  1. Welcome aboard Chiyo, Jace, and Kouen!
  2. That's great! I will definately look you up! Sounds like just the group of people that I am looking for! -cheers- Yay! I will definitely try and relay the message to A'bhen Nunh, who is the guildmaster of the FC and he would likely be online earlier than me. I have classes that run pretty late into the evening. I should be home around 8PM EST so look for me then if you haven't reached him yet.
  3. 1) What are thoughts on RP'ing different roles, races, genders etc?? I like to play them all, but not sure if there is a unwritten rule about how OOC relates to IC in the way of race and gender etc... Chose what makes you most comfortable as a writer, if you feel more at home playing a female then do so. And the same for playing a male. Choosing a race, I think, that depends moreso on which appeals to you more. I tend to chose races based on their supporting lore and whether or not I find it remotely interesting. The biggest rule in my book is that OOC should be kept separate from IC, always. 2) How strict is everyone about names and stories? I have a character "Grianne Ohmsford" that I created on Gilgamesh. Yes that is the same character out of the Shannara series (from much later in the novels), but I really like the character and want to build on it. This isn't a requirement, I can role a different one, but was just interested in the thoughts. I can not speak for the server as a whole, but my personal opinion is that names should stick close to lore. When naming conventions are given. And if they do not then there should be a well written reason (in that characters background) that would explain that. ICly Vali has been known to question Miqo'te with non tribal names. Usually they are city cats etc. Which makes sense. 3) Is it possible to just be casual about it? Like spend part of the time progressing (leveling) as well as role playing? Of course! I try and strike a healthy balance with it myself. I usually take certain days to do either though. Most of the time it's to RP lol. 4) Being a little new to this side of the gaming, is there a Free Company or group that can adopt a couple of my characters and help me develop them? I am always willing to assist with character development, I find it to be the most rewarding aspect of roleplaying. Depending on what you are looking for I would be glad to assist in whatever way I can. Or you can contact one of my guys from Ambrosia -points to Incubus- I run a linkshell that is attached to a Free Company, The Blackwater Company. That is your call entirely, find which suits you best. Drop a character on both. We are pretty active here on Gilgamesh so come on over and check us out. My in game name is Y'Vali S'vikhalsma.

Hm, you pose a good point about people not being able to get into the proper mindset to portray a "criminal mind" or villainous character. My main reason for playing the type of character I have created is because it is outside my comfort zone. I think of this way, I hate getting stuck in a routine of things. I'm an Aries so I am very spontaneous and like to shake things up with a little change every now and again. Typically I play the intellects, I prefer these types of characters because it forces me to constantly enhancing my working knowledge of the lore. I've often compared roleplaying to acting because to me it is very reminiscent of that. And reminds me of my fun times as a thespian. So "getting into character" for a role for example is much like creating an rp character. Stepping outside one's comfort zone is challenging but can also be very rewarding as well.
  5. Hey hey Anker! Now when you say nub....you mean to the game or rp? I would say to definitely reach out to Bhen in game. He tends to be online in the evenings during the weekdays due to work. His in game name is A'bhen Nunh. (Though I don't think he is online atm)

The problem with this is that people dont want to rally behind your cause or join a guild because they consider it to be evil when that is not always the case. And who is to say that a character would even know what it is they are being asked to transport. And again everyone keeps making reference to menacing characters when that is not all that I'm addressing when I say "bad" characters. Whatever happened to the guy who just wants some decent coin for doing some under the table dealing etc? Does it make him a bad guy? No not necessarily but it doesn't make him pure either.

I just need to clarify that I'm part of a Burlesque troupe and we are not baddies or "undesirable". In fact we're all quite good people ~~~~ As for me, I play three characters currently - One an extremely good person, one a neutral person, and one a bad person. My Garlean girl is currently only coming out to play for the Night Blades and the Grim Echo - I am unsure how the public would react to her so I have kept her hidden. The Night Blades themselves (And the Grim Echo) have a "Victory by any means" slant, making them very dark. We exist, but we try to keep on the down low sometimes because the general public is hard to gauge. I don't believe I said being apart of a Burlesque group makes you a baddie. But my Vali is no Angel.

My question is about more than just villains. Take for example the type of character my Y'Vali is. On the outside looking in, one can see she is the head Mistress of a Burlesque Club. The number of people who have written her off as "uninteresting" (without even rping with me) is truly astonishing to me. I am a writer, been doing that far longer than I've been roleplaying. When I create a character for roleplay I challenge myself to do something I've not done before. Back when I did theater that was apart of the fun! Playing a character that was nothing like me, one who morals I would question. The best part for me is pulling it off and seeing my friends and family's faces at the end of the show. My Vali may come of as calm but that is the facade she puts on, after all she has a business to run. But she is in no way a good girl.

