Havoc Snow Posted August 12, 2013 Share #27 Posted August 12, 2013 Are they still technically Beastmen if they are playable? Once they become playable one would assume you're free to join any of the available City-States, and Grand Companies, which would no longer qualify them as being Beastmen based on the criteria that Beastmen live and operate outside of the influence of the City-States. If they came from the same place as the Miqo'te originally did, I think it's more likely that SE would go with the cliche of them being age old enemies (Cat vs. Dog) than saying they were ancestral allies or some such. Still there's a LOT of places in Eorzea that's untouched by the game so far, plenty of room for some isolated race to exist, so who knows what we'll see. True indeed. Personally I'd love to see a new race of beastmen pushed from the Garlemald? area that teams up with the native Eorzeans. The Garlean Empire seems like they would have been pretty effective at wiping out or enslaving any Beastmen populations in Garlemald, and if any fleeing Beastmen had escaped they probably would have done so during the push into Ala Mhigo. Ildur Posted August 12, 2013 Share #28 Posted August 12, 2013 Bunny girls or cat girls. Decisions, decisions... I'll pick Miqo'te because we already have them. With that said, however, if Squeenix adds any race I hope they are dwarves. Because every game should have dwarves with awesomely large and complex beards. Not that I expect them to do that...but I can dream! Link to comment

Gospel Gestalt Posted August 12, 2013 Share #30 Posted August 12, 2013 We also see Qiqirn and Goblins in Limsa Lominsa so I'm not sure that makes them very unique in regards to beastmen living among the normal folks. I was more referring to the Mamool Ja being a new entity added into the mix since the Calamity. We don't really know much about them, other than that they came across the seas and are apparently known for their work as mercenaries. We've only seen a few that are presumably friendly, of course. Lore-wise, Qiqirin and Goblins have long since been integrated into Eorzean society. More-so in Limsa Lominsa and Gridania than Ul'dah, however, as the sultanate has a beef with beastmen. Both Qiqirin and Goblins are fairly common-place in the city-states, though. You'll see them peddling their wares in the markets. Mamool Ja, on the other hand, are this completely new race that seem to be fairly aggressive, so it's interesting to see them mingling with Eorzean society. Are they actually from across the sea? The only Lore not related to FFXI I could find about them implied they were implied to have come directly from Vana'diel, though I never encountered any besides the one in the Arcanist Guild in Limsa Lominsa, and never saw any hostile ones to see if there was any indication of whether that was true or not. To Rock, I as a major fan of Werewolves in general, I would love a Wolf type race to be added to the game, even if it wasn't anything related to Lycanthropy. Sadly I could see it being more likely as a new Beastmen Race than a new player race. This is really the only snippet of info we have to go off of at the moment. I'm not really sure where people keep assuming that they are from Vana'deil? I've searched everywhere and I have not been able to find anything that even remotely suggests this. As for the hostile Mamool'ja, they can mostly be found out at Bronze Lake patrolling about outside The Wanderer's Palace. Their levels range around from 36-39. Link to comment
Naunet Posted August 12, 2013 Share #31 Posted August 12, 2013 Some serious miqo'te hate in this thread! ;.; I will not be ashamed of my choice...! Honestly, I really don't like female-only races, so I very much hope Viera never make it into ARR, unless they make males. What I would really love to see is a dragon-like race, similar to the aman of TERA. Roegadyn just don't cut it for me in terms of massive, powerful women - not like my fantastic amani ladies in TERA. I will miss them. [edit] Oh, or some kind of beast-type race (like the wolf picture on page 2, or whatever), but the females should not be freaking super models with boobs. >_> If they do a bestial race, I'd love it to be done a la charr from GW2. Desmond Aryll Posted August 12, 2013 Share #32 Posted August 12, 2013 Fran is one of my favorite FF characters so I would definitely welcome the Viera, As far as introducing males. They can go the "mean" route they eschewed with the Miqo'te. Push the dimorphism to the limit. Huge leg muscles, noticeable teeth, longer ears. Badass bunnies. Automatic Dragoon candidate right there. Link to comment
Orlog Posted August 12, 2013 Share #33 Posted August 12, 2013 I will not be ashamed of my choice...! Shhh, it's okay. Just because there's a differences in opinions doesn't automatically mean that there's shaming going on. Link to comment
Hywel Pendragon Posted August 12, 2013 Share #34 Posted August 12, 2013 I remember this poll, I had voted for the viera-like race. I've always enjoyed the lore of the viera people and think of them as being very different from the miqo'te. They actually loose a piece of themselves when they leave the Wood and as time goes by their soul's seem to gray, which is evident from the darkening of their ear tips. Despite there being male viera depicted in the lore of the race, SE thought that it would be too 'weird' to possibly have male viera as an option for ARR. Which I think is rather silly, especially since they finally added male miqo'te to the list. Other than having the viera, I wouldn't mind seeing a burmecian/clerian inspired race from FFIX. I've always had a love for Freya. Or perhaps a race inspired by the ronso of FFX. Link to comment

Kyatai Posted August 12, 2013 Share #45 Posted August 12, 2013 As a FF newbie, I don't know any of these races. I -would- like to say that if they made Miqo'te more feral and 'tough' I'd be a happy player. My Miqo isn't a sex-kitten... don't really like living under the premise she is based on her race or the fact she's tribal. Its a different mindset... that is all. She's not submissive and believes there IS more to life than being a kitten-makin' machine. Kinda makes me think the Miqo'te are FF's version of the Twi'lek from SW... only with less slave RP. *coughs* Oh and props for TMNT reference. I used to love those guys when they first came out (the CGI ones now make me cringe). I even painted a drawing I did of Donatello on the back of my little brother's jean jacket way back when... erm... well I devoted time to my artwork. *blush* Link to comment

Hywel Pendragon Posted August 12, 2013 Share #48 Posted August 12, 2013 I just enjoy the more feral look about the Viera, more than Miqo'te. They have the lankier limbs with clawed hands and feet. ...but I also like this version with the huge floppy ears too. Link to comment

These guys would be like buff Elezen, but without the weird proportions! Also, do Viera have bunny tails too, or is it just the ears? (This'll be my first FF title, so I've never really seen much outside of XIV's website. ) Link to comment

It's been a long time since I've played XII. Most of the images I've seen they appear to be tail-less. Link to comment
