ArmachiA Posted July 27, 2010 Share #26 Posted July 27, 2010 Though I like the idea, I'm not sure where your getting the idea that being in a linkshell means your being tied down? People join linkshells based on what their characters want, in all honesty, your character would fit just fine in the CB and still be able to do whatever it is he wants (A guy looking for a certain treasure using a map he has is very Uncharted, which is the whole concept of our guild). So yeah not getting that at all Link to comment
Shamadconde Posted July 27, 2010 Share #27 Posted July 27, 2010 I'm also getting the sense that you think you can only be in one LS. If FFXIV is anything like FFXI when it comes to LSes, you can be in as many as you want.... Link to comment
Merri Posted July 27, 2010 Author Share #28 Posted July 27, 2010 I guess it's just more the thought, than the actual physical connection. The thought of answering to no one, being a part of nothing but your own motives. Not even a member of a no-strings-attached guild. Just yourself. Not any kind of organization behind you. Even if you're a part of a linkshell that lets you be your own boss, you're still a part of that group. The idea of it. Though, after some discussion and thought, perhaps this initial idea was a bit ambitious for a lone person. It would take a lot of planning, and a lot of organizing to get something this big off the ground, and I probably don't have the manpower to pull it off. Something of this scale would be best left to the RPC itself, which would have more resources. But part of me still wants to throw out the option of engaging roleplay that wouldn't involve sitting around in a tavern all night, and actually being out and about without having to be a member of a linkshell. Perhaps a static of sorts would be something doable. A group of four or five people. Link to comment
DAISHI Posted July 27, 2010 Share #29 Posted July 27, 2010 Well I'm interested in seeing where this goes. The truest test will be to see how many people help get it off the ground. Link to comment
Kylin Posted July 27, 2010 Share #30 Posted July 27, 2010 I think you can still pull this off as a single person, though maybe not in the way you initially imagined. From what I see so far, the game is extremely RP friendly (moreso than FFXI at least anyway). You could easily make up your own random guildleve every now and then and post it in the Bulletin Board. Then just see who shows up. You'll likely get some freelancers and non-freelancers alike. It could be a simple "go get this item" guildleve or a more "epic" type of guildleve. Just a thought. ArmachiA Posted July 27, 2010 Share #31 Posted July 27, 2010 ^ Pretty much. There are both pros and cons of being freelance. While you'll be able to put up your own storyline for people to participate in, don't expect people to be full on invested in it beyond the guildleves or events you set up. I know my guild will come to the events, some will be willing to help you, some will want the map for themselves and try to take it. So basically what I'm getting at here is please don't treat my guildies any differently because they aren't freelance. You're playing right into our concept Link to comment
Merri Posted July 27, 2010 Author Share #32 Posted July 27, 2010 The whole point of it being open to all was because I didn't want to discriminate against those in linkshells. So, I really wouldn't see that happening. I also could never expect an overwhelming response or interest in something like this. Part of being Freelance is simply being alone. That's one of the reasons I want to stay Freelance. (That, and i'm not a fan of linkshell/guild politics. ) Anyways, I made this post to see what others thought, and to help take my rough idea and shape it down a bit. They voiced some things that hit home, and now i'm starting to fine tune the idea. I've still got a few solid months to hammer everything out, so, we'll just have to see what happens down the road. But if anyone would want to be more directly involved in the planning, or voice ideas, or whatever else, i'm always listening. Link to comment
Hayden Posted July 28, 2010 Share #33 Posted July 28, 2010 As interesting as this sounds, I am seeing a lot of Chaos and a lot of very difficult roads to cross before this becomes a reality. Don't let me deter you from this by all means. I am interested in seeing where this goes. Also, not being a free lancer does not exclude ANY of us from rping with a member or another link shell/guild when ever we like. If I am meandering around the noob zones and run into someone from A.E.T.H.E.R or Balthazar's Favor, or anyone for that matter in the RPC, I'll gladly rp, interact and engage in any number of sub plots. My character is my own after all right? In a way I view all of us as POTENTIAL freelancers in that sense. T.A.L.E is the guild I joined and I am part of their plot and story line, they are my in-game family...or in FF terms my "party". But that doesn't stop me from rping with someone else. When I was in Crystalline I held a Ethereal pearl as well. When it was dull on one shell I'd swap to the other. Good luck, and I'm interested to see how this works out. Link to comment
Merri Posted September 12, 2010 Author Share #34 Posted September 12, 2010 Took quite a long hiatus there, though I'm sure not many noticed. As it stands, this is still up in the air. Figured I would chime in here so that the influx of new members could glance over it, since it's quite a few pages back and was an rather quiet subject in the first place. We'll just have to see how things play out at this point. Link to comment
Xzenivar Posted September 12, 2010 Share #35 Posted September 12, 2010 I'm curious, since I'm currently a freelancer wondering if there is a LS out there for me. Though it might be more plausible if freelancers were to, for lack of a better term, unionize. Is there representation in the council? I wonder if its even possible without it becoming another guild like entity. :? Link to comment
Hiyoshroom Posted September 17, 2010 Share #36 Posted September 17, 2010 I have one 'freelance' type character with whom I'd love a large chunk of RP, and this sounds rather interesting if I can indeed attend. Link to comment
Chveya Posted September 18, 2010 Share #37 Posted September 18, 2010 Slightly off-topic but slightly not ... an idea for freelancey-type folks? http://www.ffxiv-roleplayers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=1657 Link to comment
Merri Posted September 18, 2010 Author Share #38 Posted September 18, 2010 The subject was debated a bit earlier in the thread, and I personally didn't want to go that route, as part of this entire idea is that those who are already in linkshells, and those who aren't could all interact. The emphasis being on the latter, though, of course. Mainly because they're the ones who would be attending possible events on a more frequent basis, as linkshell members may have their own schedules that may interfere with the occasional meeting or story progression. As far as your idea is concerned, even though it wouldn't be a "Linkshell" in-character, it's still a linkshell. The whole point of this idea was to avoid that affiliation all together. However, I wouldn't let this discourage your idea at all, as there wouldn't be any reason the two couldn't co-exist. Link to comment

That's okay, I just threw it out there in case anyone wanted to scoop it up anyhow -- I'm about as good at organizing people (even into loose clusters) as ordinary folks are at herding cats.
