Wayfarer's: T'was the Night before Starlight Contest

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Wayfarer's T'was the Night before Starlight Contest!

"T'was the night before Starlight, and all through the set;

commotion filled the halls, it was old Saint Rini Kett.

She twisted it and turned it and gave the toy a jerk,

with her knees deep in glamours, wrapping paper, the works.

But oh how she missed something in this cheery season

that riddled her mind and fell out of reason.

Because what plagued this Miqo'te so

is that she couldn't rhyme to save her life."

Welcome to the first T'was the Night before Starlight Contest and I will be upfront that this is no original idea by any means but something I remember someone doing on a World of Warcraft forum so many years ago that I don't want to think about it. Regardless! I look forward to seeing what everyone comes up with. So Bards, Poets, Money Hoarders! Are you Ready?

Da Rulez: The way this works is pretty simple. There is the age old time classic "The Night before Christmas" in which many of us at least know that first line. All you have to do in this contest is basically write your own wacky, fun poem about the Starlight Celebration. If anything, I would like people to do this for enjoyment but *sigh* money talks lol. So now that you know what it is here are the specifics.

 • 1st: 300,000 gil and bragging rights.
 • 2nd: 200,000 gil.
 • 3rd: 100,000 gil.

 1. Each entry must start with "T'was the night before Startlight". I figure that is obvious, but I want to make sure.
 2. Poems will be judged by the Wayfarers of Eorzea. We hope this contest stays friendly and keeps the heart of the season true.
 3. There is no length limit, and it will be purely judged on which three each judge likes the most and then averaged together and debated.
 4. Poems must be submitted here by 18th of December and the results will be posted Christmas Day.
 5. Keep it relevant to the season, please...Somewhat at least.
 6. Be creative and have fun!

I hope this is something everyone can have fun with and not take it too seriously as a competition. I hate posting things about Christmas before Thanksgiving, but I want to give ample opportunity for people to have time to write. Take care everyone and have a good one!

Spotted this and was bored on the train ride home. Have fun.

'Twas the night before Starlight,

And across all Eorzea;

Everyone was celebrating,

From Ishgard's spires to Ul'dah.

Every ilm was decorated,

And dressed up with such flair!

(Though, in the case of the Jewel,

it more meant "shop here and not there!")

But 'twas not just the cities,

With building and hall decked out.

But so too were its people,

As they gallivanted about.

There were outfits of crimson.

There were outfits of white.

There were outfits that seemed...

As if they had not been fitted quite right.

Outfits that were quite revealing!

Outfits that laid quite a lot bare.

Which you might think quite concerning,

And not just due to the chill in the air.

But worry you not,

'Tis but a glamour at work!

Beneath it lay chain and armor.

Oh my, such a perk!

So many fashions can be worn,

Can be flaunted away!

Without care for wardrobe malfunctions,

Or injury from an arrow astray.

So for this holiday season,

If you know not what to buy...

Perhaps a nice hat or coat,

And glamour prisms stacked high.

For though some might seem wild,

And while others far more tame.

Even at the peak of Starlight,

Glamour remains the true endgame.

Alright, this bard will bite the bait.

'Twas the night before Starlight, when all through Ishgard

Not a creature was stirring, not event this bard;

The red cloaks were hung by the barracks with flair,

With no idea of what the knights would soon dare.

The children were roaming the streets of Coerthas;

While visions of cold nights soon would pass;

And Halone looking down in fury and wrath,

Even she knows Ishgard’s eventual path,

When out in the streets, the was such a calamity,

The knights had sprung up, to stop this insanity.

Away to the doors the ran with a flash,

Ran out to the streets, wearing that red sash.

The moon shone down on the glistening snow,

Highlighting the poor orphans in the streets below,

And before their eyes, the red knights did appear,

And the orphans no longer had anything to fear,

Amidst all of the mass hysteria,

The knights pledged their lives to Saint Nymeia.

With read cloaks they mesmerized each child,

And hey whistled,shouted, and coaxed them quite mild,

"Now, Wyta! now, Raeje now R’yan and Tia!

On, X’ealo ! on, Wilma on, Donner and Fia!

To the barracks, quick, away with you now!

We have to hide, you, but we’re not sure how.”

As the snow flurries around them all,

When they meet with an obstacle, they refuse to fall;

So off to the barracks the children all ran,

Hidden by red cloaks, each worn by another man

And then, in a twinkling,they were back safe

The prancing and pacing as the children did race.

As the years passed, and flew  on by,

Down in history went the knights who could never die.

They had been dressed in red from head to toe,

And their armor would clang wherever they would go;

As years went by to remember this pack,

People would heave toys into a sack, and sling them over their back.

Their eyes would shine so bright on this day so  merry!

As they handed out gifts to the orphans, A’lan, Fraeah, and Terri

One child got a wooden horse, one got a toy doll, and one got a bow.

And they were so happy, they came outside to play in the snow;

What they beheld was quite beyond belief;

It was St Nymeia herself, carrying another sack, and a  wreath;

She had a face that was full of joy,

She had gifts for every single little girl and boy..

But she needed help spreading the happiness and wealth.

And when I saw her helpers, I laughed, in spite of myself;

Nymeia looked at me, staring into my eyes,

And when she did, I felt my spirits rise.

She spoke no words, but went to work,

Cheering up children was always a perk,

And finally, St Nymeia looked at my face,

And signaled wordlessly that she must leave this place.

She whisked away with no sight or sound,

And then she was simply no longer around.

But I heard her words on the wind of the night:

“May orphans have happiness on this Starlight!”

Accept this with my well wishes for everyone this holiday season.

T’was the night before Starlight, Through Hydaelyns lands;

The people were hustling, Much gil changing hands.

I handled my gifts, In my rucksack with care.

Since I knew there were brigands, With a most greedy glare.

The thieves they were lurking all proud in their vile,

As visions of sorrow would be here awhile.

With a Roe raising fists, and I with my sack

My FATE was to end,with strength that I lack.

When out from the sky, with the ring of the bell,

Some hero had yelled “Not to worry, all is well”.

Away to the alleys I ran in a huff,

As I hoped this new hero would be quite enough.

The stars in the sky felt renewed with much hope.

That justice would befall the large thieving dope.

As before my wide eyes, from the tower they fell,

Came a red legged lady, and a grumpy lalafell.

With moves like a whirlwind, so fierce and so quick.

I could not help but notice, her dynamite kick.

The lala as well with his spells made of fire,

Could still not resolve his obvious ire.

Her fists they had snapped, her smile so merry.

Her boots were quite built, even colored like a cherry.

The violence felt more, like a lark than a chore

The thieves were running, more than a bit sore.

With nary a word, the two walked on their way.

I figured at least I should give them some pay.

But I heard her yell out, in the clear starlit night,

“It’s Starlight my friend, now on to the next fight.”

So, we had about 4 submissions to this and one was late but I am going to include it anyway....Which is breaking the rules, but I really enjoyed it and it is Christmas...However there is this whole moral code that always bugs me and reminds me that I need to keep everything fair....Soooooo....

Everyone wins.

Yep, as much of a cop out as this is, I could not be more thankful for the participation and support that these guys have shown and in the spirit of Christmas I am ripping out the bragging rights prize, obviously, and giving those who participated their own grand prize.

Please PM in game, or add me to friends, or PM on here to set up a time that I can meet you to collect your prize. Thank you all again, every entry was fun to read and really gave me a warm feeling to see you all participate. Take care and have a Merry Christmas!
