allgivenover Posted July 8, 2013 Share #1 Posted July 8, 2013 Two interesting bits today, one, an explanation about reasons for XIV's passing on an Xbox version and the other a YoshiP interview. http://www.rpgsite.net/news/2498-ff14-director-a-realm-reborn-skipping-xbox-is-still-down-to-microsoft and, http://www.rpgsite.net/interviews/451-final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn-interview-with-naoki-yoshida Of note in the second article. Once I'm back in Japan I will probably write a long forum post again to explain in more detail to the fans. Myself, I am one of those who really wants to make sure that the FF14 world is kept safely in a FF14 way - so I don't want to destroy the lore. There's going to be plenty of cutscenes and explanation of the reasons in the storylines of why Lightning can appear in FF14. Whew, glad there's going to be a reason for it instead of just an unexplained cameo. Link to comment
Grayfox Posted July 8, 2013 Share #2 Posted July 8, 2013 I'm sure we weren't the only two who were worried about the whole Lightning thing. At first I was really worried about if they were actually being serious or not. Everytime i start to doubt the team behind this game I remember what they've done for all of us fans. The fact that Yoshi has went through so much to bring us FFXIV:ARR is just so amazing. This team has so much respect for their fans and it really shows. I'm pretty excited to see how they fit Lightning in. I've decided to just sit back and relax and wait. Link to comment
TheLastCandle Posted July 11, 2013 Share #3 Posted July 11, 2013 Those odd tattoos that are going to appear on the returning characters? They're actually L'Cie brands. Nooooo~ Okay, not really. It'll be interesting to see the IG reason for Lightning being here will be, though. Link to comment
Havoc Snow Posted July 11, 2013 Share #4 Posted July 11, 2013 He's actually said a few times now that there was going to be an explanation for why she existed in FF14, in fact he even said it during the event they announced it to begin with. The problem was that people were getting so irrationally angry over her existence that that bit of information kind of got lost. Still, I don't think ANY explanation will quell the rage her existence has caused, because it's still the real Lightning and not just a Hyur that looks like her. Link to comment

Darn! And I had my money on it being a Lallafel in a Lightning suit.... Link to comment
Yahdo Posted July 12, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 12, 2013 Final Fantasy games are each in it's own universe. Well Yoshi, as I see it, has connected all the universes into one big Multiverse. With Lightning being in the game I think we will be seeing other characters and enemies from other games as well in the future or even side to side with Lightning. Again, this is my opinion on how they are going to spin it so I could be dead wrong. Link to comment

FFV set a precedent in the franchise for dimension traveling, I'd be more put off if she was a Hyur that just happened to look, act, and bear the same name as Lightning. If she's here due to that precedent or a similar device, I'll be fine with it. Link to comment

He did say something about working with all the Final Fantasy developers to try to help them all out so I think we may see quite a few more cameos, possibly from XV as well. Maybe Bahamut has ripped some kind of dimensional portal? Or maybe it has something to do with The Void. Cosmos and Chaos from Dissidia brought them here! I don't know haha. This is probably exactly what they are talking about in the developer room as we speak. Link to comment
Aysun Posted July 14, 2013 Share #9 Posted July 14, 2013 I'd rather they just keep the universes separate... /sigh Link to comment
Havoc Snow Posted July 14, 2013 Share #10 Posted July 14, 2013 I'd rather they just keep the universes separate... /sigh The universes have really never been separate, we just haven't had a crossover as blatant as this before. Gilgamesh is stated as always being the same Gilgamesh in ever game he appears in, and counting all the remakes I believe Gilgamesh at this point has appeared in every single numbered title, and even some unnumbered titles. Dissidia also shows that all the universes are connected, and yes I understand the characters (with the exception of Gilgamesh again) are not the real characters, but that the game takes place in a plane that connects all the universes if it can pull the essence of characters from their universe. If they were separate, this wouldn't be possible. Link to comment

Kylin Posted July 14, 2013 Share #12 Posted July 14, 2013 Yoshi made a post about this yesterday on the beta forums (the FF collaboration part, not the xbox stuff). You can find the post here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ARR-Test/threads/82347-About-FF-Series-Collaboration?p=972944#post972944 FFXIV: A Realm Reborn Producer and Director Yoshida here. Thank you for all the feedback and discussion in regards to the collaboration between LIGHTNING RETURNS: FINAL FANTASY XIII and FFXIV: A Realm Reborn that was announced at E3 and Japan Expo. While I was reading over all the comments and writing a post, I thought that there needs to be a clear explanation and decided to create this thread. The Japan Expo stage is a place where people that like Japanese sub-culture gather and we focused on the below attractive aspects for our presentation: Lightning will be appearing in the world of FFXIV! Lightning and Snow costumes can be obtained in the world of FFXIV! As a result, I believe there are some of you who are concerned with the implications for the lore of FFXIV: ARR and the world of Eorzea and thought, "Why are you shoehorning Lightning into FFXIV?" or "Is the game just going to be filled with other with FF characters?" This is the first time we've tried having a FINAL FANTASY series character make an appearance in another world in a numbered FINAL FANTASY title. After announcing this at Japan Expo, we will be having a detailed meeting with the LIGHTNING team, but the general consensus between both teams is that "it shouldn’t just be a simple appearance." Why is Lightning in the world of Eorzea? Why is Lightning fighting in the world of Eorzea? What's the connection between adventurers and Lightning? And what will happen to Lightning after visiting Eorzea? The story that answers these questions is already being created and it will also be related to the Lightning saga. This is not just a Lightning clone showing up in Eorzea; it is the one and only Lightning. We are also creating a lot of character dialogue for Lightning as well as special cut scenes. We've established a proper story, and I hope you're excited to see it. Also, in regards to future collaborations with other FF series, we will be adhering to the below principles: We will never introduce characters that would destroy their meaning or story We will not use characters that are already dead or whose role has ended in their title For example, "Red XIII" who appeared in FFVII. I believe we mentioned "Red XIV" as a joke before, but Red XIII has a very rare and specific role in the world of FFVII. If he was wandering around the world of Eorzea it would destroy the image of the world of FFVII, so this can’t happen. This is just a simple example of what we mean. Leading up to my involvement with FFXIV, I've always been a fan of the FF series just like everyone else. Because of that, I want to keep the lore important and consider the storyline in its entirety, so please don't be worried when it comes to this. P.S. When it comes to Minions, however, we are going to completely run with it. Link to comment

rynshun Posted July 15, 2013 Share #14 Posted July 15, 2013 When I first saw the screencaps, I didn't read the text so I thought it was just the creators messing around. Now that I realize this is for real I am not sure what to think. I haven't really played the FFXIII game (brushes the dust off it) but now I'm feeling I should. But I guess I'll wait and see what they do to explain her appreance to if I'll be excited or not. Link to comment
