1. So after scouring the forums for definitive mention for my question and not finding exactly what I wanted, I decided to make this thread about asking for the validity and believability of something I wish to do with my character Yomi. Basically I seek to have her return to the village she and her liege lived in, to scour it for anything she did not bring along in her escape, and finding scriptures as well as a soulstone. Imprinted in this are the lieges memories and perhaps a tiny aspect of what she used to be, her personality/character. What I now wanted to know was if there was a lore-friendly, or atleast believable way to extract or somehow "paste" these memories into life, save a doll or a familiar which I'd portray with the Blizzaria minion. This creation would not be the actual person come to life, but rather something mimicking her based on those memories contained within the soulstone. I found this concept an interesting idea to kickstart my characters journey as for now she was doing little more but wallow and loiter. To give her a goal and a journey, as well as a form of "reward". Along with this I would like to use this familiar as tool to provoke Yomi into action more often and to act as an "internal" source of motivation to get her out of her normal comfort zone, as well as a way for me to influence her growth and personality without having her act contradictory to her character. I am looking forward to any feedback I can get on this topic and want to thank you for taking time out of your day for reading and replying.
2. After a lengthy break from FF14 and some time to do a read up on all that's been happening since I've left, it's finally time for me to throw myself back in the ring. I present now my new Character, Yomi Aogane. The link to her wiki page is in my signature and here . What I am looking for, hooks (IC): -Casual contacts. While Yomi isn't a heavy drinker she does frequent taverns on her journey and travels through the realm. A little casual conversation about travels, adventures and trials that were faced and triumphs to celebrate in some way are always more enjoyable and memorable when shared! -Merchants, Smiths, Alchemists. Both her obsession over any form of bladed weaponry and her profession as a shinobi devour a healthy amount of equipment. Someone has a fascinating new weapon imported from Doma, or conducted a new toxin more efficient than normal, or just have a ton of vaguely high quality throwing knives? Yomi will probably want to strike a deal. -Adventure! Food, shelter, equipment, all of it costs money, of course. And while she has a humble sum stored away for emergencies, she does perk up when hearing of a good job offer that could reward her handsomely. Without some material reward, convincing her will be hard though. Look at the point above this though for non gil related inspiration! -Conflict/news from "home" While Yomi wasnt some well-known figurehead, word of her past could have circeled around in Doma proper, as well as among some of those who fled along with her. It could be feasible that someone caught wind atleast of the rough cut of her story. What then? Confront her about it? Slide it into conversation to get a clearer picture? Or outraged enough to storm at her and demand a duel? Considering how sensitive this part is I'd appreciate it if we'd discuss the possibilities of other characters knowing of her past before it being brought up in character, I hope that this is a reasonable request. On the other hand, she still does keep to her promise of returning to fight for her home, yet her main reason not to being the futility. As she is not aware of any of the current events in the east, someone who is and informs her could throw a right curveball into her current life. And any credible information, or the promise thereof, would be sure to attract her attention. OOC Information: I'm from Europe, so my Timezone, GMT+1, has me on times that are somewhat NA unfriendly. Until I go to Uni later this year though I have somewhat of a night owl time schedule. I'm on and about ingame and in character usually in the mornings or in the late evening. Primarilly she stays in and around Ul'dah, but if you can't catch a hold of her, send me a PM here and we can try to work something out. I lurk with the forum open about 80% of my time and will get back to you as soon as I'm able. If any questions rise up, post them on here or PM me. Thank you for your time and I hope to see you ingame!
3. I. Basic Info Characters:Yomi Aogane Primary character:Yomi Aogane. Wiki page link is always in my signature. Linkshells:N/A Primary RP linkshell:TEXT N/A [*] II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium Rp, I follow the lore as close as I can, but bend where I need to. As long as a concept is well explained and believable, I'll gladly roll with it. Views on RP combat and injuries: While I prefer not too fight much, I don't mind my character(s) getting injured, though I want to talk things through before going into serious territory. Views on IC romance: Taken, not interested. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Not looking for close family ties, though people from her past (other survivors and refugees perhaps) are welcomed. Views on lore: I'll go with the above again. Following the lore as a baseline, but bending it to a necessary degree if the concept/situation calls for it.The how is what matters. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I use the normal /say and /emote, maybe /tell for very personal ic secrets, though that more rarely. [*] III. Other Info Country:Europe Timezone:GMT+1 Contact info:PMs on here are preferred, I lurk around most of the time~ [*] [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
4. I press the button and timezones cease to exist so I can roleplay at more sensible times for moiself. Also there may or may not be MRP-style addons easilly accessible.
5. I was never interested in the final fantasy series before 14, and so long as it is not a simple form of upgrade of 14 I don't think I will care for it, besides the fact that it leeches ressources of 14.
6. Me and Silane are going to try to get one in 3.3. Will most likely become an ic lair for a wip character and generally spot for storylines. It will be great.
7. Thanks for everyone for the interest! Since my vacation is going to start next week and I have most stuff out of the way Toyo will be active around Thanalan much more on her own personal venture. If anyone wants to set up something just pm me here or find me ingame!
8. I was more going on a little rant on the argument in general, both of the two mentioned are quite large beasts to tackle in their own regard. I just personally would classify weaponized succor as one level more abhorrent than the ones mentioned. But well. I guess we just disagree, so I got nothing else to say on the matter, hope you have a good day.
