  1. These are all fantastic suggestions . One other thing I'm going to set up once I'm able is a "holodeck" in our FC house as a kind of experimental space for completely IC character interactions. If that goes well I'm going to try and get an apartment of some kind to serve as a designated location for RP if I establish a linkshell outside of my FC. Then again, RIP to my social life as my in game character is still new and has to grind GC to unlock things like housing, ugh.
  2. Ohh this is fun! Koichi's Favorite Location(s): - Limsa Lominsa, particularly in the early morning when the seas are shining with dawn light. - Costa del Sol, when he can afford to vacation/retire there. My favorite location: The Forgotten Knight in the city of Ishgard .
  3. One thing I have noticed over the course of playing several MMO's is that North Americans do not like to role-play or rather have no idea that role-play is even a possibility in these games. For those few of us that do know that RP can be done and done well in an MMO setting, it's disheartening when you try to get something going only to realize that all of the servers and free companies etc. are all inaccessible to you. Despite this, I notice that when I'm on my RP specific character and do a mild form of half in character half out of character RP in small settings like duty finder, people seem to really enjoy it (and for some inexplicable reason I get commendations where is I don't on my main). So the enjoyment and want for RP is there but people just have no clue how to go about it. What tips tricks and suggestions do you have for people like me who are on non-RP servers that want to either start Something up or just create a small link shell to get the RP spirit going?
  4. This wonderful piece of Fan-made music https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=MnopEHHoLmQ If you can't access the link it USC "Hopes And Dreams" by String Player Gamer
  5. Koichi has only taken one sip of ale... He was with his party at a tavern, right after a highly lucrative job. He'd finally gotten up the nerve to tell his beloved Roegadyn gal how he felt about her. He took a sip from his mug, but as her older her, she burst out -- red-faced, laughing. "Ah, Koi you're hilarious; you need to lay off the beer!" And so, Koichi never touched alchohol ever again...
  6. For Koichi: 1.What do your characters believe that you know, OOC, to be fundamentally incorrect about the setting? That Eorzea is chaos and that true culture and an ideal society was wiped off the map when Doma was destroyed. He was very sheltered and only just met his first hyur, despite many living in his home city-state, at the age of 10. He is still getting over prejudices regarding all non-Raen Au Ra but still thinks Zaela are naturally stronger and less intelligent. He also thinks all Ishgardians are butchers and is wary of Elizen in general. Living in Limsa Lominsa has helped change his world-view but not completely. 2.How do you address people trying to "correct" your character about these misconceptions, especially if it's very important to your character concept? And how often does it happen? Just like anyone who uses experiences or prejudices based on caricatures as thier truth, Koichi would likely double-down and attempt to use logic to justify his opinions. He isn't generally hateful towards other races but his lack of experience with non-Raen coupled with the sheer culture shock of having to move to Limsa Lominsa helped foster wrong opinions.
  7. Koichi -- his family dies in a fire, becomes everyone's "dragon-mom"
  8. Done and done! I made it pretty open ended so hopefully peeps will get creative and have fun with it.
  9. Hey all, So my main server is Exodus, as that is where all my IRL friends who recruited me play and where my main is. I am creating my RP-specific character soon and will likely stay on Exodus, which seems to be an RP deadzone. Is anyone else on this server and would like to set up RP events or a linkshell?
