So, non-canon RP, yes?

I had made a generalized non-canon RP thread a little while back, but it's kind of dead now. On top of that, I still really don't have a feel for E'iri just yet, and with ARR's debut approaching in the coming months, I really want to get it down!

I wanted to see if anyone was up for another thread, or even just skype RP I guess. It's been a long time since I've RPed at all, so I'm fairly shaky. I also have a lot of social anxiety that I am trying to get over, so it's been a little intimidating to just jump into any of these recent RP events on skype and such, even with those of you that I've come to know really well. I won't lie, I'm still fairly terrified of all of you. 8D;

But uh. Yeah!

Here is his wiki: http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/wiki/index.php?title=E'iri_Rhea

From what I am told by most, it's pretty acceptable and a good starting point- his history, abilities, etc. I mean. So...y'know. I just want to learn how to RP all of this appropriately. His elemental communication thing, where exactly he's at in terms of conjuring, and just his personality overall.

So...kind of two birds and one stone. Want to RP to get a feel for him, and also help myself stop being such a little chicken shit, basically, lol.

Since it's non-canon, I don't really care what situation comes up, what the location is, or who he's with.

Thank you all for your time in reading this!

EDIT

It was suggested to me that it might be a good idea to make a group chat on Skype and just designate a time for RP everyday or something. But I don't know what general times are a good time for people.

I may avoid forum RP, since I'm a little more adjusted to that, and reeaaally need to adjust to a more real-time RP.

The only thing I might suggest altering in your profile, or adding as the case may be, is how you describe the Echo.

The Echo, at least how its been shown in the game, has to do with diving into the memories of another person, to put it in the simplest terms.  It's really sorta messy and hasn't been entirely explained yet as it stands in the game.  I believe, though, the Echo can lead to hearing singing (from the aether?) but who is singing and what it means I believe is currently unknown.  Someone else here may be able to clarify.

Members of the Conjurers guild, in general, can have the ability to communicate with the elementals and do much as you described (such as asking the elementals for permission to hunt, etc).  Basically, what I think you have written as abilities for the Echo, are really more abilities that are part of Conjury.  You can still have the Echo, but it would do different things than you are describing.

Thank you for pointing that out! That actually totally slipped my mind. I wanted him to commune with the elementals. I think my main intent with the Echo wasn't really to touch it much, since I know it's kind of a touchy case-by-case thing with people, since it's supposed to be some magic and rare thing, because you're "the hero" of the story. But then everyone is the hero...thing. I hope that made sense.

Thank you for reminding me about that. I'm going to alter it, now.

Well, hmm.  The Echo isn't limited to the adventurer in the plot.  It's mentioned in actual game dialogue that a lot of adventurers and so on have been wakening to the Echo.  The adventurer in the storyline does obtain it through the storyline, but the manner in which they obtain it really isn't well understood.  They just sorta 'get it,' much to their initial confusion.  It's unknown why the Echo selects who it does, or if there's really any selection taking place at all.  The point I'm trying to make though is that its supposed to be something that is a growing phenomenon, and that you wouldn't need to be the adventurer that the story revolves around in order to obtain the Echo.

Those that have it, tend to keep quiet about it because the in-game dialogue suggests that others who don't have it would be prejudice against them.  People tend to get a lil bothered when you do things like see into their memories.

I'd probably wait til A Realm Reborn though to talk much about the Echo.  It's possible that whatever Bahamut did ruined it.  It's currently speculation as to whether or not it'll still be around.  We know that the plot that was introduced with the Echo will be wrapped up in ARR, but whether we will still have the ability?  I dunno.  Remains to be seen.

Thanks for the info!  I don't know if I really have confidence in being able to RP out like..reliving people's memories. I'm not entirely sure why. It just seems like an odd position for me, and really touchy to other players on how it would go down. So I don't really fancy the idea in general, anyway, lol.

An uhhh, I probably should get on topic and stop derailing this and turning it into an Echo thread, lol.

I typically don't do much non-cannon RP, though if its to help someone get a feel for their character and overcome RP shyness, that's another thing.  :)  I'll try to show my head on Skype more and we can RP some random run-ins and whatnot.

I'm sorry that the non-canon RP story thread sort of ended. It didn't seem like it was taking any direction and the handful of RPers involved I think tend to be more reflective than proactive so it just sort of turned into chit-chat around the campfire - which is neat to a certain point but I suppose it isn't terribly exciting. It could probably be revitalized if you wanted, but I was sort of waiting for one of the others to jump in.

I personally tend to stay away from RP outside of the game and I usually shirk away from forum-based RP because a lot of times it sort of relies on a number of people posting at a certain frequency and when that doesn't happen... well... the story just kind of gets left dwindling, or never really gets off the ground. And people post at different speeds and some folks aren't able to post as often as others and get upset when things progress more quickly than they're able to keep up, and others get frustrated when it goes too slow. It's just easier in game, or I suppose along any sort of chat medium where the action is happening much more rapidly. I sort of broke from my usual practice because it looked interesting - and I suppose because I missed RP and your thread was advertised as non-canon. :)

Our own reason for [generally] avoiding most of the non-canon RP stuff that's ongoing right now is because we would like to meet a lot of the new characters and faces in-game rather than "unofficially" meet them and then later try to spin it as a new meeting again. We've also both been really busy with a number of other things/projects so I suppose even if the game was up we probably wouldn't have a lot of time for it anyway. The other reason I suppose is that it's just "practice RP" and doesn't really matter anyway since there are no results of the outcomes of any of it, and we'd also prefer to wait until things are on record again and all 'official-like'. :)

It's alright. I absolutely understand (both why non-canon is avoided and why the thread died).

It's kind of difficult- I am really in the same boat as the rest of you. I really, really want some canon RP where E'iri can finally meet some people. At the same rate, though, I don't know what the hell to do as far as 2.0 lore and setting goes (like the rest of you), not to mention how positively intimidated I am.

But, I really think the key to getting me more adjusted to everything is to just give a bit of non-canon a shot. Otherwise I think I'll be stuck on this little hump forever.

Don't be intimidated. (Easier said than done, I know, I'm still intimidated by RP quite often..) Once we get in game, it'll just happen. Maybe you're like me, and are more intimidated by planned RP sessions than spontaneous ones, and you'll be just fine in game? xD

I think I have trouble committing to non-canon mostly due to the fact that anything that happens I can't use for development. Non-canon really does help you get a feel for your character, but it's always sad when you're like 'THIS IS AWESOME but.. but.. shit, it's non-canon.'

I'm always willing to try though, to help ya feel settled. But.. since planned RP makes me nervous, if you ever want to RP, just tell me you want to/post at me, instead of asking. Hehe. x3

*waves* Ello!

Well truth be told I am more of a forum RPer for all genres, (as that's actually where i come from...buuutt)  I have sorta kinda got interested in FFXIV by friends... so I am sorta new at this too!

Any anyways..point is..I am a huge fan of non-canon RP or the casual,"Oh hey! Lets toss two characters in a thread and see what happens." And if it wants to be deemed canon a the end so be it!

So i suppose if your interested I am all for AIM/YIM/Skype or even threaded RP. :)
