RPCV Episode 5

Recommended Posts

My character is the pre-primordial force that created the primordial force that created the twelve! :o

>.>

<.<

Nice one, loved it. So, pugilists rock uh? Good to know. ^^

As for the forums needing to be broke up more though... I dunno. I mean them having multiple pages is either because people are talking a LOT in the thread or the thread's been derailed. Having more of them more spread out wouldn't change that.

And lolcats do help. They make people happy. :P

And uhm.. I hope not to bring the whole RP relationship debate here, but I just thought I'd explain...

RL relationships -have- emerged from RP relationships in the past and will likely continue to do so. You can put a limit between IC and OOC all you want, but you can't control your own heart. So that may be why people may be worried.

And finally... Epic news are epic!

And the Kefka server joke.. well.. it was a veeeeeeery long podcast and I may have been distracted hearing parts of it, so yeah. Might have missed the joke. Anyway Sephiroth will probly not be avoided.. it will be avoided by US but all the Sephifanboys and Sephifangirls will be there. :P

I till vote Golbez. He has this awesome organ theme. :P

But seriously, I think we should aim for Low Pop, because us all going there will make it Medium. :P

(Okay wishful thinking here.. Medium sounds fine)

I haven't been able to find any French RP communities yet. I think the RPC in and of itself should not go out of our way to get close to other languages RP communities. If it happens, it's cool, I know I'll RP with French RPers if I find any. But, yeah. It's not like -everyone- can do that.

We'll be delving deeper into RP relationships and RL relationships in a later episode. I think it's an interesting topic. I need to actually get through all of that thread when I have time. But we were more focused on whether or not our characters would be involved in relationships. The reasoning behind that for Jared and I had a lot to do with the races and personalities that we chose. I highly anticipate talking about this more when we do the relationship episode. I have a feeling my views won't be received well by some.

As far as breaking up the forum, I think it would help. I'd much rather read 6 2-page topics than a single 12-pager.

I agree with you on avoiding Sephiroth. I'm afraid I can't go along with Mason's reverse psychology strategy.

Reverse psychology only works if everyone is going in not-reverse. :P

And uhm... Even if I agree it would be easier to read 6 2-pages topics than a single 12-pages one... how would it be prevented from being like 1 12-page topic and 5 2-pages one.. or.. 6 12-pages ones!!

No matter how split the forums would be, if there's any one topic where a lot of people have a lot to say, pages will stack up in that topic. Unless the forum is mechanically designed to auto-lock after X pages, in which case people will start popping " Continued" topics, which will then max out pages and so on.

That's why I ask.. how would it help?

Link to comment

I think it may be easier to get one person to check each topic then come up with a summary of the points to discuss, it'll help break up the work reading-wise.

Also, dunno how you are sell outs as its not like you are being paid :P

If you need any help going through any of the topics on the forums and getting the main points down let me know, I am on here a lot and have no life to speak of right now :P

Nice podcast :)

For the forums: I know it can be confusing, especially if you don't frequent them often, but what about, as Renaise sort of offered, get a few people to help with suggesting threads each week, because I know a lot of people (like myself) are way too active on the forum, and thus has a pretty good idea of what is going on and what might be interesting talking about :)

About relationships... It's really tricky not to take the debate here :P I sort of disagree that RL relationships and OOC relationship has nothing to do with each other, as you mentioned yourself, you don't want to upset your partner, and no matter what you say, IC and OOC is NEVER completely separated. Of course it depends on your partner, but really, I don't see anything wrong with not wanting to play a relationship because you don't want to take the risk of upsetting your partner, or to mainly rp relationship with your actual partner, because you know that won't create drama.

