"Blank" Soul/Job stones?

Recommended Posts

Was wondering if there was any mention in lore about soul/job stones that just aren't even printed onto. Where they come from, how they're created or etc. Typically every trainer so far just so happens to have one from years past but it's never explained how they start, who makes them, what they're made of and etc.

The MCH "manufactures" their's. This is the only one remotely that I can think of but I haven't done all of the job quests. Perhaps someone else can enlighten further; however below is a bit of information.

Flavor Text: "Unlike other soul crystals, the surface of this multi-aspected stone has yet to be carved with the record of past deeds."

Huh.... and the stone is so perfectly shaped. Maybe it whittles down over time like others or they're just very randomly shaped from wherever they come from?

Also, in most cases it seems like souls tones are just to give you the strength or knowledge to perform abilities. In MCH's case I guess they give it to you to pave the way for the future. In the end though, how many jobs truly "need" a souls tone to actually perform their part?

The MCH is new with Heavensward. They did not exist before that in the story. So the stones are very new. I would assume it's in part to the crafting/manufacturing of them that they're in part smoothly shaped much like a cut stone. However there's not much information on that that I am aware of. I don't recall it in my lore book but if you give me a few minutes I can see if there's anything in about the stones themselves.

Soulstones usually hold the whispers of their past owners; so yes they tend to hold the knowledge "teach" their users; but it requires a lot of training and study of the individual. As for how many jobs require it; I would tend to think to be a "capital" letter job ie. DRG vs drg you would require the stone to learn the knowledge. I know the WAR and NIN story do directly "whisper" knowledge to you as it says when you learn a new ability through the storyline.

There's a diff between DRG and drg? Or do you mean a Dragoon vs the dragoon knights?

Some of those stones are also necessary for some jobs to act as catalysts or channeling stones, like for BLM (Gems of Shattoto) or MCH (used in conjonction with the aetherotransformer). I also suspect the WhM soulstone to be necessary to access the modern version of Succor (Elementals credentials of sorts).

Soulstones are of course crafted. Your best source would probably be the Anima series: the Anima is born of various advanced crystal technics able to concentrate enough aether and bind it to a soulstone so that it can eventually form an embryo of personality, evolving eventually to a full fledged conscious being.

Your usual soulstone would probably require a lot less specific and rare materials since you don't ask it to hold the crucible of life itself, though, just a repository of memories and personas.

So yes, since the first users of a soulstone have to actually print their knowledge and persona on it, those soulstones are blank and empty at first. Same for the anima soulstone, that we get to replace a few times when she grows (the last one most notable step being the ilvl260 where you require pneumite for a node to craft it, which shows the amount technology required here).

Also in short, creating soulstones is not something trivial.
