Reiry Posted August 9, 2012 Share #26 Posted August 9, 2012 I don't really see Reiry at all fitting into the epic hero frozen in time to save the future model. So ideally I would like to re-write her history to match 2.0 changes and modify the name somewhat. Which is where it gets problematic... because it's unclear if we'll get name changes for 2.0 so I feel awkward rping a character that will technically be a completely different (prolly not even born yet) person but have the same name/personality in 2.0. Innes Posted August 23, 2012 Share #27 Posted August 23, 2012 Referencing one character background difference between 1.0 players and completely new 2.0 players, i believe the "bravest/strong sent in time" story belongs to all players experiencing 2.0. A new 2.0 player would also assume the role of "returning from being sent in time to forge the fate of Eorzea." Also, our new ingame beginning cutscenes for the characters could add some background as well; i dont believe there is info yet, stating whether there will be three multiple beginning cutscenes to choose from e.g. for each starting city state Uldah Limsa & Gridania, or one universal beginning ingame cutscene. Like many of you have said, theres much to tweak or play with, many scenarios. I personally like Riku's petrification story. As for my character, i havent put much at all into 1.0. Definitely looking to do much much more in a Realm Reborn. p.s. thumbs up for this active RP site. hope to join ya'll in the future official or unoffical FFXIV RP server. Link to comment
Reiry Posted August 24, 2012 Share #28 Posted August 24, 2012 Ugh, you mean everyone is going to be a legendary hero sent from the past to save future? I didn't really see anything in the videos that confirmed this... though it sounds very plausible for SE. Ah well... I guess there is no reason to hold off on rp if everyone is going to be a legendary hero. /sigh Link to comment

Lore-wise, if even new characters created after A.R.R launches are considered to be from "the past" or whatever 1.0 ends up being, that doesn't necessarily mean that every single person from the A.R.R era is from the past. Whether it's a new world and there's a different version of Eorzeans living there, or it's the future and it's the descendants of people from the past Eorzea.. I highly doubt everyone living in 2.0 will have come from the past. Which, in that case, roleplayers would be more than able to simply say there character has lived in the 2.0 world since they were born, and did not come from the past. Link to comment

I'm just not sure how much I want to swim against the current if all the new story/quests/content is built around every PC being sent from the past. Luckily... I have plenty of time to think it over. Aysun Posted August 27, 2012 Share #31 Posted August 27, 2012 I think that those who are held for timewarp will be basically all "adventurers", like those who have the Echo. There will be NPCs that are from that time period I'm sure, just like there are NPCs that don't have the Echo. But, just like now where all PC adventurers--us!--are afflicted with the Echo in-game, there are those who roleplay with it and and those who chose to not have their character have it. I just wish we knew how long it was going to be! I know some people want to age their characters instead of warping them, and others who want to start new ones (non-warped). But without the period of time, it's hard for anyone to make any choices.. Link to comment
Eva Posted August 27, 2012 Share #32 Posted August 27, 2012 Has anyone asked on the official forums? If a thread were created and a link posted here I'm pretty sure it would gain a lot of support. Kind of like the thread Oskar made inquiring about lore, or asking about the RP-friendly server. I would actually do it right now myself, but I recently cleared cookies and I don't have my token with me here at work. If a link was posted I'm pretty sure it would gain traction not just from RPers but other players as well, who were curious about where the game's plotline is going to take us. If such a thread already exists, please link me and I'll definitely throw my own curiosity on the matter in there when I get home later. Link to comment
Aysun Posted September 5, 2012 Share #33 Posted September 5, 2012 Interesting: According to Camate, Community Rep, on the Lodestone forums. As you all have been mentioning and speculating (and it was also mentioned during a previous Producer Letter Live!), everyone that is currently playing will have something visible on their characters to show they experienced and fought through the events taking place. We are planning to make this proof something on your body and in case you are not too keen on having this engraved/tattooed on your character, we will be adding an ON/OFF display feature. I wonder what itâs going to be! Hmm~ I'm kinda curious since I'm opting to let w/e SE decides happen to Aysun. I bet it's that funny little tattoo that NPCs like Thancred share. Link to comment
