Curses exist in lore, yes. They're usually a part of Thaumaturgy proper, but you could probably spin something similar with the other disciplines of magic as well. Curses can be clensed though, so a good thing to ask yourself is why she didn't seek professional help with hers, or if she did, why it remains.

How to get RP on an anti-social character?
GentleGiraffe replied to Kieran's topic in Character Workshop
Adding to what Gegenji said, you can try and come up with situations where your character is forced to interact with others. Maybe he accidentaly bumps on someone and breaks something valuable, maybe he's injured, maybe he's selling something. And emoting. Emoting is very important if you have a non-verbal character. By showing through mannerisms and expressions what your character feels and thinks you can get people interested without having to necessarily break out of character. Getting to know other people can be daunting even to social and easy going characters but don't give up! -

A small update: Yvain has recently taken up the alchemical research of his grandfather. If you're a disciple of land/hand selling materials, an alchemist wanting to talk shop, or just a potential client who wishes to look at his (non-lethal and often very experimental) items, I'll be happy to set something up :tonberry: -
I don't think any race is inherently more criminally aligned than others in the lore. That said! Duskwight Elezen: thanks to the persecution they suffer in Gridanian territory (and any other Woodwild-dominated territory, with Ishgard being something apart) many Duskwight turn to banditry. Ala Mighan: They are treated very poorly in Ul'dah, a city where your monetary wealth is valued above everything. A refugee could easily become a criminal in order to try and alliviate the poverty and suffering they live under. And any character coming from Limsa Lominsa and its surroundings can have a pirate/criminal background really.

discussion Character Creation: Opinions?
GentleGiraffe replied to Amnesic's topic in Character Workshop
Thanks for the reply; I have already realized in hindsight that this format is not going to work terribly well on its own. I have been working on a better and more clear summary for this, and it's almost done, but I currently don't have access to it. On the terms the style, that's one of the things I needed to get a check on. I'm not exactly too well versed in all of the lore, general aristocracy of the world being one of my weaker places. I mostly went off of what I can remember seeing in Ul'dah, so I'll definitely have to fix that part. Ul'dah is a city of merchants and thaumaturges, descended from the mage city of Belah'dia, so you'll find a lot more desert clothes and mage robes in its pasts thn clean-cut suits. There's nothing stopping your character from wearing them though, seeing that they exist and appear in several quests and NPCs. -

I think it would be easier to judge if you told us about the character from your perspective as a writer, not through the biased reports of a high-society news write-up. If you want us to give you suggestions regarding the lore and the like, we'll simply need more concrete information. Also, I'm not sure if "‘long and fair’ hairstyles as well as the clean cut suits" would really apply as an older style of fashion in any of the three main city-states, never mind Ul'dah. Ishgardian nobles still wear those, and from dungeon drops it seems Sharlayan fashion is heavily based on that as well, so I'm unsure to whose past his clothes are an allusion to. -
tbh I think at least some of the reason why we don't have mixed tournaments is that it's feasible for your average punchy mckicky to win round after round against other non-magickal martial artists, but things get a little blurrier when the opponent starts slinging fireballs and summoning egi and opening holes to the void but yes, I think as soon as SB is released and RDM is attainable we'll absolutely see mixed tournaments and duels. like you said we already have a sizeable fanbase of arcane knights kind of people that have been growing since the RDM announcement

Hey there. Balmung is usually full at all times, and when it's not, the bots usually fill in very quickly. As of right now, your only way to enter the server is probably by paying a transfer. That's U$18 if I'm not mistaken.

Using a different model in game vs roleplay
GentleGiraffe replied to Redrick's topic in RP Discussion
I don't see a problem with it. Wildwoods don't have the same shades of gray skin avaliable to them at the character creation, but the Duskwight's also offers a variety that ranges from pale to brown to lightly tanned, so I doubt anyone other than yourself would be really able to tell the difference in game. That said, unless you want to make a mystery out of it, I would advise putting on your bio that you're Duskwight. Supposedly other Elezen can tell the difference between the clans, but the skin/hairstyle options are so similar that as a player I would often mistake a Duskwight for a Wildwood even though my character wouldn't. -
-snip- It does help; thank you! I'll take this in mind while roleplaying my character.

The question came up because Leveva is not really just a regular Astrologian - she is the daughter of the man Sevestre killed and is following her father's footsteps, so there is an extra incentive for him to eliminate her, since she could potentially expose him and destroy his position in the Forum. Would that also be the case with other, regular Astrologians is what I would like to know.

I'm a little stuck. (Spoilers to the entirety of the AST questline abound) This is a little embarassing because I do roleplay a Sharlayan Astrologian but I need to admit I'm a little confused about the nature of the Forum's opinion with regards to teaching Sharlayan Astrology. We know the Vault did not want it to be taught, seeing it as a silly distraction from the much more useful prediction of dragon attacks, but what about the Sharlayan Forum? Leveva is currently in hinding, but is it because she taught Astromancy to non-Sharlayans, because of the business with her father's death, or a mix of both? Would an Astrologian who is not connected to her father be called back to the Old World for teaching Sharlayan Astromancy as well? I understand the answer may be "we don't know". But this is becoming more and more important for my RP and I'd like some info if anyone has it, as well as suggestions/theories that can tide me over until we get more info - if we do get more info, that is. Thanks a bunch! :tonberry:
