An update on Gil's life: Rihxo just broke up with him and so he has retreated to Ishgard to nurse a broken heart.

Welcome! The first thing to be aware of is in game, special emotes are /em unlike every other program I've ever used. Also, there is a patch update (3.15) coming 12/15, so 12/16 might be a good day to try and get on Balmung if you are wanting to try the right after maintenance route. If I recall correctly, the server is supposed to come back up at 3:00 am PST. If you start to figure out a character, I'd be happy to RP with you, even to help you figure out more about the character. I have three you can choose from

I want to follow up on the RP stuff. YES, THERE IS RP IN UL'DAH. If you go to the adventurer's guild, that is where a lot of people meet up for random RP. That said, you do have to be aware of the ERP'ers, if you do not wish to ERP, make sure you tell them no. If they continue to press you, report them for harassment, though I've not had any issues with that. Is the RP in Ul'dah as high quality as organized RP events? That depends on the day and who you interact with. Some of the RP events are people that only want to RP with their 'buddies' and if you are looking for new friends, you can feel left out (personal experience speaking here). Just look at people's search info, and I'm sure you will find someone in the Quicksand (adventurer's guild) that you would be interested in talking to. It's almost always busy, so be prepared for wall of text, especially during evenings and weekends.

If you are willing to help me, or wait until I flesh him in a little bit more, it sounds like R'theqe would be a good buddy/rival. R'theqe, much like his sister Rihxo ^, is very outgoing and always looking for a little bit of trouble. He's spent the last 8 years with the PUG guild and he's perpetually training. He's competitive but one of those that will happily fight friends just as easily as an enemy and it won't impact their relationship. If you're interested, you can look me up in game, or send me a PM. I've been working on leveling R'theqe, so I've been on him a little more frequently.

Lol, now don't be like that. I'm often told I look younger than I am, and act older. I'm sure it isn't helped by the fact that I'm 6 years older than my youngest brother and Dad wasn't around much, so I was the closest to a second parent that was there all the time.

Although I am older than many that I talk to, I'm afraid LOtRD predates not just my teenage years, but even my family's first computer. We did not get a computer until my mom went to college. And thanks, I look forward to talking with you more!

-waves- Hello everyone, I wanted to a quick intro to me post. I go by many names, Shelby or any of my character names are acceptable. I have been role playing off and on for 15 years, starting with D&D. My first MMORPG was Realms of Kaos. It was a lot different playing an MMO on dial-up (x.x). Thankfully, dial up is no longer the norm, so we can have the wonderful graphics we do. I moved into WoW when it first released, but after about 6 months, ended up taking a break of many years. By the time I came back to it, Cataclysm was released, and I played until just after Mists. I quit MMO's until I discovered FFXIV. I currently have three characters I play on Balmung (although I have 5 others created to fantasia as ideas come up). Trin Morwen was my original character, and he's my endgame content runner as well as my initial RP character, though I no longer think of him as my main. Gil Vel'jendahr or Gillandaris vel Jendahr is my main. He is the character I spend most of my time on in game. Finally I also have R'theqe Matoi. I am a medium RP'er, and am not completely opposed to any type of RP, though when it comes to ERP, I am a person that feels it has a time and place. Currently none of my characters would be in a place for ERP. I have recently returned to school full time after serving in the military, and while my classes and family obligations come first, I am usually found online if I am awake.

It would be interesting to see how Gil reacts!

Throwing this out here. -tosses Elezen Dragoon into fray- Gil's wiki has more information, but I'll give a quick rundown of who he is and what he's looking for. Gil was born in Coerthas Western, but moved to Ishgard after the Calamity froze the region. He then left Ishgard to train with Ser Alberic and get away from his over-protective parents. Recently, Gil has made a new home in Limsa with his girlfriend Rihxo Matoi (who I'm sure wouldn't mind more RP either). Gil can be found in Ishgard, or with Ayled wherever that may be. Gil can find a reason to travel anywhere though, so if you can't (or don't have a reason to) get to Ishgard, PM or /tell and Gil can find a reason! He would be happy to make new friends (although he can be hard to read and does not trust easily) and possibly new enemies. Edit: Updated to reflect how and where Gil can be found not that he is no longer dating Rihxo.