9. Ones bad time can be anothers good time. Alright I will stop. And I atleast am someone who doesn't like the entire "why use x when you can use y". It takes a character with questionable morals to use magic that is considered "evil", and someone either dilusional or twisted to use something outright evil. But twisting the essence of what can be seen by nearly all as good? That takes a very special kind of dedication. The hardships in acchieving that endgoal are much higher than with anything else yes, and it is much less sensible for a reasonable person. However who is to say that the character in question is reasonable. And if everyone simply goes with the easy solution then things grow a lot less overall engaging if all that was played out was the safe and easy way, wouldn't you agree?
10. Well of course! That is part of the fun. Then again, would it not be considered atleast somewhat raided, for the lack of a better term, by a few hordes of adventurers? Considering that it has been accessible now and all of that. I could imagine that getting in and out would be harder.
11. I've been on Balmung for a few months now but havent sadly gotten much time to rp yet. So now that my schedule is lighting up I will finally throw myself out here: Imari is a shrine maiden hailing from Othard who now works as a freelance-monster hunter for a steady income to settle down somewhere. She is quite an odd type who is torn inbetween her selfish and greedy self and the altruistic-disciplined upbringing she has taken with her from her old home. She currently resides in and around Ul'dah and frequently stalks the adventurers' Guild for rumors or jobs and possible donations, even if she will deny the last part fervently! I am mainly looking for: (IC) Comrades: Whether to take down bigger opponents together, rest and boast about past victories or simply share time with, this section is quite broad. (Note, allowing her to drink any alcoholic beverage may not be too smart) Other exiles: To reminisce about the old times, lend aid if it is needed or finding old friends, a few somewhat longer arcs could be made from this. Feel free to PM if interested! Other Miqo'te: While Imari is a seeker Miqo'te, her parent from a young age was a Hyur, her upbringing vastly different from that of others of her race. A lot of interesting talks and conflicts could spark from this, so prodding the odd background is appreciated! Religious Characters/Magic users: Imari was raised with a religious view very different from the world she lives in now, many terms are still somewhat foreign to her, many gods she does not know or even acknowledge. Many fun times of intense theological debates (from the origin of aether to "My god could beat up your god") to be had! (OOC) Partners from the EU or US if they have time in the afternoon/early evenings, my timezone is GMT+1. I really am not too picky. Have a good day and I am looking forward to your responses! Update: I completely forgot that I had a draft for her character wiki still on my desktop. It is now uploaded after a bit of editing, feel free to check it out! https://wiki.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/pages/Imari_no_Toyo
12. So since my new character is going to dabble in old magics, I have run into a few terminology problems. 1. White magic v black magic: Black mages draw aether from Hydaelyn to fuel their spells, killing the land in the process. White magic draws from the Elementals, however since those are essentially the land around the caster as well, would the effects of excessive use of either art have the same effect on their surroundings? Also we know from the new Lost City HM that the amdapori managed to use succor not just to heal, but to harm (see Kuribu with her reversed Cure IV and Regen). Given the 1.0 Lore from Thaumaturges, would that mean that Black mages could use their technique to fuel stronger healing spells? 1.5 White magic v black magic casts/spells: Malicious White magic or Succor is possible as we have seen, however how could it best be portrayed? Given that atleast Regen seems to keep it's original look of a blue field, would it be less "flashy" than what a normal Black mage would use, being less destructive, while remaining harmful/lethal? 2. Elementals. They -are- nature, as already said in the thread. However me and Sil while discussing this had somewhat different opinions. One way of seeing it was that the Elementals resided in the shroud (talking about the big scary ones), but due to their strength they influence all of nature even far beyond the twelveswood, sort of like the roots of a tree. The other point of view being that the elementals are more decentralised, every tree or rock being a "mini-elemental". Any support on which of those is correct, or if both are wrong? 3. Succor=White magic? We know that the fae the scholars created were made to use Succor. However, is Succor merely a different term for White magic, or is there more to White magic than simply draining the Elementals for healing (or harming)?
13. So, I am quite hype after running the new lost city HM a few times. So many possibilities to flesh out a character utilizing succor without going through fifteen loops and making them aligned to good. Maybe I should make a thread on that..
14. Thank all of you for your replies (damn I am slow. Been thinking a lot.) From what I have been reading it seems that the trance could be used as an alternative way toward the actual egi-summoning (with a healthy dose of own imagination.) The reason the dreadwyrm trance is needed is because Bahamut is way too strong than that anyone could make an egi out of his essence. I believe the reason why the trance is so short, only for deathflare (which is of course still amazing, like any master spark-like spell), one could maybe see that as another limitation? The trance only able to be upheld for so short a time because of the strength of the original primal? If that were the case, it'd be possible to hold a trance for a "weaker" primal like Ifrit or the other pals for longer? I may be getting way too anime with this, but the idea of using a trance to add some nifty asthetic additions on the character for the duration of the trance (garuda wings anyone?). This then leads me to the one thing I have mainly been having gripes with. Since the base of a summoner is always the arcanist, one will always use arcanist spells. Normally not a problem, however the sheer myriad of possibilities is daunting. The decay/toxin/general DoT we see ingame are not really my characters style. I have been running in circles for the last couple of days about it, from ideas of using summoned swords as projectiles, Aether-bolts for the lack of a better term, more something graspable, decisive. I am less in the dark of what I could do, but more about what people would be willing to accept. And the last part, linking those two together would be the simple question of if such a trance could be shown by influencing the normal spells she casts (normal bolts of aether become fire-aspected or wind aspected, so on and so forth) I apologize if I made anyone cringe, been getting a little out of the ordinary by working on this. Thanks for reading and I am looking forward to any responses.
