's backstory to gain a general understanding of what she's been through. (It is still evolving, but the general skeleton and theme is there. I won't be modifying much of her early backstory.) If you are interested, please send me a private message or a /tell in-game. I would be quite happy to elaborate further. I may be opening this thread again in the future, however, I'm not currently seeking at the moment.
  11. Oh! I didn't even notice! Should I just wipe my profile and paste it on a new page, then? (Following your guidance above.)
  12. Hello! Just a quick question! What is the best way to manage multiple characters on the wiki? Are we able to create new pages for our alternate characters even though they are not attached to an account? Also, as a little side-note, is there a way to remove the "User:" prefix for character profiles on the wiki? Thank you in advance!
  13. That's great! I'll have to give it a shot when I have access to my games! Thank you very much!
  14. I would love to join, if you have room for me.
  15. I would love to join if there are any spots left.
  16. Just a quick question! I have a couple old item codes from my copies of FFXIV version 1.0 that were never used. (Garlond Goggles and the Onion Helm) Has anybody tried to redeem these in the current version of FFXIV? I know the items are practically nonexistent at present (I've only ever seen one Onion Helm), but it would be nice to have them if it is possible. I would try it, but I don't have the codes with me at the moment. Thank you in advance!
  17. My apologies for the delay- thank you to everyone for the warm welcome!
  18. Hello! I'm somewhat new to the FFXIV roleplaying community, despite it being several months since I transferred from Famfrit to Balmung. A friend told me that Balmung was an amazing roleplay server, and considering my interest in roleplaying on chatrooms, I thought it would be interesting to give Final Fantasy XIV roleplaying a shot. Final Fantasy XIV is the first MMORPG that I really got into. I've tried playing TERA and World of Warcraft in the past, but this is the first one that really hooked me into the lore and story. Despite being a post-2.0 player, I've fallen in love with the story and lore through version 1.0 and all the way to the latest patch of A Realm Reborn. There is just something about the experience this game gives you that is special from any other MMO I've played. I'm also a massive fan of the entire Final Fantasy series! I've been roleplaying for over nine years now, and am still an active member of two different roleplaying sites- where I have a large variety of characters that I play. My favorite genre would have to be emotion-driven romantic roleplays with a considerable amount of drama. However, I'm not interested in romance without build-up! It just ruins the experience for me. I have several characters on A Realm Reborn, however, Sarina Alyne is my main character that I intend to use for roleplay. I've finished her profile on the wiki, so feel free to take a look if you'd like.~ Google brought me here! I assumed there would be some sort of community for roleplaying in FFXIV, and sure enough, here it was! (Though it is considerably bigger than I anticipated!) I am a fairly serious and heavy roleplayer, with my posts often dipping into multiple paragraphs (and even pages) on the chatrooms I'm involved in. However, on FFXIV, I tend to keep my posts a bit more concise. I'll be making a post in the near future searching for the specific type of roleplay I've been wanting to do, so ... Look forward to that, I guess? ^^" Thank you!
  19. OK! ...If I can help out with stuff in the future, feel free to poke me anytime. I don't really engage in raiding anymore, so I most just idle around if not RPing. Thank you very much! Perhaps we could roleplay at some point?
  20. Don't worry about it! Aris made them for me. Thank you very much for the swift response and offer, though!
  21. I'm online at the moment, and I can go get the cashmere and latex right now! Just send me a tell when you are online, and we'll meet up! I should be online for most of the day.
