  1. I'd love to be apart of some of the shadier elements with everyone else. Not sure if there is any particular group or gang I should join. N'akocha is summed up in the following, Potent White Mage and Scholar on the surface, probably even part time professor at the Arcanist's guild, while engaging in a thief's life in the shadows. After writing out the premise of her story I found she is not unlike the character Gallus from Skyrim, the deceased Guild Master of the Thieves' Guild: A book-studied scholar and academic who found the thief's life to be more to their liking. Gallus even described as "feeling more in his element climbing through someone's window" than with his nose in musky books all day. N'akocha isn't that different. A studied scholar, accomplished white mage and healer. But being a professor and teaching coursing on scholarly and healing arts isn't exactly exciting. The thief's life is where that comes into play. Some aspects of her healer nature come into play which I find interesting. She'll avoid causing physical harm to anyone if she can, even make amends of some kind to any who are injured (healing, returning of stolen goods). She'd be under the alias "Mnemonic" as a thief. So yeah, if there are any groups willing to have a medical thief in their ranks, I'm interested. :3
  2. Being a nerd when it comes to magic I paid a lot of attention to the Thaumaturge and especially Conjurer dialogue, Freelance pretty much described it. Black magic is manipulation of the aether, or life force, inside you while Conjurery is defined by drawing power from the aether around you (more or less described as asking Nature to give you the power to do X). As Freelance mentioned, the case of the girl using Raise without formal training... Since she had no training or even attempted to practice asking the elements to grant her the power to heal, when she was healing people she unknowingly was sacrificing her own life-force and giving it to others. It really illiterates that the (conjurer) healing arts are asking nature to sacrifice a little bit of it's own collective life force to save an individual.
  3. You might know N'akocha Teh from... Gridania, The Conjurer's Guild - N'akocha could be spotted around the Conjurer's guild, often eager to do E-Sumi-Yan's bidding be the task grand or menial. Limsa Lominsa, Arcanist's Guild - Professor, Part-Time Teacher of new Scholars... or just browsing books. Her alias of "Mnemonic" and "Mist" might also be known here. Ul'Dah - On the rare occasion in Ul'Dah's streets, fulfilling her dream of being a Dancer/Songstress.
  4. Don't have a long post to go on about, all I really have to say is amazing Opening Post, regardless of what some voices have said. Yes, miqo'te are rational animals, just like humans and culture blah blah, but this is no less interesting to think about. Or at the very least, consider. +1 OP This is something I'll be meditating for hours on when considering a fleshed out back-story.
  5. I've watched a few different versions of the "all main cut-scenes" for FF14 1.0, as a references. Watched hours, read for hours soaking up the main story. But there is something I feel like I understand but at the same time, not sure if I really do (or at least don't understand to the degree it could be). Of course I am referring to the Echo and possibly thaumaturge/black-mage mind magic. I'm writing a character back story that involves these elements but I feel that if I don't understand the Echo and "the dark arts" properly, I'll just mess up the whole memory thing. Which is touchy enough without basing it on really vague lore. Also I previously seen inconsistency within the community on some things, especially as ARR rears its head. Question 1) I hear some saying new players also get the Echo in ARR. I saw a handful say no. Some say every player character is now a Warrior of Light, others say only Legacy characters are Warriors of Light. Would someone clarify for me which once and for all? Question 2) If the answer to #1, do new players get the echo, is YES... Then what is it like in ARR? I assume there is still the phantom aria singing, the "Hear, Think, Feel," but I assume the meteor shower vision has been replaced since... Dalamud and the meteors of fiery death have already come to pass now. If the awakening is different, can someone tell me what it is (for RP purposes)? I'm okay with light spoilers. Question 3) Really vague question. Just any tips I should know about how the echo works in greater detail. Like I don't know what was up with seemingly 90% of all memories explored through the echo are memories based in the same location you used the echo at. Question 4) The Dark Arts. Briefly in the Ul'Dah beginning story line there comes a point when F’lhammin asks you to secret find out if the thaumaturges know how to raise the dead. One of the guys there, curious why you want to learn how to do this just does some voodoo mind magic on you to learn F’lhammin sent you. Or so it seems like. There is also an instance of something similar in the Black Mage job quest line where he tells you he "manipulated the minds of a few thaumaturges of the order" into believing he committed a crime. Which not only implied they can access memories, but alter them as well. Can I get a confirm/deny on this? This isn't just me reading too much into it? ______________ I ask because I also can't seem to find any wiki pages on The Echo aside from glorified stubs and found NO articles on thaumaturgy allowing access to memories or the mind. ______________ Ref for Q4, F’lhammin sending you. 6. This gave me a giggle, so many moments like this as a healer with the tank running ahead and bulldozing face first into a pile of elite mobs when I had already said "Out of mana." And all I hear is "OMG Why aren't you healing me n00b, I died!" I solved the problem by just healing people I know: Guild members, friends, my brother or anyone else who I knew and knew me. Suddenly no more rushing tank problems. Funny enough, toxicity continued in a different form directed at my personal tanks now. So my tanks would stop when they saw me out of mana and let me drink my mana-water while a lot of the DPS players start screaming OMG TANK GO FASTERRRRR. FASTERRRRRR. And my tank has to constantly point out the obvious that I am still drinking and recovering. Or I even have to point it out too because they don't care what the tank says.
