Eliane Dufresne Posted May 25, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 25, 2016 Calling all champions of Eorzea! To be held this 23rd and 25th Sun of the Third Umbral Moon (Friday, June 24th and Sunday, June 26th starting at 7 PM EST.), at Camp Dragonhead and the Gates of Judgement, a Grand Tournament for masters of all artes and disciplines, in celebration of Eorzean unity and prosperity. Entry is open to all who would prove themselves worthy of the Fury’s favour, with a ball to follow celebrating the winners hosted in the gardens of House Pepin on (July 9th at 7PM EST, at the Sanctum of the Twelve). Proceeds from attendance will go toward reconstruction and relief efforts in Ishgard. Please arrive early and express your interest to the officials if you wish to compete. ========================================================= OOC: It’s this week, everyone! The Dufresne Bellworks will be hosting a good old medieval-style tournament here on Balmung! There will be four events and four champions: -Chocobo Jousting/Champion of the Lance -Martial Duels/Champion of the Blade -Wizard Duels/Champion of the Wand -Marksmanship/Champion of the Range The tournament will be split over two days, with the Marksman/Wizard events on the 24th, and the Martial Tournament/Joust on the 26th. A competitor may compete in multiple events if they wish and, at the end of all four, all four champions will square off in a final melee to decide the Grand Champion. The Grand Champion will receive extra prizes and additional honors! ========================================================= FAQ and Rules: What is the Grand Tournament? The Grand Tournament is a traditional medieval-style tournament hosted by House Dufrense of Ishgard. The tournament seeks to promote unity in the Eorzean Alliance and to honor Halone by pitting the realm’s best warriors against one another in search of a Grand Champion. The IC proceeds from tournament registry and attendance will go toward reconstruction and relief efforts in Ishgard. Is the tournament for Ishgardians only? Nope! Everyone is welcome to either compete or spectate! Come show us poncy elves how it’s done, or hang in the crowd and cheer on your friends! Where is the tournament being held? We will be gathering in the courtyard of Camp Dragonhead and afterwards spreading out for the events. How do I enter? Simply show up the day of the event you wish to sign up for and join the contestants’ line in the courtyard of Camp Dragonhead. A Dufresne Bellworks representative will be going down the line taking names and adding you to the contestants’ list. When you are officially registered, you will be given a carnation. We encourage you to pick someone out of the crowd during the competition to crown as your Prince(ss) of Love and Beauty and pass them this carnation as your personal favor! We will be closing registration 10 minutes prior to the start of the event, so if you are not in line by then, you will not be able to compete. If you do not have a carnation in your inventory, you probably haven’t been recorded, so best to double check with us ahead of time! What do I get if I win? Champion of the Blade (melee): Falconer’s Shirt & Stuffed Mandragora Queen Champion of the Wand (wizard): High House Justaucorps OR High House Bustle Champion of the Range (marksman): Clockwork Barrow & Alpine Supper Set Champion of the Lance (joust): Orthodox Barding & High House Supper Set Grand Champion: “Heroes” Orchestrion Roll Plus the love, adoration, and envy of your peers, as well as excessive bragging rights! Is there any event etiquette I need to follow? If there is a large turnout, please keep all emotes and dialogue to /emote and /say, or to party/FC chat, to help cut down on potential spam. Please do not use /yell, as this will be utilized by event organizers, officials, arbiters, and heralds in order to communicate with everyone. ICly this event will be attended by both knights and inquisitors, so it’s probably not a good idea to cause any IC trouble or to bring any forbidden artes with you! Please note that, as we cannot and will not monitor attendees’ RP, it is best to consider this event as happening post-patch 3.3. If you are wary of spoilers, it’s probably not a good idea to attend! Rules of the Tournament: This is the basic TLDR version; a more detailed description is forthcoming Melee/Champion of the Blade: -Contestants will be paired off to duel -Contestants will /roll for initiative. Higher roll goes first. -Contestants will take turns making attack and defense rolls. The attacker will roll to attack, and the defender will roll to defend. If the defense roll is higher, the attack misses, and the defender gets to attack instead. This will continue until one of the contestants has scored 3 hits against their opponent, exactly like the Grindstone. -Aether-users such as dragoons and paladins MAY use aether in their attacks (ex: circle of scorn, dragonfire dive), so long as it is linked to a melee attack. No pot-shots with Fire II from 20 yalms. -Dark Knights may channel aether so long as