And I think this is the thing most people tend to forget when the talk of baddies come about. Cunning evil.

Oh I know that, but I don't see any potential RP coming from it from his perspective. Like I always say, to each his/her own.

Pants? Hmph! I wear skirts sir! Or ma'am...for that matter. There is always room for such things. I feel like they can only add to a story. *Amused* My character frequents such places but frankly I have no intention of RP'ing it. So...what are you refering to? There is more than on thing that can happen in a burlesque lounge.
  12. I think you will do fine, only way to know is to try. Good luck!

Come out baddies. Come out and play! My character is the Head Mistress of a burlesque lounge for crying out loud. I had half expected more "undesireables" to show up than what I've seen so far. Oh well a girl can dream I suppose.

Well I must say I very much appreciate all the feedback given, and server doesnt really matter as Im curious to see what the demogrpahic is like on the other servers were roleplayers are present. While I enjoy the aspect of peace and harmony, I do wish there was at least the tiniest bit of conflict. And as someone with a "less than favorable" character I have found many people are turned off by the idea of even interacting with my character. Which tends to upset me more than it should. I feel that those types of assumptions keep people from engaging with one another. Thus segregating the rp community. Which also it's not like my character walks around telling the world that she is works/has worked as a courtesan. She gladly tells everyone that she dances but it is annoying at times.

I have often posed this question on the OOC LS chats on Gilgamesh. And I've received several different answers as each individual has his/her own preference. And this of course is just my general observation and is in no way the views of the server, or any group I am affiliated with as a whole. Observation 1: There seems to be a lack of "less than favorable" characters. With that being said allow me to elaborate because it seems the common misconception is that I mean murders or assassins and the like. When that is simply not the case. One can be a criminal, for lack of a better term, with a winning personality and what he or she considers to be a heart of gold. And not have the desire to slaughter everyone they meet. Observation 2: There is no shortage of white knights. Now when I say white knights I mean that and so much more. Yes, yes that strapping fellow come to save the damsel in distress. But then I suppose i could always say the quintessential goody two shoes that you have the chance to interact with. I titled this balance for one simple reason, there needs to be more of it. So I would like to pose some questions to the community as a whole. -What is the hesitation with playing a criminal mind, or any "baddy" for that matter? -Are there any with characters like the one described in the second observation? If so what inspired you to go that route as opposed to the other? -Are there any with characters like the one described in the first observation? If so what inspired you to go that route as opposed to the other? -Do you agree or disagree that there needs to be some sort of balance struck?
  16. Seems to be the norm around here sadly, but to each his/her own. Best of luck to you!
  17. For those auditioning to be a dancer, bring it! Vali is a tough one to impress. Here is a little inspiration~ CdUzUdaC8tI And if you do well enough you will have the opportunity to be on stage! FG7J9IN4iGs
  18. And im guessing thats a no to a BWC on Balmung, whelp, back to little Ala Mhigo to find some... "friends" Sadly nope not in the works.
  19. Haha I just edited my post at the same time as your question came up. I think he is judging from the Server listed under his name.
  20. Greetings, I am apart of an up and coming FC, known as The Blackwater Company with my linkshell (Ambrosia) under it's umbrella. As it stands out group is small though our content and story is not. My guild leader is A'bhen Nunh, his character heads up the Company. Brief Description from Abhen: Due the nature of the theme it is understood that there will be some mature content. If this even remotely interests you then I encourage you to reach out to A'bhen here or in game, though any messages here would likely be seen first. I do believe I have said enough for now, I look forward to hearing from you. EDIT: Silly me, you are looking on Balmung, correct?
  21. Lace girls and courtesans are two different positions. But I see what you mean.
  22. Dancers are in high demand currently so I would have to see I'd need that more than a guard at this point.
  23. Not really sure what type of character Judge is but here is the FC I'm involved with currently. Its called Blackwater Trading Company.
  24. Hello Mateo and welcome to our side of the internet where we have cookies and milk if you are good. I see we've dabbled in some of the same MMOs well a handful since I haven't been doing this nearly as long as you have. (Miss Rift, honestly) I do hope you are enjoying your time in the world of FF, ever want to rp then give a shout in one of the OOC chats. And if you need an invite to one I will send one your way as well.
