Original Hylion Posted August 9, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 9, 2020 I'm somewhat new to FFxiv but I'm far from a stranger when it comes to RPing, although my experience stems more from forum RPs and D&D than MMO RPs. I've played several MMOs in the past, such as Runescape, WOW, Swtor, Archeage, BDO, and a few others. Currently for FFxiv, I'm particularly new, but I've got a nice nonRP FC that's been helping me learn and now my main runs Dragoon, Samurai, and Gunbreaker, and learning the dungeons quickly! I've never RPed in an MMO before but I am very excited to do so, I just don't know where to start... I have three character ideas, all male (I identify as Male as well). My main, Lachlann Hunter is on Balmung and the one I will likely play the most. I have a bit of a backstory thought out for him, but I'm not sure if it feels relevant enough for me. My second is Tiberius Bradford on Balmung, but he was made so I could play with my GF, so he's mostly off limits until she wants to get into RPing. I have a third idea that I'm still thinking on about a character from Doma, but I'm holding on it until I learn more about the settings. My intentions is to at least get into medium RP for all three, and maybe heavy RP for one or two of them once I've grown more comfortable, but I guess right now since I don't know where to start, I'm only a light RPer. I'm US Central time but I usually only play really late at night. I'm down for most Roleplay, really in whatever style works, but if something happens that I'm not interested/comfortable with, I'll usually just express it and exit the situation. 1 Link to comment

Gerel Kha Posted August 10, 2020 Share #4 Posted August 10, 2020 Honestly, there are a ton of ways to get involved. One of the more common? Walk-up RP! Type /roleplaying whenever you're ready to begin, hit the walk button, and go searching for anything that really piques your interest. Popular scene at the moment for Balmung is Ul'dah's Pearl Lane. Another way is to keep tabs of various RP events that're going on. If you take a look at the party finder on any given night, you'll likely find a number of RP get-togethers being advertised. They're often bars/taverns and restaurants, but it you'll sometimes find more niche gatherings being advertised across the entirety of the data center. You could also throw up an advertisement on this very site for any potential plots/ideas you'd like to explore with like-minded and interested souls. Really, main way of finding RP is persistence and communication with your fellow RPers. Keeping a friendly and open mind will do wonders to help you find your place in things as you experiment and find what, exactly, works for you in MMO RP. 1 Link to comment

Finding an RP FC is a good start, but you can make do just fine without if you want to stay in your current FC. You can find some community RP Discords to join (there's some listed here on the forums and such), visit some events (plenty on the calendar!), and throw out some LFRP posts here or on social media platforms like tumblr. As Gerel mentioned, you can also do some walk-up RP at Pearl Lane in Ul'dah or anywhere else you see people with their RP flags on (you can always send them a /tell OOC first if you're not certain whether they'll be on board to RP). 1 Link to comment
