[20 December 2017] Technical Help Wanted

Nero

Recommended Posts

Greetings and salutations, gentle forumgoers.

Remember that RPC upgrade we're working on? With the help of your generous donations, we managed to raise enough money to purchase a license of IPS 4.2. It's our hope that with an across-the-board site upgrade, we'll be able to better facilitate the needs of the RP community of Final Fantasy XIV.

We haven't forgotten about it. Promise. Your donations were not wasted. Ever since we purchased the license, we've been making slow but steady progress on migrating all of the data over to a new host.

However, we're still a handful of people working amidst the tumultuous obligations of real life and such. In order to speed up and smooth out this process, the RPC Staff is putting out a call for technically-minded volunteers.

Right now, we're looking for people with experience in the following areas, in order of our priorities with the top of the list being our highest priority:

- AWS (Amazon web services) administration

- MediaWiki experience

- nginx, php and mysql exposure (html and css a bonus)

- Linux experience (basic know-how, installing/configuring above software)

Questions and inquiries should be sent to Unnamed Mercenary. If you're interested in helping out, feel free to contact any member of the staff.

Thank you for your help and support!

To add, we are looking for people familiar with running/modifying forum software as well. With any migration, there's a new system to learn and themes/plugins cannot be transferred. Experience working with Invision Power Services-based sites would be welcome!

As Nero stated, this is a technical role and not a policy making/enforcing role. (A separate post for that may happen in the future based on moderator availability.)

As always, the test site is currently in an opt-in state for testing/feedback for all users. (Patrons simply have automatic opt-in.) Even if you aren't able to apply for a technical position, your feedback is extremely helpful so that our migration will be as seamless and beneficial for users as possible.
