Vallerin Quiloud Posted June 23, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 23, 2020 Hello! I am a new player of Final Fantasy 14, but not to RP in general. I had done a bit of research before I started and found this website. I was able to make a character on Balmung whose name is Vallerin Quiloud and get into the Novice Network there. I was told that I need to finish something called Ultimate in order to start roleplaying. Is that a dungeon or something? I hope to get a good backstory set up before I get into RP here and learn more about the game. Feel free to say hi if you see me in game. 1 Link to comment
Branson Thorne Posted June 24, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 24, 2020 You can begin RPing as early as leaving the character creation screen and progressing the MSQ out of the instanced starting quest. I have no idea why someone would claim that apart from them being an obvious troll. Although I would recommend grabbing a few level and focus on completing the MSQ to the point of being able to dye/glamour your gear, and gaining access to the other city-states. (Level15) Not to mention that people will take you a bit more serious of you are on a character with a few hours of gameplay under it's belt. ((There's a stigma surrounding "Sprouts" in the fact that most Level 1 characters with the green leaf by their name are just ERP alts.)) Link to comment
Vallerin Quiloud Posted June 24, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted June 24, 2020 Oh, thanks for that. I had asked about RP in the Novice Network and someone told me that. Heh. And yes, I wanted to get some basics of the game under my belt so to speak before RPing. Though many said I should look for a Free Company early. Is that beneficial? Link to comment
Moon Type Posted June 24, 2020 Share #4 Posted June 24, 2020 Some recommend completing main quests in MMOs to help the player get a grasp of the basics of the setting as well as some of the relevant details like varying cultures, politics, physics and important story points which affect the world. Some also suggest main quest completion because they don't want new players to have the story spoiled for them by accident, and FFXIV has some of the better story telling among the MMOs of its release period. I haven't really come across many spoilers while RPing but it's a definite possibility if characters start talking about current events, important figures or even an innocent mention of travel routes to areas cut off in the early game. That being said, Stormy Bell is absolutely correct in that you can start RPing whenever you like. Heck, someone can start RPing in Discord before they even play the game and long after they're done with it. Link to comment
Faye Posted June 25, 2020 Share #5 Posted June 25, 2020 Hello there, welcome! I'm not sure why anyone told you that you need to complete anything to RP; you can hop into RP at anytime, though it doesn't hurt to wait until you've progressed into the game a bit to unlock more outfits and zones, and learn a bit more about the lore. Looking for a Free Company is entirely up to you. They can help you out with leveling and if you join an RP FC, you can find some RP there, but it's not necessary. Link to comment
