It's a good chance to see just how high quality the meshes for these creatures are, and the detail they are putting into their normal maps. The attention to detail is just amazing. I recommend anyone interested in 3D modeling take a look.

I'm still waiting for them to put out a trailer for the game as epic as the one they made for FFXI. So far all I've seen is "oooh shiny, you all like shiny things right?" Where is the fricking substance already?

It's a tech demo, which is always nice, but it still doesn't draw me in to the game itself.

We do get very little of the actual content in these. I'm taking on faith the fact there there will be lots of story and stuff to do based on FFXI. The stuff they've shown is beautiful, and as a 3D production artist myself I can say that the stuff they are doing is amazing, but it has nothing to do with the gameplay or the content. It can be the prettiest game in the world, but if it isn't fun to play, it's not a good game.

 

That said, I think this will be fun to play. I would like some official ingame videos of story content or something similar.

But the shiny is too shiny so we can't see it. Need sunglasses.

Beta sucks, you fanatically stay up until 05:00, powered only by energy drinks to get your char up the highest level possible and then you finally acquire an epic weapon and the next day the beta ends. Besides, imagine the unknown you'll be diving into when FFXIV comes out.

I really liked that video in particular. The attention to detail is astounding, as many have already said. One part that stuck out the most to me, is when it was showing the huge ogre looking thing, the things hanging around it's waist were pushed out of the way with it's leg as it walked in place. That was a "Holy Sh*t" moment for me. Almost every game out so far just lets the model clip with the clothing it wears player or otherwise. I was very impressed that it happens to no be the case for FFXIV.

I was feeling exactly the same. There just seem to be put so much work into making the mobs realistic looking, rather that plasticy action figures. I love it, can't wait to see how it looks with the entire world, when everything come together!
