Bale Andros Posted September 29, 2010 Share #26 Posted September 29, 2010 As bizarre as this might sound, and this isn't quite on topic, I've gotten most of my roleplay in Ul'dah right outside the Adventurer's guild, while sitting on the stairs across from the Gate of Nald. Even if its the "unofficial" crafters' corner, sitting there instigating roleplay has gotten me a fair share of positive responses and I've met some great people that way. Otherwise, I'm not sure what to suggest for a hotspot in Ul'dah, it seems most areas get heavy traffic. I think I'm going to go searching for such a place tonight. There's many areas I've yet to visit in Ul'dah. In Limsa Lominsa, however, on the top level, there's this dead end with the statue of a (seagul?), overlooking Limsa and the Marauder's Guild. Its out of the way and looks amazing. This could be a nice meeting spot too. Link to comment

For Ul'dah, around the Gladiators Guild, before you head down to them, there's an area that looks the arena which could be used as well. People does pass by, but it doesn't seem too terribly busy. Kejira Posted September 29, 2010 Share #28 Posted September 29, 2010 Figured this ought to be brought back up, since it's relevant what with the recent release, and has some ideas sprawled out already from beta. :> ( That, and I totally spaced on the last post dates. <_<; Should prolly just merge the other thread into this.) Gridania doesn't really have much that is out of the way. Most of the paths get fairly heavy traffic. The only places that are usually pretty dead seem to be the festival grounds, and that little pond south-west of the Lily Hills. I tend to hang around those two areas. The Mih Khello's Amphitheatre (1-5) is a really beautiful place and as you say usually pretty dead ^-^ Link to comment
Merri Posted September 29, 2010 Share #29 Posted September 29, 2010 Oh! The big old mosque in Ul'dah. With the shrine dedicated to Nald in it. (The name escapes me.) That place has a really, really soothing ambiance to it, what with all the incense burners and how quiet it is. At least, it is if you turn off Ul'dah's music. Link to comment
DAISHI Posted September 30, 2010 Share #30 Posted September 30, 2010 Behind the tents at Camp Blackwood! I think that's the camps name. Anyway, that place is nicely cut off, behind the tents, from everything else. You can take your honey there on romantic nights.! Link to comment

Kurb Posted October 5, 2010 Share #32 Posted October 5, 2010 Aside from the upcomming hotspots how would you spot an RP'er.Is it just a case of putting names to avatars in game or do we just walk along in walk mode like I used to do in WoW.I tried going by names e.g. what I thought was an RP name was my face red  cause it was a regular gamer Link to comment
Loonymonkey Posted October 6, 2010 Share #33 Posted October 6, 2010 Walking, and useing custom emotes are 2 sure signs that someone is a rper. I dont go by names b/c im going to turn them off here ina'bit, to block all the seperstrife cloudtifa's . Make first contact is all I can say at this point, even if your RP'ing a reserved emoish toon, ask for directions or just stare at ehm useing the /em function. Itll get attention and you can always com. useing tells. Link to comment
Volkai Posted October 6, 2010 Share #34 Posted October 6, 2010 Walking' date=' and useing custom emotes are 2 sure signs that someone is a rper. I dont go by names b/c im going to turn them off here ina'bit, to block all the seperstrife cloudtifa's . [/quote'] Actually not sure signs. I've done both without RP having anything to do with it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. For example in FFXI, long before I'd ever heard of The Lights Templar (or the concept of an RP LS) I was adding "/em assumes an aggresive combat stance" to my Berserk macro. I'll admit that it's a fairly good sign -- probably even odds or better -- but it's no guarantee. Make first contact is all I can say at this point, even if your RP'ing a reserved emoish toon, ask for directions or just stare at ehm useing the /em function. Itll get attention and you can always com. useing tells. Who calls them toons? (Sorry, pet peeve of mine.) Seriously though, doing something like asking directions is probably a good course of action. Or you could just be blunt about it and ask if they RP / are interested in RPing. Link to comment
Freyar Posted October 6, 2010 Share #35 Posted October 6, 2010 Who calls them toons? (Sorry, pet peeve of mine.) People who started up playing MMOs and RPGs without a level of belief in their characters. The term "toon" devalues the character and the intricate relationships and situations that he, she, or it is involved with. Hence, a "cartoon", or completely two-dimensional character. Whereas people who play WoW without an RP intent refer to their characters as Toons, I referred to mine as a "character", because that is what he, she, or it had. Link to comment
Loonymonkey Posted October 7, 2010 Share #36 Posted October 7, 2010 It is used when talking about ones character, people used toon way back in UO. Semantics aside. Sure it may not be 100% fool proof, but in the event that its not an rper, id think the person would be interested in rping and an olive branch should be extended >_>. Link to comment
Chisae Posted October 10, 2010 Share #37 Posted October 10, 2010 Does anyone RP in gridania? (lol yes I know this isnt facebook). I RP In Gridania, though my hours are bouncy and I have 3(4?) characters I jump around on. However if you ever see a Vaelyn Nykah on, feel free to bother me. --------- Sadly for me and hotspots, I have names turned off, so I just have to go by anything that may happen in the text box, then if I can't locate the person by tabbing around, I'll turn names back on to see if I can find the elusive white text name.. and once I do, I tab em, then do a quick /names, and then see if I can join in. Popolink Posted October 14, 2010 Share #39 Posted October 14, 2010 Best sort of hotspot is, hands down, an establishment like a tavern. Everyone drinks and eats! With enough willing people, some to run it and some to drop by frequently, it'd be well on its way to become a popular place. So come, come-hither, waiters and waitresses! :cat: Link to comment

