  1. Blue Mage. Hands-down Blue Mage. At least, theoretically. I know that FFXIV is not FFXI (and I don't want it to be), but if it's even half as cool in XIV as it was in XI, then sign me up. BLU was my absolute favorite job in FFXI. A dual-wielding caster? Yes, please.
  2. This is an interesting question. One I unfortunately cannot fully answer. He has some trinkets and baubles that have some meaning, but nothing that really defines him. I could say a big pile of rope. Amuro likes to sneak off and take naps inside big coils of rope when he should be un/loading cargo on the docks of Limsa Lominsa. This is a question I'm going to keep in mind as I discover more of who Amuro is.
  3. A surname for your Miqo'te that fits the conventions of another race could be a good icebreaker when meeting new people for RP. It's a story to tell, something that can be recognized at a glance on a meta-game level. =) So even if people do look at 'Aergwilf' and think, 'Huh, that's odd .. ', I think it will be in a curious kind of way that invites conversation. I also have a lot to learn about the lore of Eorzea. A lot of my time between now and EA is going to be spent studying up.
  4. I think she looks good. I love female Roe, myself, and would love to see more. Unfortunately, I personally won't be adding to the number of female Roe out there. I'm pretty set on my Miqo'te.
  5. Since I'm sort of banking on the idea of FF XIV being the MMO that really gets me back into RP, plus having recently discovered what a tumblr is, I'm on-board with making one for my main. Mostly just for a screenshot gallery. But if my rusty writing gears start cranking again, I might keep an IC journal for him, too. Not that my main is the type to keep a journal. But that doesn't mean I can't keep one for him. =) The problem I have with any sort of journal is I get half-way through a post, wonder if it's even worth saying, and then just scrap the entire thing. So we'll see how it goes. I used to keep this kind of stuff collected in whatever RP guild I had joined, but I like the idea of having a personal link that I can maintain myself, and can be ported around if/when I move somewhere else (guild-wise).
  6. FreelanceWizard already gave some great advice, but I'm gonna throw in my two cents because naming conventions for my Miqo'te main is something I struggled with. I didn't want to go with Tia or Nunh, because it would bug me a lot if my Miqo'te's status changed from one to the other. A silly thing, perhaps, but I just know it would. Seeing 'Tia' if my main was a Nunh, or 'Nunh' if he was a Tia would irk me. So I went with an unconventional name, and basically plotted a story for that name like FreelanceWizard suggested. And since characters don't know meta-game knowledge like the big name floating above peoples' heads, I'm free to introduce my character's status however I want without having to look at a nameplate that may be false. For me it was a compromise. I don't like not following the convention (this is an insecurity, but I also don't like that some people might look at my name and think I didn't care enough to follow convention), but giving my character a permanent last name, when that name can change, was more bothersome to me. On the upside, fleshing out the origins of my Miqo'te's name helped me discover more about who he is as a person. And that's always a plus. .. okay so that was more like a dollar and change rather than two cents, but there it is.
  7. The wait is agonizing. But, here is my list of things that will keep me busy. Work Catching up on various Netflix shows. Skyrim (freshly modded to Ifrit's Cauldron and back) Payday 2 Papers, Please Oh, and the PC version of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow releases the same day as FF XIV's official launch.
  8. I. Basic Info Characters: A'muro Nunh, Iaian Lawfer, Jandor Leingod, A'muro Tia. Primary character: A'muro Nunh. Linkshells: None, yet. Primary RP linkshell: None, yet. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm running an instance for the first time, RP is usually not my first concern unless I happen to be in a full group of RPers. I guess overall I would say I am a Medium RPer. I'm in-character more often than not, but even when I'm RPing I enjoy OOC chatter either in whispers or in linkshell chat. Though if a scene is particularly tense/intense, I lean more toward total immersion. I RP a lot by myself, too. Small things. Like having my character wipe sweat from his brow after he's been chopping at trees for a few hours, etc. Views on RP combat and injuries: If it's an injury that's going to incapacitate a character in any way or leave a permanent mark, I prefer to talk it out beforehand. It's not imperative, but personally if I planned to do harm to another character I would ask for their consent first. And should one of my character's suffer a broken bone or fall into a coma, I will be faithful to that when RPing with others, but it won't stop me from leveling or anything else that's gameplay-based. As for the combat itself, I don't really have any favorite way of going about it. I like just writing descriptive fighting posts and having my opponent react to them, just with the kind of trust that neither of us will god-mod. I have this fantasy of making a duel system based off of base stats, but not every MMO allows for the type of rolling required. I think when RP combat gels like it should, there's this kind of unspoken connection, and things will flow organically. Though surely there are times when the victor/loser are scripted in advance, or when the combatants recognize who the likely winner will be (like the patient mentor putting an upstart pupil in their place or something). Views on IC romance: I've been all over the place with IC romance. From planned, scripted romance to having it grow organically over time (preferred). I know it seems generally frowned upon, but if your RP end-game is to have your character find love, go for it. If you prefer love scenes to fade to black, go for it. If you enjoy playing out those more intimate scenes, go for it (as long as the involved parties keep it private). I don't have a lot of judgements when it comes to RP romance. Whatever makes you happy. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I dunno if I really have a 'view' for stuff like this. If you want your character(s) to be related to others, then by all means. Views on lore: I'm not concerned with sticking 100% to the lore as I am with not completely breaking it. If you don't want to follow the naming conventions for your race, that's fine. But RPing some race that's not even in the game is crossing the line for me. I'm a little more lenient for human characters RPing that they somehow came from another dimension (or even another game). Not really my cup of tea, but if you can make it work, good on ya. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /say has always been IC to me. I would like Shout to be IC, but usually it's not by virtue of the sheer volume of people that don't use it that way (not saying they're wrong for it). 'Global' channels are definitely OOC to me, and Linkshell/Free Company chat is whatever the leader(s) say it is. III. Other Info Country: US Timezone: CST Contact info: PM, or in-game via characters listed above (primary most likely). Also I'm usually willing to share my various IM client usernames.
  9. So .. yeah. I've been a lurker on these forums for a long time (minus a post or two); partly because I'm shy, and because I haven't been part of the RP world for a long time. But with Early Access/official launch right around the corner, I figure it's now or never to introduce myself. *waves* Hello, RPC! I love what you've done with the place. I've been role-playing for about fifteen years. I got my start in Ultima Online and have since RP'd in a long list of MMOs (and sometimes forums, IM clients, etc). Table-top gaming has rarely been an option for me, unfortunately. It's been a while since I've really dug into a MMO's lore and entrenched myself in a character. World of Warcraft was the last game I was truly devoted to in an RP sense. I was an officer in a heavy RP guild. I wrote stories and posted on forums all the time. The works. I've had smatterings of RP here and there in other MMOs since then, but nothing too involved or prolonged. I hope to return to that kind of devotion in XIV, which is a surprise. I never thought this game would amount to anything more than a black spot on the Final Fantasy legacy (absolutely no offense intended for anyone who genuinely enjoyed 1.0). But I feel something when I log into my character that I haven't felt in the other MMOs I've sampled recently. And I want to chase that feeling. Alrighty, rambling over. I look forward to making some friends here. =)
  10. My plan was to resume my Legacy character. But then male Miqo'te happened ..
  11. My old character from 1.0 time skipped. But my main for ARR will have lived out those five years normally, so that's where I put my vote.