they are not using actual dark magic, as dark magic is currently outlawed in Ishgard. Use of dark magic will result in an immediate disqualification. -Contestants may wound each other but not mortally. -You may not, may not, MAY NOT kill an opponent under any circumstances, even if they’ve given you permission. Doing so will result in immediate removal from the tournament and banning from future tournaments. -Your character must speak with an Arbiter or an Arbiter’s Assistant to be healed in full before moving on to the next round of battle. Wounded contestants will not compete under any circumstances. Magic/Champion of the Wand: -Contestants will be shielded by a modified Protect spell. This spell will weather three hits and will absorb the worst of the magical damage, but not all of it. You can still get hurt just like the other tournament fighters! -Contestants will be paired off to duel -Contestants will /roll for initiative. Higher roll goes first. -Contestants will take turns making attack and defense rolls. The attacker will roll to attack, and the defender will roll to defend. If the defense roll is higher, the attack misses, and the defender gets to attack instead. This will continue until one of the contestants has scored 3 hits against their opponent, exactly like the Runestone. -Summoner-types who fight using a summon will share a health pool with their summon. If an attack kills the summon, it will count as a point scored against the summoner. This is only nullified if the summoner recalls/banishes the summon before it can be killed. -Because the dark artes are outlawed in Ishgard, dark/void magic and anything akin to it is forbidden. Using forbidden magic will resort in immediate disqualification. Marksmanship/Champion of the Mark: -Shooters will line up and face imaginary targets -Each shooter will have 3 /rolls and 3 emote posts. (Posting for each shot is optional; you are welcome to combine them into one emote). Any roll under 100 is an automatic miss. Any roll of 999 is a bullseye and instant progression into the next round. -The three rolls will be tallied into a score for that round. Those with the highest rolls will progress to the next round. The lowest rolls will be removed from the lineup 2 at a time. This will continue until there are only 2 shooters left. -The final 2 shooters will square off against the same target, and whoever gets the highest score wins. If by some miracle both shooters score a bullseye, they will have to roll again. -You may not shoot anything other than the targets for any reason whatsoever. Even brandishing a bow or firearm at an event attendee will result in immediate disqualification. -Turrets and other such automata are not permitted. Jousting/Champion of the Lance: -Contestants must ride a chocobo and ONLY a chocobo. Other mounts, such as coeurls, fenrirs, and magitek reapers are not allowed. -Chocobos must be barded for their own safety. Riders must be armored for their own safety. -Opponents will be paired off and will run at each other from opposite ends of the Gates of Judgement. When they meet in the middle, they will pause to /roll before continuing to the other side. -A roll between 1-300 is a miss -A roll between 301-700 is a lance break -A roll between 701-900 is a staggering lance break. If one jouster rolls this, it will stagger their opponent and render their attack null if it would have otherwise hit. -A roll of 901+ is a de-horse and instant victory. -In the event that both jousters score the same category of rolls (ex: both roll a stagger), the one with the higher roll will be considered the one who hit first, and will get the point for that round. -The rider who gets 3 lance breaks FIRST, or a de-horse, wins and advances to the next round. -You may wound your opponent but not their chocobo. Wounding a chocobo will result in instant disqualification. -You may not, may not, MAY NOT kill an opponent or their chocobo under any circumstances, even if they’ve given you permission. Doing so will result in immediate removal from the tournament and banning from future tournaments. -Your character must speak with an Arbiter or an Arbiter’s Assistant to be healed in full before moving on to the next round of battle. Wounded contestants will not compete under any circumstances. If you have any questions or comments, or would like to volunteer, please contact Eliane Dufresne or Gwenneth Gilrouis (Reima Awen) for more details. We hope to see you there! 2 Link to comment
Accendie Posted May 26, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 26, 2016 This is a cool idea. BTW, you say it's at: at Camp Dragonhead and the Gates of Judgement. Um, where exactly do you want people to meet up? Inside the camp first then go to the gates or meet up at the gates? XY coords are a real bonus when it comes to stating a location for people to find an event. Sorry, just putting this in my calendar for people. Also you mentioned the ball. Do you have time/location for that yet or still TBD? Link to comment
