CrimsonVonSanguine Posted September 2, 2010 Share #176 Posted September 2, 2010 A revote will put us in the same mess' date=' we would just end up picking another "pretty" or "popular" name. If we vote on anything, I'd say we vote on investing someone with the responsibility of picking a server and discussing some pros and cons with the community :3[/quote'] Not necessarily. The reason why everyone picked the name they liked most at the start is because we had precisely zero information as to what groups were going to what servers. We had loose guesses based on mapping bosses to games to cities, but those only panned out to an extent. (IX's boss server was Necron, I believe, and who in the world was rolling there?) Furthermore, there are several cities who didn't wind up getting any initial votes, and as a result they never had a chance once Lindblum and Besaid started approaching critical mass. In other words, I think the initial vote (and quite possibly the final vote - I'll abide by the results with due diligence) went with surface qualities because we lacked any other meaningful criteria. We have more meaningful measurements to go by now. Actually, the News Room thread regarding server selection did an admirable job of keeping track of which communities were going to which servers. The fact is, most voters just didn't care. Which is no surprise. But even ignoring that, once we do have more information regarding the servers, and we do get an idea of where would be best, doesn't necessarily mean the majority of voters will select that server. I dunno, it just seems a little silly and unnecessarily bureaucratic. Link to comment
Satisiun Posted September 2, 2010 Share #177 Posted September 2, 2010 The full list is back up once again. And that is all that matters. I got to confess, I sort of get this "Oh god it's doomsday!" vibe at the moment from some people. The server vanishes for, what ... a half hour? Maybe a little more? And suddenly it's the end of days, Democracy is bad, and so on and so forth. Chillax, folks. I apologize if I am overstepping any sort of rank boundaries since I'm just a lowly voter and not a member of the council, or someone who has 100+ posts, but put things in perspective. We're 20 days out from actual release still. Give things at least a couple of days to see how things go, if servers are actually "full" for more than an hour, and let cooler heads prevail. Jaytyr Posted September 2, 2010 Share #178 Posted September 2, 2010 booo I am on campus so I can't log in and poke it with a stick to see what server has what population or make a character yet. Have my code.. just can't log in from school. The only problem I see with a re-vote is that A) it may have the same results B) It said we wouldn't re-vote. I still say Gysahl ftw, but thats cause I am a nerd. Either way I go with whatever you guys decide. In the hypothetical situation that we would have someone pick for us I think we all know who it would be hehe Cast ftw >.> Link to comment
Aveline Posted September 2, 2010 Share #179 Posted September 2, 2010 (you know, the whole 20 they said they were going to have?) While I'm pretty sure they will add more, S-E has never said they definitely would, though if you can find an official source please correct me if I'm wrong. The only thing they've said about the number of servers is on the beta tester site: Information on worlds that will be available in FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test has been posted. *New worlds may be added depending on the number of participating beta testers. falcolas Posted September 2, 2010 Share #182 Posted September 2, 2010 Even if they open with 40, they will likely consolidate them down to 10-15 before a year passes. Total tangent, but WTF is up with the constant use of the non-word "Chillax"? Makes my eyes bleed to see that. And get off my lawn! WRT forms of voting, democracy is the least efficient way to govern a body. Not to mention, usually over half the voting body disagrees with the "majority", so you never get a concise direction, and there's always dissent over the results. A benevolent dictator is the best option (though the most susceptible to corruption), with a republic being the next best choice (our council). Try phrasing the poll results it this way: 66% of the roleplaying population does not want to play on Lindblum. Doesn't sound like such a popular choice for a server anymore, eh? Sorry, lesson in politics concluded for the day. :study: Link to comment
Kylin Posted September 2, 2010 Author Share #183 Posted September 2, 2010 If the Lindblum disappearing act was just a glitch and has been resolved, someone needs to check how many chocobos it has (indicator of population). For now, our best bet is to continue on with the poll as is. Although there's now a tiny possibility that we won't be announcing it to the fan sites yet. We'll have to see how it goes in the next few hours. If not though, we have the newspaper teaser pretty much ready as a "consolation prize" for the fan sites >.> Depending on the circumstances, we can always reevaluate everything before final release. Character data gets wiped anyway and name theft is near impossible unless someone is intentionally be a douche. Link to comment
Soren Miren Posted September 2, 2010 Share #184 Posted September 2, 2010 2 Chocobos for Cornelia and Lindblum atm, 3 for Figaro and Mysidia. All the others at 1. Edit: And Besaid gave birth to so many great characters, qq. Link to comment
Siben Posted September 2, 2010 Share #185 Posted September 2, 2010 Lindblum has two chocobos. I just got in and made Siben. Figaro and Myshaujkasdfbk have MAXIMUM CHOCOBOS Link to comment
Rhio Posted September 2, 2010 Share #186 Posted September 2, 2010 Lindblum appears to be at two chocobos, with Mysidia and Figaro at three, and I believe one other server at two. Link to comment
Tadir Posted September 2, 2010 Share #187 Posted September 2, 2010 Relax, let the poll finish. Everything will be fine. It's just a server. And as Castiel says, at least the newspaper teaser is pretty much ready. Link to comment
Asyria Posted September 2, 2010 Share #188 Posted September 2, 2010 Oh well, sucks for Mysidia, then.. We don't want a full server to start on! Go Lindblum! Funny fact: I been playing FF IX again, after downloading it on my ps3 and just got out of Lindblum after the Festival of the Hunt. Link to comment
Selyne Posted September 2, 2010 Share #189 Posted September 2, 2010 My linkshell is a little impatient and wants to decide tonight on their server. I'm already making them hold off. There's no way I can make them wait until the 15th for an answer. I'm definitely not in favor of that. However, they originally wanted to play on Trabia. I pushed them to switch to Lindblum because it looked like that would be the winning RP server. But everyone is complaining about how Lindblum is way more crowded, full of people in the starting zones, and the server has already crashed. Link to comment

Asyria Posted September 2, 2010 Share #191 Posted September 2, 2010 Funny how more people are agreeing with what some of us said from the start about voting being a bad idea. Dooooooooooooooooooom! Anyways. Lindblum's in the lead, there doesn't seem to be any huge server-filling groups going there so far... All's well. My only hope is we don't need an overflow server. Frankly, I'm against the idea of having an overflow server. If we end up needing one, we need to reevaluate our options, I think. The goal of the RPC is to unite RPers, I'm sure it can be done without splitting them (us). But that's just me thinking about the worse. Let's not do that. Let's think about the best. That is, us making our immovable home on whichever server wins and RPing happily ever after. Link to comment

The only thing that would suck if we needed an overflow server is by the time our server got full and needed that it would be all the ps3 owners having to go to the overflow server if that happened, which I hope it doesn't. Like you said Asyria is the goal of the RPC is to unite the RPers. Link to comment
Soren Miren Posted September 2, 2010 Share #193 Posted September 2, 2010 By the time the PS3 version hits, server populations should be settled and overcrowding a non-issue. I believe we're more worried about organizing folks for the first two weeks, and avoiding queues for the first three months. Link to comment

Kylin Posted September 2, 2010 Author Share #195 Posted September 2, 2010 The idea behind an overflow server is to just provide a temporary solution until something else can be worked out. I wouldn't expect it to remain an "overflow server" for long. The population of the game is likely going to drop within the first few months and servers will likely level themselves out. I'm sure quite a number of people will quit after their free month is up and they realize this isn't the game for them. The fatigue system may work to our advantage in that regard  Link to comment
