  1. That's how this community is. Awesome, ain't it?
  2. Quoted for emphasis. Thou shalt not take on airs of self aggrandizement to pass judgement on others & alternative RP styles.
  3. There's nothing to verify in any form. It's mostly left up to perception and racism of characters in the game. We don't have a known lineage for Au Ra, although we know the other playable races all apparently had some common ancestor. (inb4 it was the Allags). They're not related to dragons or lizards. They have a "demon-like theme," but t here's nothing saying that they actually are demons. Or related to voidsent, which is more a genre than a specific race. I've dug around for days trying to find lore on Doma and Raen. It's pretty lean. From what I've read nothing in the game maker materials speaks of demonic or draconic heritige. However, it is implied that -some- Au Ra may -think- they have a noble dragonic bloodline (*cough cough, mine*), as the lore suggests while mentioning the gods of the Au Ra. I'm wagering that it's merely a societal belief and not necessarily a biological one, since the page goes on to say scholars refute the connection due to un-dragon like physical traits the Au Ra possess.
  4. I'm all of .. a week or two old on this game. But in my experience you get what you put into it. If you're feeling shy and stand silently in a corner, there's a chance no one will approach you. If you start emoting vividly about what you're doing, the chances of catching someone's interest are much higher. Even better is walking up and just talking to someone who's a 'statue' but claims to be an RPer in that little player bio bubble.
  5. That's a really nice resource! I don't know what I want to do yet, but it will certainly help me figure that out. You're the best Sounsyy.
  6. Looking for suggestions on where you'd possibly find a elezen noble house somewhat near locations where seeker clans are known to exist. Or am I overlooking an obvious answer - Ul'dah? >_>
  7. I was thinking the same based on the examples we already have in game. It might have added an element of story/rp and conflict source if they were treated the same as the actual historic period, but perhaps square wants a more modern styled family friendly game setting.
  8. Thank you for the answers! I've moved into a totally different subject in trying to read up on Raen and Doma... and finding very little out there. My primary question at the moment is wondering if Doma truly is similar to edo era Japan as has been suggested, how are women treated? Would it be like the rest of the FFXIV setting where they are allowed the same rights to own a business and prosper without the need of a male leader in the family? Or would it be more restricted such as it was for that period and region?
  9. How does death and the afterlife work for Eorzeans?
  10. Do you mean, Dalamud the moon, the loyal hound of Memphina? Then you just have to wander around a lot of areas (Thanalan Burning Rocks, La Noscea East near Castrum Marineris and especially the North Shroud). The scars of the fall of Dalamud are clearly visible. Huge and tall crystalized parts of corrupted aether spring out of the land everywhere a massive chunk of it fell. Gridania is said to have been the most impacted by the fall and the Elementals are extremely weakened from this as a result. The land is slowly healing, but there is a resurgence of all kind of tainted shit running around, twisted by all those corrupted aether seeping into the land (Fukushima style). If you go watch a bit about the Binding Coil of Bahamut raid series, you can see the pieces of the moon are still more or less intact and functional and run deeeeeep into the ground (more than thousand malms under). And somehow seem to have some kind of self sustaining/self repairing nano machinery that slowly pieces everything back together pretty organically. You can go from La Noscea to Northern Thanalan through there, as seen at the end of BCoB T5. The question might be... what is the source of all that corrupted aether? I would be tempted to say, it's from Bahamut itself... but... somehow I'm not especially satisfied with that answer. Yes, I meant Dalamud. I should'nt be writing forum posts so late after bedtime!
  11. I'm in search of detailed lore on what the pieces of Balmung do to the land around where they are found (specifically very large chunks). I went with this as a huge part of my miqo'te and her clan's story based entirely off watching the intro movie and wondering what happens to the land where the debris falls. Luckily (and ironically) for me, it seems much of the main story for a Gridania start-up... is my characters backstory minus a few details. So anyroad, explain away in detail for a lore newb (spoilers okay).
  12. There are a few different forms of "summons" in FFXIV. I'll go a little bit into each one, which should help in looking for the right lore for the ones you're interested in! There are: Carbuncles - Aetherial beings summoned by Arcanists. The jewel and geometries used determine their skills and actions. Emerald Carbuncle, Topaz Carbuncle, Ruby, etc. They're basically a small split of the caster's aether and their autonomy is dependent on the caster. Primals - Typically what you'd see as the named summons in previous Final Fantasy games. Ifrit, Ramuh, Shiva, Garuda, Titan, Leviathan, etc. These are thoughts and ideas given form. Typically, they're the god of a Beast Tribe and are worshipped. They're fully aetherial beings as well, but unlike a carbuncle, there is no single caster. They are summoned with crystals and faith/prayer and once being brought into being, seek out aether and followers to maintain their forms. Eikons - Garlean term for Primals taken from the Allags. There are however, Elder Primals (also called Eikons) who may or may not have ever been summoned to begin with. Little is known about them. Primal-Egi - The essence of a primal given form by a single caster using the Allagan summoning arts. In order to summon the egi of a primal, the caster needs to have been "washed over" with their essence in order to give it form. Unlike Primals, they carry no will of their own and like carbuncles, are only as autonomous as the caster allows. Faeries - An artificial Scholar companion used to give the Scholar access to Succor (healing magic used by the Elementals). We currently know of the Eos and Selene stances, but there could be more. Excellent answer, thanks.
  13. Awesome! We have some members of the Tower who are really solid teachers (Armantiel, Clalaris, and Kerin come to mind; L'yhta is... a bit unique ). Feel free to give any of us a poke to set up a scene. Thanks! I'm in EST if that helps.
  14. This group sounds right up my alley. All my characters are magic classes, if that says anything. I know next to nothing about magic in this setting, so I'm drawing on my DND/FR understanding of it for now. Would be interested in an IC apprenticeship RP to learn more and help develop my RP in this area.
  15. The theme of this group sounds perfect for my main. I can't make any promises to adhere to meeting times due to my work, but I am interested in the RP if you're looking for new members.

I'll check it out! I'm pretty good at fending off the kinds of RP I'm not looking for at the moment, so the ERP seekers don't scare me.