And I speak a little German :P But I agree, I feel it would be much more courteous to at least invite for instance German and Japanese roleplay communities to roll on the same server as us.. Or not invite, but... Suggest it :)

And it sounds great with your big news! Good luck with that! It will be awesome, reaching out to so many more people and giving them more insight of what roleplay is :)

And... Does that mean the spot as official RPC podcast will be open? 8-)

Thanks for the offers of help! We've said from the start that we will take as much suggestions, feedback, etc. as you'd be willing to give. So if you want us to discuss something you found interesting, make a note of it and send us an email! That's what the whole "Contact Us" announcements are all about hehe

Interesting... I am not sure! I suppose no one can stop you but I'd want to see what the community thinks. We'd be covering the same material (for the most part) if there were to be 2 RP podcasts. We'll be focused on the happenings of the RPC regardless of the move, so I am not sure if it's really needed. That being said, if people feel like they want other RP-related podcasts, by all means, have at it hoss :P

Hehe, well, it was partly a joke, though I do think it could be interesting. But you're right, if you guys continue to cover the RPC, it likely won't be needed. I was more thinking in the case that you guys "moved on to bigger waters" and started to cover the community as whole, it might be nice with something that focused on the RPC internally.

It should xD

I always wanted to do a comedic segment about RPing as girl. All the trip falls of having boobs in an MMO

That reminds me I need to get that "Girls of the RPC" calendar together :P

But yeah I think if we could come up with an angle to the show to make it different from the current podcast it might be an interesting addition. I wouldn't mind being counted in as a host in that case :P

Hey, we're still here! Have some respect! The body is barely in the ground! :P

We plan to cover the RPC as closely as possible although like I mentioned we might have a separate short episode for that. Keep in mind we will still remain extremely influenced by the RPC and what you guys contribute to the podcast. We still want to be very much grounded in the RP community even after the move to a different host. Barely anything will change from the excising style (unless we chose to change for some reason) so we'll still be asking for guest-hosts, community news, storyline updates, etc.

But anyway I'm sure this can be further discussed in a separate thread. What did you think of episode 5? hehe

Good stuff as always. I have a thought on the in-character segment proposal, assuming the discussions are still open in this regard.

I completely agree with you in relation to an "in-character" segment not being that great of an idea. That type of thing came up during the thread on voice communication and most people agreed it just lead to increased problems. But there is a way I can think of to hit something similar.

Pretty much everyone is familiar with the concept of books on tape. What if the various guilds were encouraged to submit either a thread from their forums or a story style write-up of an event they held that could be read in that regard? It would give a feel for the type of RP the guild in question uses and might help bring in new members as well as maybe going some ways towards achieving the goal of having an in-character statement that was requested. There would need to be a minimum and maximum length of course, as well as possibly some restrictions on content. Submissions could be evaluated and selected by those running the podcast (as putting it to a public vote runs the risk of the larger guilds running roughshod over the smaller ones simply due to the likelihood of people voting for the story that came from their own guild). Of course *cough* someone would be needed to fulfil the role of narrator *cough* and in the event *cough* someone from the guild in question either isn't available or doesn't want to play that role should their piece be selected *cough* I woud be happy to offer my smooth, soothing English tones for the task. Cough.

ddooood that would be awesome. I'm sure you'd even find people who would want to read for it. Like a radio show!

I don't really see how splitting up the forums more is going to help in the slightest. A 15 page thread is still going to be 15 pages. We have a chatty group and having tons of forum sections really wouldn't change that. That said, we have been splitting posts from threads that get too off topic. That's about all we can do really. I can understand how it's all overwhelming though. Even I have to "mark topics as read" every now and then. But again, there's not much we can do about it unless we tell people to outright stop posting >.>. It'll slow down eventually.

Also...hang the sellouts! You little traitors!

Seriously though, I'm really excited that Eorzeapedia has taken the RP community under its wing for the podcast. It'll give us so much more needed exposure to the general community (and maybe even SE). When I suggested to FusionX to cover the RP community a bit more from time to time, I didn't anticipate he'd take it this far. So that's really awesome. My ONLY fear though is that you guys might eventually start drifting from your roots/purpose (the RP community) and slowly become more generalized over time. I really hope that doesn't happen but I just wanted to toss that little concern out there.

We need more group discussions like in episode 3. Those are really neat.
