Abzu Posted October 18, 2016 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2016 Hey, My name is Abzu, and wish to inquire about which RP server is best for a complete newbie. I just recently started to play FFXIV, however, all of my friends stopped playing and went back to WoW, so I figured I would give RP a go. I use to thoroughly enjoy RP back when I use to play TOR, and the lore within FFXIV has proven to be quite interesting. Also, how does one transfer servers with a decent amount of gil? All of my friends kind of gave me all of their gil, if possible I would like to keep most of it during the transfer. Thanks again! Link to comment
Maril Posted October 18, 2016 Share #2 Posted October 18, 2016 The most popular RP server at the moment is Balmung. For a beginner, you should have a decent shot at finding yourself a group which can show you the ropes. As for keeping your gil, you will have to turn the gil you have beyond the transfer cap (which I do not remember what is at the moment) into items. Allagan pieces are a popular way of doing it because they vendor for a set price - But you should be aware that some people may try to sell these to you for way more than they are actually worth. Other than that, check what items are valueable on the server you are headed to - In Balmung's case, because creation is shut 24/7 you'd need to have a friend tell you the prices. You may be able to buy some items on your current server that is worth as much or could potentially turn you a profit once the transfer is complete. Also, do remember that you can transfer up to 8 characters in the same bout. They just all have to be 3 days (72 hours) old - So you may want to fill up your list before you pay up. Best of luck! o/ Link to comment
Abzu Posted October 18, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted October 18, 2016 Thanks for the info! How does one go about transferring gil to alts? I tried to mail the gil, but was unable to since I can only send mail to people on my friends list. Outside of Allagan pieces, what would you recommend someone buy if they were interested in transferring to Balmung? Sadly, I have no friends that currently play on Balmung to check for me. Thanks again. Link to comment
Thunderbolt300 Posted October 18, 2016 Share #4 Posted October 18, 2016 Welcome aboard to Balmung! You'll need to mail the gil to another player who can then mail it to an alt. It's a really haphazard way of doing it, but that's what I've heard is the only way to do it. Otherwise, you can buy up items on the marketplace to resell when you reach Balmung (currency conversion, pretty much). Link to comment
Branson Thorne Posted October 18, 2016 Share #5 Posted October 18, 2016 My opinion: Shards > Allagan Pieces Shards are usually a decent enough purchase for the fact you can sink a large amount of gil into them since there's so many to purchase and you can always resell them quickly on your new server. Keep in mind though that, much like an MB item you buy, you will probably end up with less then you started with when transferring what with the MB tax of buying/selling. Also in case you missed it, your character can hold 1 million in gil and keep it, as well as each retainer holding 100,000. So you can successfully transfer 1.2 mill without having to buy anything off of the MB for resell. Link to comment
Abzu Posted October 19, 2016 Author Share #6 Posted October 19, 2016 Shards are fairly expensive on my home server, I am going to try the alt method and just transfer over with 8 mil, and give the other 10 away or something. Since I really do not know the games economy well enough to buy items that will retain some value during the transfer. On a different note, Allagan Pieces on my server around posted at about an 85% market up, while it will suck, I might just go with that for the other 10 mil. Was happy at first they gave me their gil, now I am slightly annoyed. At the very least I can ask one of them to log in and mail my alts the gil after I level them. Hope to check out the server ASAP.