Gospel Gestalt Posted September 5, 2012 Share #34 Posted September 5, 2012 I'm still up in the air about it all. I'll probably just retcon my characters age by a few years and just role with whatever S/E decides to do. I'm not against other people doing a time warp thing but I'm personally am a tad against it for myself. (Not saying that I wont consider it.) I just really feel like 5 years is an awful long time to be out of the loop of things from an IC standpoint. I know I have beaten the dead horse with it already but seriously, Austin Powers is all that comes to mind when I hear mention of the time warp. I would almost feel better saying that if you want to run away, you're better off just jumping on a boat and coming back when the war has died down and go from there. If it's an issue about preserving the characters age? I don't think people would get too mad if some folks wanted to retcon and change that abit. We were dealt some puzzling cards here by S/E. I'm pretty curious to hear how people are going to handle this so I may have an easier time making my own decision. Link to comment
Aysun Posted September 5, 2012 Share #35 Posted September 5, 2012 I think the only reason I'm okay with it myself is that it doesn't look as hokey as what I think of when I think time travel. I totally understand people wanting to take the other route, but I figured since I already had bits of the storyline in Aysun's story (the Echo, for example), that I might as well go with this too! Eva Posted September 5, 2012 Share #36 Posted September 5, 2012 I don't think I'd mind another tattoo. Eva will certainly be going the "frozen in time" route. Link to comment
Moltove Posted September 7, 2012 Share #37 Posted September 7, 2012 My original idea of the suspended animation (or time travel, whatever it is) was more or less having a crystal or something assigned to you, and you hop in when it comes time. With that idea, Molt would have found someone with one, and killed them/distracted them, then hopped in for himself just before it sealed. But then I just saw the trailer, and realized that it was probably Lenny's doing, and the main hyur from all the trailers was, for a lack of a better term, teleported. When it comes to lore and 'heroic individuals', the rules HAVE to be bent for players- mainly because they're catering to thousands of players. this means that, yeah, the brave ones are actually quite a LOT of people, but at the same time lore in most other games usually gives you a feeling that you are alone in your task of awesomeness, or your guild (or a small number of guilds) is (are) the only ones who are affected by whatever strange, magical powers, and therefore everyone else in the world (NPC's and people lfg) are more or less pictured as stand-by population numbers. With the Echo timeline, FFXIV did a good job in making you realize that quite a few people have this ability, and you certainly are not alone. But the previous loner-mindset still stands. That being said, when this comes through it is certainly still our prerogative to decide what happens to US, and what matters is HOW and WHO is chosen to pass to 2.0 (and who stays and lives or dies). Lenny is amazing, but I doubt that he teleported EVERYONE on the battlefield; just the head honchos, main trailer party, and a "small selection" of us (which of course will be thousands, but realistically speaking, it's the mindset of your main party you went through the campaign with, assuming you had a normal rag-tag team of adventurers just like the main party in all the trailers). That may help, and it may not. But remember that 2.0 is supposed to be the game 1.0 was not. 2.0 essentially starts us off at a point where it's back to the Garleans pushing from the north, and SE needed to cover ass to not make it look like they pushed a reset button. I'm interested in what they're coming up with, but by no means hold high expectations regarding their cover-story. I will say that Molt didn't do much RP wise with the Immortal Flames, so if Lenny's magic focuses on specific people, then I'm stuck. If it's a matter of area, then it's about keeping Molt informed on what's going on, and being at the right place at the right time. But there's something holding Molt back, and he may just stay to see if he can find the two only people he has any ties to. if the time shift is 5 years, I'm ok with it. if it's 20, I want to know how the time travel/suspension affects age. To me this doesn't look like an alternate dimension (and trust me, I know all about that from EQ2), so I just hope it's one time-line. And if there's any gimmick of time travel, and going back and forth, or even alternate dimensions it's probably because they're interested in keeping 1.0 around (even though there will be no support for it). Innes Posted September 7, 2012 Share #38 Posted September 7, 2012 Personally, I think it will be extremely interesting to essentially have two different generations of Eorzeans in existence. Us, who have weathered the seventh umbral era's coming, and those players who join post 2.0 that have possibly lived in the future Eorzea their entire lives. It's going to add a very strong spin to almost everyone's background unless they choose to retcon their character to have been in the future Eorzea. Interesting: According to Camate, Community Rep, on the Lodestone forums. As you all have been mentioning and speculating (and it was also mentioned during a previous Producer Letter Live!), everyone that is currently playing will have something visible on their characters to show they experienced and fought through the events taking place.