  10. Chocobones (comedy, open) ~~~ The salty sea air and the sound of waves did little to calm the excitement rising in the white mage's chest. Today, on one of the Au Ra's few days of leisure, would be his greatest triumph; his most sought-after prize was just within his pale-scaled grasp, right after he scratched around in his gil purse one final time to ensure the listed sum was still there. A small smile came to his cheery face as he felt the the warm and slightly-moistened coins were still at his fingertips. The Market row in his new home city of Limsa Lominsa was quite, as was typically quiet so soon after sunrise. The merchants were milling about, preparing for the day and the usual vendors bid him "hello" -- even if it was through a yawn. "Mornin', Ko -- where you off to this blasted early look so keen and casual?" one of the vendors remarked, catching sight of the usually tight-laced and uniformed white mage known as Koichi Shimizu in a light blue tunic and trousersw. "Good Morning! I'm off to finally, with a bit of luck, find that "thing" I told you about last week," his voice cracked a little as he replied, not pausing to control his now flicking tail. If some wandering stranger mistook him for a scaled Miquo'te, he hardly seemed to care. He walked over to the vendor and pulled a piece of paper from his tunic pocket to check the address again. "Jangle's Junk-Trunk..." "Oh that place....you're after some chocobo doll again, ain't ya--" "Shuushh -- Not so loud!" Koichi, hissed as he motioned to the vendor to keep her voice down. "What? It's nothing to be ashamed of, I used to love collecting dolls as a little girl," she winked with a mischievous smile. Koichi's smile turned into a defiant smirk as he crossed his arms with a flick of his tail. "Ha-- you're not getting to me today, ma'am! Besides, I'm more worried about someone else coming in and taking the beautiful work of art out from under me. Now, if you'll excuse me," Koichi made a dramatic bow before turning quickly to the sound of amused laughter at his back. Koichi looked to the small bit of paper in his fingers once more, shining sapphire-like eyes scanning the address for the countless time as he made his way to the back alleys of Limsa Lominsa. Upon arrival, he felt his excitement swell to border-line anxiety as he took a deep breath and opened the dusty and sea-bitten door. It was if he'd set off some kind of dust storm as the swirling air caused him to cough and sputter. A small, rusty bell over the door gave a half-hearted ring as he crossed the threshold, alerting the shop keep to his presence. The older Roegadyn grunted a welcome as the slightly shaking Raen passed over isles and isle of tempting but dusty curiosities and approached the counter. "How c'n I help yeh?" the shop keep mumbled with a wet cough as he pushed a hanging display out of his field of vision to rest his tired eyes on his customer. "Good morning, I came to see if you still had the off-color, small batch "Lady-in-Lace" barding, signature edition 'My Little Chocobo' figure?" Koichi asked as he held up the listing he had hastily clawed off the market board with a slightly trembling grip. The store keep moved to take the listing and disinterestedly looked it over with a snort. "Let me look in t'back," he gave a small grunt as he got up from his leaning spot at the counter and proceeded to head into the back room. Koichi leaned against the counter, tail flicking back and forth with zeal, nearly knocking a small wooden nick-knack from it's place on a display. He quickly moved to save the little trinket -- putting back in it's dust-covered shelf before catching a small glimmer through the mess of old shoes and wooden toys. Though it was just as grime-covered as any of the other items in the shop the jeweled object captivated his sapphire eyes and seemed to pull him in close. He picked up the item, a heavy vase of some sort in his nearsighted vision, and began rubbing the dust and dirt with his hand. The more he attempted to clean it, the warmer it became. He assumed the vibrations he sensed were just his excised trembling, and not from the item itself. His eyes sparkled with joy and excitement as a relief of a golden chocobo with a ruby for an eye came into his vision. He feverishly rubbed and cleaned, nearly dropping the vase in the process, revealing five golden chocobos, each with a different precious gem for an eye. He did notice that the 5th chocobo, the one with a sapphire for an eye, had a crack running along it's body where it was affixed to the vase. Suddenly, a loud crash and a muffled curse came from the back room, sending what felt like a bolt of lightning through Koichi's spine and chest. In his surprise and momentary shock, the vase seemed to slip through his fingers, and unlike the wooden toy, hit the ground with a terrible crack. The thoughts of fear, sorrow, and disappointment flooded through his mind as knowledge of the gems alone caused him to lament how he was going to pay for the now pieces of fine art and what looked like ash and bone shards at his feet. The sounds brought hurried and heavy footsteps from the back as Koichi turned to see a look of horror in the shop-keep's face. As he started to apologize and vow to pay for the ruined art, Koichi mistook the look of awe and horror in the shop keep's face for anger, not noticing the sinister black clouds billowing behind him. The gaseous forms began to quickly take shape is four sets of what looked like burning eyes fixated on the shop keep. The red-eyed cloud, which looked like a great bird's shadow seemed to give a mischievous smile with its gaze to the shop keep before turning to the green, yellow, and violet-eyed spirits. Just as Koichi turned to see what the shop keep was sputtering and shouting about, the four shadows burst about the shop, swirling around like angry winds, knocking things to the floor and picking up other items in a curio tornado. Koinchi dropped to the ground and covered his head as the four shadows burst from the windows and door, escaping into the unsuspecting city...
  11. Aww thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm really liking what I'm seeing here so far, and I might try and start an open story thread to get my feet wet and to get to know some folks.