Eliane Dufresne Posted May 26, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted May 26, 2016 All good questions! Sorry for not clarifying earlier. We'll meet at Camp Dragonhead to begin with and spread out from there so that there's (hopefully) not too much spam flying around. The Ball is still TBD because we might be pushing it back a week, so sadly no info on that quite yet. I'll post updates as soon as I know. Link to comment
Gwenneth Posted May 31, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 31, 2016 ========================================================= Hey, everyone! Some quick OOC tournament/ball updates from the Lady Dufresne! First of all, because it’s looking like we might have quite a large turnout, we’d like to search for a few more (minimum 4) provisional volunteers, two extras for each tournament on both days. More are super welcome, of course. In fact, more are encouraged! We might -not- need you if attendance remains cozy, but just in case, we’d like to have you on standby. Basically, we’re going to need assistants for the arbiters. It’s the same thing as with the Grindstone…there are assistant judges who split off to watch matches and tell the official judges about the outcome. While the Arbiters will be running each match respectively, having assistants will help them to keep up with potential chatscroll hell and will help prevent them from having to split their attention too many ways. Your character doesn’t need to ICly be well versed in whatever’s going on (magic, jousting, etc) – all you have to do is watch a few matches, wait for a winner to emerge, and /tell the arbiter about the winner. If it turns out we get a measly turnout, you can just chill on the sidelines and not have to worry about it instead. Secondly, I’m pleased to announce we have some lovely prizes in the works for the champions, and possibly for the runners up as well! These are still in the planning/crafting stages so we don’t have a full list yet, but please stay tuned for details! And also, once again, a huge thank you to the absurdly generous people donating them (you know who you are). Thirdly, we’re likely going to be pushing the ball back a week so that it doesn’t land on Canada Day/4th of July weekend. This will place it on Saturday, July 9th instead. Venue is still TBA. If anyone knows of any IC singers, bards, or conductors, please put them in contact – we’d love to have them for flavor! It would have to be a classy/classical act, though – we’re Ishgardian, after all. Stay tuned for more, and thank you for everyone helping to pull all this together! We really hope to make it worthwhile. 1 Link to comment
Gwenneth Posted June 6, 2016 Share #5 Posted June 6, 2016 Hello everyone! We’re still looking for assistant judges to help our arbiters out! Having a few spare hands will help ensure these matches run smoother for everyone involved. All you need to do is keep an eye on a handful of matches and notify the arbiter in charge when a winner emerges. It’s super easy! If you are interested in helping out, please contact Eliane Dufresne or Draco Nobis (Aramis Dumas in-game), or myself (in-game as Gwenneth Gilrouis). Link to comment
Gwenneth Posted June 10, 2016 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2016 Hey everyone! This is another quick note to say that we’re still looking for a minimum of three more volunteers available Friday the 24th and Sunday the 26th to help assist our arbiters during the Tournament! If we are still short hands by this upcoming Wednesday, we will unfortunately need to suspend the Tournament indefinitely until we have a full crew to man it. We’d rather ensure everything runs smoothly for everyone involved than risk a total gong show. Thank you, of course, to everyone who has volunteered so far to help make this happen! With your help, we can make this poncy fun for everyone. <3 -Ellie Link to comment

Martiallais Posted June 23, 2016 Share #8 Posted June 23, 2016 Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages...! As The Grand Tournament of the Fury preparations conclude, the games ready to begin tomorrow, Friday, June 24th and continuing on Sunday, June 26th I hope all the soon to be champions are making ready! However, there is one last announcement to be made! In keeping with the theme of the tournament, we would invite competitors, no matter the event, to BYOH! And what is BYOH one might ask? Well allow me to explain. It's simply an invitation to Bring Your Own Herald! Please see below for a few PRIME examples! jdWO9ozir1Y While we are all certain that every competitor set to take the field this weekend has a glorious and most epic tale to tell, in the interest of time we'll be allowing heralds to woo, wow, and rile the audience before the FINALS of each competition, then once more before the Grand Champion Melee! This is entirely optional, of course, and meant to be in good fun overall! We simply ask that any introductions be ready when the time to present them comes and not last longer than a couple minutes. We're all excited for the event and hope you all are too! Please look forward to it! 1 Link to comment