(lol yes I know this isnt facebook). I will most definitely add you as a friend, and anyone else who wishes me to do so! I'm making a list of people, so next time I'm around I can add those people to it! And I roleplay anywhere *grins* so Gridania, Ul'ah, Limsa Lominsa or even the far off, tucked away and sealed off Ishgard. If there's people around, I'll be there to chat them up! Link to comment
Kurb Posted October 15, 2010 Share #41 Posted October 15, 2010 I spent the last while sussing out game mechanics as well as lvling my crafts (which sucks btw ><).Chomping at the bit to RP.ATM I'm out in the middle of nowhere near LL though feel free to FL me Link to comment
Ghunzyr Posted October 15, 2010 Share #42 Posted October 15, 2010 I know none you folks spend time out Mysidia way, but if you do you can find me round Limsa. It's no secret I frequent the forges and Drowning Wrench, although the pirates keep a decent bar too. I don't much like to spend more time on ships than needed, but if it means meetin folks, well, I could make an exception. Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted October 17, 2010 Share #43 Posted October 17, 2010 My guild spends a lot of time in the Miner's Guild and other Taverns at the moment - thought mostly the Miner's guild - because it's way easier to get to know each other in "tavern rp" We've met a lot of cool people from other guild's that way! ArmachiA Posted October 19, 2010 Share #47 Posted October 19, 2010 We had a troll in the miner's guild the other day. Kept saying we weren't our characters and we were lame. We just went along with him "Yes, so lame" "We aren't our characters!? Blasphemy" he eventually got bored and left. Link to comment
Satisiun Posted October 19, 2010 Share #48 Posted October 19, 2010 It would honestly be nicer to see more people around Gridania. Between the lower floor of the Adventurer's Guild/airship sitting area, the amphitheater, and the several alcoves that you can hang out at (the northwest one before the Conjurer's Guild, for example, as well as the scenic spots by rivers and ponds), you would think that there are enough places to invite activity. I find myself a little frustrated that Ul'dah seems to be becoming this centralized hub of activity for the most part, both for OOC purposes and IC purposes. From an OOC standpoint, it means that finding RP in areas not Ul'dah becomes difficult. I do see a fair bit when people bump in to each other at Aetheryte crystals, but other than that ... And from an IC standpoint, my character is basically hard-wired to not only despise Ul'dah and both wear a mask/be discreet/not be himself while there, he triply dislikes the Miner's Guild for its seedier practices. So dragging him to what is apparently the most popular spot right now is a total breaking of character. Link to comment
Nel Celestine Posted October 20, 2010 Share #49 Posted October 20, 2010 if it makes it any better, the miner's guild has been empty the last two nights when I went to check. Link to comment
Nira Muzyka Posted October 20, 2010 Share #50 Posted October 20, 2010 We did some stuff in Limsa last night for a change of Scenery, I think the tavern will wind up most popular on weekends(so the games world becomes even more of a reflection of ours, DUN DUN DUUUUN), and the other area's will see some love, we just need to figure out some area's where we will all have a fairly good reason to want to visit so we can actually get stuff started.