Sleep habits:the most expensive items in the home are two beds in his bedroom and Haruame/guest room. He needs at least 8 hours to remain sane. BACKSTORY: Koichi had a very complicated childhood. Both loved and loathed, both a spot of joy and stain on his fledgling family. The Shimizu were an up-and-coming family in Raen society, after his father, Umiuzu's many acts of heroism, strength and a skilled political career. However, despite this rise -- Umiuzu made a great many sacrifices to attain said prestige resulting in a loveless marriage of convenience and subsequent affair with a low-born love. Though Koichi was his second and illegitimate son, Umiuzu gave his beloved child an honorable name and even the family name as the best act of love he could bestow. This caused an uproar and scandal, which he quickly quelled as founder and patriarch; Koichi never knew of this and was raised as a legitimate son while his birth mother was moved to Eorzea for her own safety. His childhood was happy but isolated, only ever knowing the direct care and love of servants and the occasional visitation from his father or brother. He was confined to his room most of his early life, thinking it was because of "illness" and for his "safety" rather than keeping his father's "shame" hidden from his political adversaries. Koichi believed in the blind idealism about his family's honorable and grand status until his 16th birthday, when his home was set ablaze by his father's enemies and all but he and the two servants who were involved in the act were killed. During the investigation of the incident, many of his family's dirty dealings came to light, severely affecting the already traumatized youth. However, the most severe blow to his world came when one of his father's few friends among the noble families allowed him to live at his estate until he was able to get recompense for his family's murder and black on his feet. There he learned about his brother's true nature: at best a Lothario and at worst a remorseless predator who took what he could from a woman and left the rest to the wind. The elder sister of the family had been romanced and dumped by his brother resulting in her and her daughter's own shunning and confinement. The proof of this claim was in the young girl's eyes, which matched his own distinct sapphire vision. She hadn't even given the child, who was already 3 years old, a name., only referring to her as "the girl" Koichi, having lost everything both material and familial, made a vow to not only restore his family's honor but to give "the girl" not only a proper name but his own family name. It took 3 long years until his family's murder case was tried (only the two servants were proven to be involved and were punished) and Koichi and his niece, whom he named Haruame, both had the means and the ability to leave the estate. Rather than vowing revenge, the uncle and niece moved into the lush forests of Gridania to start over, just as their beloved city-state had been thrown into war and put to the torch by the Garlean Empire. There, with the help of some kind neighbors and business contacts, Koichi was able to formally study as a conjurer -- eventually traveling to Limsa Lominsa to attain his preferred occupation as a white mage. When Haruame came of age and showed great potential as an Archanist, Koichi picked up the tiny family and moved them to Limsa Lominsa so he could be nearby while she studied. Ever since, Koichi's priority has been to get odd jobs to help his niece attain her own dream of becoming a Summoner like her grandfather.
  13. Hello All, As I busy myself with reading the RP style guides and such, I thought it would be fun to give an out of character introduction as well as an in-character one. Most people on the internet know me as "Ori" (my main in game is Orifielle Cerfblanc on Exodus server, if you'd like to chat sometime in game or dungeon crawl) and I've been an online forum junkie for a few decades now, however I fell out of it in about 2007 when the bbs I was on closed (super sadface). I'm very happy to have found this place and I look forward to some fun story telling and RP. . As for my other hobbies I draw, crochet, play other video games and spend time with my favorite real life people. If you have any questions for me (or my character; see below ) please feel free to ask! Lots of love, - Ori ~~~ "Hello? Please could you wait a moment, It's been ages since I've visited and, to my dismay I'm a bit lost. These decks and plank paths have always gotten me turned around. I need to get to... What? Yes they're real -- and the tail is too. What an odd thing to say to a man -- No I most certainly did NOT drink dragon's blood, nor am I some manner of chimera. Surely you've seen others of my kind about? ... My name? You can call me Koichi. Listen, I'd love to stay and chat but I've got somewhere to be; please, could you tell me where I might find this city's Archaist's guild? Have business there and I can't be late... What do you mean what does a white mage want at the archaist guild? That is surely none of your business, but I'll have you know that my niece is receiving an important honor today and I mustn't be late! So please, please -- if you could just... ... Ah of course, I completely forgot about that short cut; that is extremely helpful -- thank you very much, uh -- your name was? ... Thank you again. I'll be on my way but should you linger in town, I'll be taking my niece for a celebratory luncheon after her award ceremony, if you'd like to join us. The first drink will be on me -- I've got to run! Have a grace-filled day!"
