A leap of faith?

Recommended Posts

I've been wanting to try out RP in FFXIV for quite some time already, but being stuck on a datacenter which does not have an unofficial rp server I've only been able to try a little bit. Being used to RP in other MMO's I'm sure I will enjoy it a lot if I find myself a community so I'm not worried about that, but by changing server I'll also leave behind real life friends which will find my decision strange. I could make a new character on the RP server (which also seems more reasonable to/for them), but that doesn't feel like the same, given how much time I've put into the character, unique stuff and e.t.c I wouldn't be able to commit to another character as much as I feel I should when it comes to RP

Is there anyone here who has faced a similar issue? What did you end up doing?

That's a tough sitch to be in. Personally, I can't say I've been your exact situation, but here are some top-of-mind ideas for you:

Make an alt on Crystal Data Center
You've already mentioned that it won't feel the same. But since it sounds like you're not neck-deep yet in the RP community, you might want to use the alt as an excuse to feel out what the RP community (on Crystal) is like. You wouldn't have to put too much time and effort to make a working RP character. I've heard of people who use Free Trial accounts for just this purpose.

Fellowships
Have you tried looking for RP fellowships and reaching out to people this way? Might be worth a shot if you haven't yet.

Omega RP Discord
I'm pretty sure I've seen this mentioned somewhere, but I can't find it. I do know that among the EU Servers, Omega is the one that is said to be the most active for RP (if that's saying anything). Maybe someone else can shed more light on this.

Ultimately, before you decide to do anything, you ought to ask yourself what you find important to make your gaming experience fun. Maybe you'll find heavily immersive RP to be more fun than content, or maybe you'll be satisfied with just having an alt to RP on when the mood strikes you.

Thanks for the reply ^^

I do definitely feel RP will be the main point of my entertainment, I've been in a similar situation back in GW2 where I had grown tired of the games content and moved to an RP server, which gave me another two years of fun from RP alone.

The alt idea is not bad, I'll probably give that a shot if I don't give in to my selfish desire first and just end up transferring 😅

I have looked for fellowships but only found 1 on my server, and from the researching I have done there's not a lot on the other severs that is on the same datacenter
