Ozak Kuzak Posted September 2, 2010 Share #201 Posted September 2, 2010 The idea behind an overflow server is to just provide a temporary solution until something else can be worked out. I wouldn't expect it to remain an "overflow server" for long. The population of the game is likely going to drop within the first few months and servers will likely level themselves out. I'm sure quite a number of people will quit after their free month is up and they realize this isn't the game for them. The fatigue system may work to our advantage in that regard  Yeah I bet your right Castiel. I know when I tried WoW for the first time I only played for the free month after that never went back to that game. Link to comment
Aveline Posted September 2, 2010 Share #202 Posted September 2, 2010 I started ranting to Mason about this in IM but realized I probably should just say it here instead. :3 I honestly do not understand all these attempts at strategizing which server is going to have what groups and how populated they are going to be. This is a free open beta in the calm before a ton of high ticket games get released this fall. Of COURSE every gaming community & their granny is going to be trying out FF14. Chances are, at least 50% of them are also going to be gone by the time CE is out on shelves. Along with FFXIV at the end of September, all of these games are set to be released within the next few months: Halo: Reach Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Fable 3 WoW: Cataclysm (maybe/possibly) Fallout: New Vegas Call of Duty: Black Ops And 4Chan? A threat? Really? They have the collective attention span of an adolescent goldfish. It's highly unlikely that they are going to stay together as a huge group on one server beyond open beta. I apologize if this is coming off as overly snarky, but I just do not see the point in wasting so much energy making newsroom updates about who is going where when really, the server populations are going to in all likelihood look completely different come Sept. 22. If we really want a server that is more low-pop and easier for everyone to access, IStory (TM Apple), Kashuan, and Ghysal will probably be our best bets, for the 300 or so of you who haven't voted yet. But who knows? Maybe at the last minute a bunch of linkshells will have the same idea as us and rush Kashuan. Link to comment
Koti Nexus Posted September 2, 2010 Share #203 Posted September 2, 2010 My linkshell is a little impatient and wants to decide tonight on their server. I'm already making them hold off. There's no way I can make them wait until the 15th for an answer. I'm definitely not in favor of that. However, they originally wanted to play on Trabia. I pushed them to switch to Lindblum because it looked like that would be the winning RP server. But everyone is complaining about how Lindblum is way more crowded, full of people in the starting zones, and the server has already crashed. They do realize that during Open Beta, all we get to hold over to live is our names yes? We will have to remake the characters again and we will have to do everything again. So to get to overly fussy on it is a bit silly. Along with FFXIV at the end of September, all of these games are set to be released within the next few months: Halo: Reach Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood Fable 3 WoW: Cataclysm (maybe/possibly) Fallout: New Vegas Call of Duty: Black Ops Don't forget Front Mission Evolved! Siben Posted September 2, 2010 Share #206 Posted September 2, 2010 Funny how more people are agreeing with what some of us said from the start about voting being a bad idea. Funny how lemmings follow the lemming directly in front of them right off a cliff too, right? ;D Link to comment

It's a longstanding myth. And, hey, sometimes things sound like a good idea on paper and work poorly in practice. I wasn't opposed to voting, I'm still not, but I do think there are ways that the implementation could have been changed. If I'm outvoted, I promise not to throw a tantrum in the corner. ^_~ Link to comment

Were it up to me they probably would've remained hidden for the entire poll, or until the last hour or two, at least. But it's not up to me, and I'm okay with that. Link to comment
Kylin Posted September 2, 2010 Author Share #213 Posted September 2, 2010 I can't help but laugh. I originally wanted the results hidden the entire poll. But nooo. Everyone wanted to see. I originally wanted the poll to last 3 days so we'd have a better grasp on other communities. But nooo. People wanted it all done quickly. Tsk, tsk. Never doubt your forum god for he is all knowing  I'm of course just messing with you all. Sort of. Link to comment
Satrina Posted September 2, 2010 Share #214 Posted September 2, 2010 Isn't Lindblum currently rated the highest population server right now with most groups going to it? >.> Link to comment

Aveline Posted September 2, 2010 Share #216 Posted September 2, 2010 Cas, can you set it to allow people to change their vote? I'm not sure if that would make it easier or more complicated, but either way the vote would be ending at the 24 hour mark. Link to comment

I agree, I think it's silly, too, but I'm one of my company leaders and I have a large number of people to keep happy (not an easy job). I already had one person go off on me when we suggested that we would revisit our server choice before launch and make sure everyone was happy with it. He's so stressed out about reserving his name he doesn't want to switch servers, no matter what. Even though he played in CB and knows full well that the probability of someone taking his first and last name combination is next to impossible. >.< Long story short, once my linkshell puts up its vote, it's gonna be stick with the choice come hell or high water. They're ditching Lindblum for now and going back to Trabia because they say it's too crowded. Link to comment
Ozak Kuzak Posted September 2, 2010 Share #218 Posted September 2, 2010 So now my question is are we going to suck it up and try Lindblum' date=' even though it looks to be one of the most crowded, do a re-vote, or have Castiel decide? [/quote'] I'm sure more voting isn't the answer but I vote Castiel decide :cheer: Link to comment

And that may actually be a good idea...It wouldn't impact anything -negatively- at this point. The forum god is pleased and will grant your request for a change of vote. First, a miqo'te virgin must be sacrificed though. :ahriman: Check the poll again guys. You have until 11pm eastern (5.5 hours) to get your individual votes finalized to what you want it. Rhio Posted September 2, 2010 Share #224 Posted September 2, 2010 A vote change sounds fantastic!!! I concur, and it solves lots of logistical issues. The option is not showing up for me, for some reason, but I voted for Trabia in the first place. Link to comment
Noelle Posted September 2, 2010 Share #225 Posted September 2, 2010 I think someone said it earlier (infact I know they did, I just can't remember who), But wouldn't it also make sense to pick the server with the lowest votes? since it is the least popular? Link to comment