  7. Thank you for doing this! I love being able to peek at all those archer and bard abilities
  8. Interesting! I'm 22, never been good at academic writing. However I excelled at creative writing and reading comprehension. I never took a creative writing class before. Though, I love creative writing over academic since "artistic license" lets me get away with flaws in grammer. I prefer to speak Poetically without Penalty. I probably started role-playing around the age of 14, my boyfriend at the time encouraging me to try the World of Dork-craft MMO with him since it was all the rage at the time. WoW was... meh. Though the fantasy play and story telling time we had together was really fun! I didn't even know it was called role-play when I was doing it. Since then I've role-played on IMVU, Second Life, and a few other games... whatever the latest band of friends or current boyfriend dragged me into.
  9. I. Basic Info Primary character: Mist Linkshells: N/A Primary RP linkshell: N/A II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy. I have a fever! And the only cure is more R.P. Views on RP combat and injuries: I don't do death or killing of other players. I can live with suffering grievous injuries and being knocked into a state of temporary coma and permanent amnesia. But death is off limits. I don't want to have to level up a brand new character just because of an RP death. Views on IC romance: I'm fine with it so long as it makes sense. As mentioned in my introduction, any subject can make a good story if creativity and effort are put into it. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Of course! I'm okay with romance so why not everything else? Perhaps one of the most interesting RP family experiences I've had was role-playing a single mother who had to watch her son march off to join the military. Views on lore: I love Lore, I like immersion. I don't mind seeing people bend the rules of course, it's nice to see what people come up with. But as a personal preference my characters will stick to lore as much as possible. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Not sure what this means? I'm okay with whatever chat channel. III. 10. >"Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing? (Work, school, hobbies, etc)" Um, this is the second FF14 related forum I joined this week. My name is Naomi Konishi and I come from an Asian-American family. Friends just call me Nako, or Nomi. The first nickname came from a friend by putting the first two letters of my first and last name. The second nickname... I don't know where it came from. I'm an inspiring artist, hoping to become an internet artist of (small) renown some day. I'm going to college for art classes and working towards my bachelor's degree. My hobbies include Music, Poetry, Philosophy, Role-Play, and Math. Before you call me a nerd for enjoying math, I blame being Asian. Heeheehee. A couple of girlfriends and I are also developing a pen-and-paper role-play system called Imagino. Imagino is currently in alpha and is almost ready for public testing. There is just one more class to finish before we're ready. We're based in California and testing is likely to occur somewhere in Southern Cal. We haven't decided yet. A brief description of Imagino's setting is... Imagino is a virtual simulation enjoyed by the surviving members of a post-apocalyptic earth. Life in the real world just sucks, but every night when one sleeps, one can hook up to Imagino. There, one can experience a pre-apocalyptic earth that is shaped by people with strong imagination and stronger wills. In Imagino, creativity is the catalyst for harnessing extraordinary powers and abilities. /end shameless advertisement >"RP experience" >"What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, medium, or heavy?" I've been role-playing a few years, I really enjoy the activity. I fancy myself a heavy role-player. I enjoy all subjects of role-play; there really isn't anything off limits to me. I personally believe any subject of role-play can create a good story with enough creativity and development. >"How did you learn about the coalition?" >"Character ideas/info" I found it on accidentally, trying to look for what FF14 server would be the Role-Play server! I'm glad I stumbled across this site. :] Truth be told I know little about Final Fantasy as a whole, I've only played spin-offs like Crystal Chronicles. Aside from Crystal Chronicles, my knowledge of Final Fantasy is as follows: -Cloud is a dude. -Moogles are adorable. -Chocobos are giant chickens. I hope that as I role-play, I get to learn more about about the Final Fantasy franchise and maybe get into it beyond just spin-offs. In light of my lack of knowledge of FF's lore, my character Mist (from previous rps) is likely to be an amnesic... giving me an IC excuse to ask lots and lots of stupid questions and revel in awe at the world and it's history! :] Once I know enough about the lore I'll feel more comfortable writing a fully fleshed out FF story and committing to it.