Eliane Dufresne Posted June 25, 2016 Author Share #11 Posted June 25, 2016 After two hard-fought competitions, our first champions have emerged! Congratulations to our Champion of the Range, Seiko Mamushi, and Champion of the Wand, Iieha Beautemps! Seiko takes home a Clockwork Barrow and Alpine Dinner Set, and Iieha takes home a High House Bustle! The tournament resumes this Sunday, at 7 PM EST in Camp Dragonhead for the Melee Tournament and the Joust! Please arrive early and gather in the courtyard in front of the stairs if you wish to compete! And thank you for making tonight an awesome night! We hope to see you for Round 2! 2 Link to comment
Martiallais Posted June 26, 2016 Share #12 Posted June 26, 2016 I hope everyone's shined their shields and sharpened their lances because... jgopHWACUXs Back again for the first time, tonight is the night for a second serving of (courteous) smackdowns at The Grand Tournament of the Fury starting at 7pm in Camp Dragonhead! Tonight will feature the Melee and Joust events and if that's not enough to fill your appetite for mayhem, once that's concluded (if time allows), we'll be seeing the Grand Champion Melee where all four champions will fight it out for and one will earn the title of GRAND CHAMPION! To allow for things to begin on time at 7pm, both myself (Martiallais Heuloix) and Gwenneth Gilrouis will be on site early to help begin sign ups early, answer any questions, and direct people to where they'll need to be so the real fun can begin! Spectators are encouraged once more, as competitors will need someone to give their favor to, so come and cheer your favorite warrior to victory! And to the combatants, may the Fury be with you! 1 Link to comment

Eliane Dufresne Posted June 27, 2016 Author Share #16 Posted June 27, 2016 The Grand Tournament of the Fury has drawn to a close, but the second day of festivities proved even more exciting than the first! The night was full of tense action and close competitions, with many victors emerging by a hair’s width. At last, after many hard-fought rounds, our champions emerged! The final results are as follows: Grand Champion: Percival Turner Percival took home a “Heroes” Orchestrion roll, a Savage Arc of Triumph, and 20,000 gil. Champion of the Blade: Guillanaux Oirellain Guillanaux took home a Falconer’s Tunic and a Stuffed Mandragora Queen. Champion of the Wand: Iieha Beautemps Champion of the Range: Seiko Mamushi Champion of the Lance: Percival Turner Percival also took home an Orthodox Barding and a High House Supper set. So many thanks are in order, I don’t even know where to start. In no particular order… Gwenneth Gilrouis – for her mad wrangling and organizational skills. This literally wouldn’t have happened without you. Martiallais Heuloix – for networking, advertising, brainstorming, and too much to count Aramis Dumas – for the original Tournament idea and for hashing out SO MANY RULESETS. Also for pro announcer skills. Rosaire Ledigne of The Explorer’s Society and Perrine Pepin for crafting and donating nearly all of our prizes. Stroud Forscythe of the Heartsong Sanctuary for his donation of the Arc of Triumph and the gil. Fearless Wolf, Brave Horizon, Hyrtwyda Eyhafrynwyn, Arcian Martell, Graeham Ridgefield, Defiant Bride, and Piers Hayward for volunteering, arbiting, overseering, brainstorming, announcing, and being generally awesome. Warren Castille and J’espi Inama for sharing information and experience with a bunch of clueless noobs. And last but not least, You! All of the competitors and spectators who turned up to hang out with us and have fun! You are what truly made this event! There’s probably several other people I’ve missed. If I forgot your name, I’m sorry, it wasn’t on purpose! It’s been a long day and I’m exhausted. On behalf of all of the Bellworks, we sincerely thank you and hope you had as much fun as we did. This was a tremendous amount of work, but seeing the huge turnout and everyone really into it made everything worthwhile. We’ll have final, concrete info on the celebratory ball within the next few days here, so stay tuned! And thank you again! 1 Link to comment

Martiallais Posted June 27, 2016 Share #19 Posted June 27, 2016 Thank you a thousand times to all the volunteers, competitors, and spectators! It's great to see such a good reception and to hear all the positive feedback on the event. Like Ellie said, hearing and seeing that everyone enjoyed the event makes all the hard work that went on behind the scenes most definitely worth it! One suggestion that we've heard (and initially considered but didn't follow through with this time) was having the events separately so one person could attempt to win them all. But if there are others, by all means, feel free to offer them! Thank you all once again! You really brought the event to life! Link to comment
Jancis Posted June 27, 2016 Share #20 Posted June 27, 2016 Thanks for hosting! For how long it was (thank the Gods it was on two days) it was a lot of fun to talk and spectate. Here's a handful of screenies: 1 Link to comment