  11. I had this question too after watching the trailer a few times! So 1.0 players were transported 5 years forward through time and the world seems fine. But where is the Dragon? Did he just get tired of blowing everything up after a few years and call it quits?
  12. So many amazing stories! Like many here my characters tend to have some aspect of myself in them. And lots of different characters over the years of role-playing. My signature character, Mist, had radically changed since her first conception. Originally she had a generic name like Anna Windtail. She was a character in a novel I was writing in my teen years and actually not the lead protagonist of the story despite envisioning her as myself. The lead protagonist was a character based off my ex-boyfriend and the time. I knew I wanted the story to be about redemption through the eyes of his character and a tale of rebirth, but I kept losing the pages I wrote and couldn't find them... so I had to keep rewriting sections over and over as I kept losing papers until I gave up. I am horribly disorganized. Anna started out simplistically, mainly just having the attributes of my loyalty and passionate disposition. Admittedly my character at this stage was more or less your average boring female protagonist who's role was to support the lead protagonist. As I moved on I enjoyed role playing in other mediums like IMVU and Second Life for good while, altering Anna into Sophitia Conway, a cyborg for a sci-fi roleplay. These special government weapons, these cyborgs, were once people who died and were resurrected through technological marvels. Machine halves were also installed into their consciousness to exert some control over the organic half of the mind while the organic half of the mind offered a realistic personality and logical that a machine could not replicate alone. The Government Project and it's creations became known as Deus Ex Machinas (God from the Machine), a poetic name for the government's intent and hubris of attempting to achieve god like powers and immortality through technology. Some DEMs overcame the machine half of their minds and briefly reprogrammed the others to follow them instead of the others, the now rogue unit of DEMs free from the government's control roaming the solar system according to their own agenda. Again my character played a secondary role, my NEWEST ex-boyfriend at the time was the leader of the DEMs in this role-play. I don't know, I guess I'm just good at playing a supportive lead. Sophitia took on even more of my personality traits; love of the classics, appreciation of fine culture, perhaps a little snobby at times. Then... later when I finally got around to using her again, Sophita became Victoria Palmacosta, a main character in a friend's upcoming novel series and pen-and-paper system; both called Imagino. Victoria in this incarnation remained mostly the same as as before, like me. But the idea of good was twisted into a near zealot idea of "Justice". On a DnD alignment box, she'd be annoyingly deep in the "True Good" box. Clarification: She was True Good before, now it was just obsessive and her vision became borderline black and white. Recently I revisited the idea of my own novel, expanding on it again as I intend to pick it back up. I fleshed out the world some more this time, expanded a lot more of the world's culture and religion. The world held 9 elements. The Lower Elements were made of Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. The Higher Elements were made from fusions of the Lower Elements; Steam came from fire and water, Dust came from earth and air, Mist came from air and water, and Ash came from fire and earth. The Heavens or the Divine made the ninth element. More characters were added to the Novel: a hero for each of the more common eight elements with the male lead based on my ex re-envisioned as the Hero of Ash. Also, every Hero, chosen by destiny to represent their element took their element as their name. Thus Victoria became Mist. In the world's lore... Steam came first, purging the void of darkness and it's daemons. Second came Dust, giving form and shaping the land. Mist came third, granting life and beauty upon the world. Lastly came Ash, marking death but also rebirth, a renewing cycle. The novel is still in progress. Though now I am very interested in FF14. Admittedly I don't know much about Final Fantasy as a whole still, I only played the spin-offs in the past like Crystal Chronicles. As I import Mist's personality into FF14, I'm likely to play her as an amnesic miqo'te, as much as a cop-out as it is. It'll give me a chance to both enjoy role-play while learning about the world in the process. It also makes it easy to take the character name "Mist" without breaking lore; Mist as a nickname. Her 'real' name could be X'sumbla Tahz or whatever a random name generator throws at me. Mist remains mistrusting of strangers but a loyal friend once its earned; a staple of people with blue colored auras. She still has enjoyment of culture, poetry, music, and likely will have a soft spot and weakness for Bard players... And she possess a dualistic personality; inspired by my birth sign, The Gemini. I have ideas for her back story but I don't want to commit to anything yet until I learn more about Final Fantasy in general. I'm looking forward to mingling with other RPers and learning the lore. :]
