Eva Posted September 2, 2010 Share #301 Posted September 2, 2010 ^ Reductio ad absurdum. I disagree. The server is going to populate normally during the natural progression of things. But even if it was, this is a RP community. Just because your stance towards RP is casual and you are more focused on progression than others might be does not necessarily mean that's the focus of this vote. My understanding was that this vote was to determine which server would serve the best interests of the RP community as a whole. That's my vote and I'm sticking with it. Link to comment
falcolas Posted September 2, 2010 Share #302 Posted September 2, 2010 Even if things didn't die down' date=' I'd rather wait for a login queue once when I login after work rather than spend an extra 20-30min finding a group.[/quote'] I couldn't disagree more. From experience, more players leads only to bad things: griefing, lag, and overcrowding. Sure, you might be able to find a group a bit faster, but that benefit is strongly outweighed by the penalties (particularly since groups are no longer required). And personally, if the difference is between waiting 30 minutes to log in, and waiting 30 minutes for a group, give me the latter every day. At least I can spend that time doing something in the game. Low pop servers have terrible economies and no progression. The serverwide economy is already tanked due to the lack of an auction house. Even progression is a no-op given the current direction the game is taking. Let's look at the benefits we really want for this communtiy - a good environment in which we can promote roleplaying - before we look for qualities the game doesn't support yet. Link to comment
Diyne Posted September 2, 2010 Share #303 Posted September 2, 2010 I like how Lindblum is just not on the server lists, by the way. Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted September 2, 2010 Share #304 Posted September 2, 2010 And it's in my oppinion that the RP community can benefit from a medium pop server, not a low one, especially in a crafting community that will rely heavily on others to get things done. A low pop server has a disadvantage here, since SE really wants people to rely on each other. Link to comment
Mycroft Posted September 2, 2010 Share #305 Posted September 2, 2010 Lindblum might not be extremely popular, but from what I'm seeing on Core it'll be filled to the brim.. Half of the big companies are going there, the others are going to Mysidia and a few to Besaid. This is of course only the current tendency, and will most likely change upon release. Link to comment
Trizzip Posted September 2, 2010 Share #306 Posted September 2, 2010 Lind or Besaid....either way, there is no way to get a clear indication on what the future holds for these servers. I remember when PS2 launched for XI and it brought in a huge wave of new players. I would know....I was one of them. Now, once PS3 launches in March, whatever you 'think' you know about a server could drastically change. Since the PS3 release will probably be the last biggest wave to roll onto the servers at once, they'll also be the most educated in knowing what server to pick. PS3 players could very well fill in any low-pop servers with ease. Link to comment

Didn't we just address you claiming low-population for Besaid as a risk while also citing that all servers will be equally populated? Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted September 2, 2010 Share #308 Posted September 2, 2010 It doesn't matter much to me where we roll, I'm just trying to say everyone is being highly paranoid and assuming the worst. Soren, that's not what that means. It means exaggerating an argument and then criticizing the result. Link to comment
Soren Miren Posted September 2, 2010 Share #309 Posted September 2, 2010 As are you, then. Edit: And forgive the mistranslation, then. I'm happy to concede that I usually assume the meaning of semi-familiar non-english words Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted September 2, 2010 Share #310 Posted September 2, 2010 Not really, I just don't like low pop servers. It's my oppinion, I'm not trying to actively get to people to stop voting Besaid like some are doing for Lindy. Link to comment
Anamie Posted September 2, 2010 Share #311 Posted September 2, 2010 In Aion most of the RPers sat in the Tavern. This happened in WoW too. RPers aren't really known for their progressionist mentality. I'm not going to be one of those types. While I may take my time some, and stop to smell the roses, I would like to take equal time for progression. Would like to be in a LS/Guild that is all for bettering themselves, obtaining new/high level armor, weapons etc. and not just sitting around talking all day. Would love to RP WHILE progressing. <3 That would be great. If I'm not getting something accomplished, I get booooored. Link to comment
Soren Miren Posted September 2, 2010 Share #312 Posted September 2, 2010 Not really' date=' I just don't like low pop servers. It's my oppinion, I'm not trying to actively get to people to stop voting Besaid like some are doing for Lindy.[/quote'] I'm fairly certain you and I are doing the same thing, promoting our reasons for one server choice over another without actively telling people to stop voting one way. In fact I believe the only person who asked people to stop voting for Lindy was Castiel, and that was under the former voting system. Link to comment

By repeatedly pointing out how poisonous they would be for a progression based community, while not addressing their value for a roleplaying community. Link to comment

ArmachiA Posted September 2, 2010 Share #315 Posted September 2, 2010 Then I haven't been saying it right because I am not promoting a certain server. I just thought the "Lindblum is so popular we gotta move!" was odd. Link to comment

Faust Posted September 2, 2010 Share #319 Posted September 2, 2010 I wish I could change my vote now so that it would actually matter, but honestly the extent to which I care about which server we pick is the extent to which I think one town from the FF lore is cooler than the other. In which case, I would pick Lindblum over Besaid, personally. Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted September 2, 2010 Share #320 Posted September 2, 2010 Look, I'll change my vote to Besaid since that what it seems everyone wants to do. I just want everyone to know I don't see the reasoning behind it. CB will be changing our votes to Besaid. Link to comment
Koti Nexus Posted September 2, 2010 Share #321 Posted September 2, 2010 Here is a request from me: Could we all get along and stop whining, complaining, and going on like lost survivors on an island? Come on people! This is open beta, things will change 2-3 months when the game goes live, and we just need to stick to our guns. I support whatever the RPC chooses, I will go where ever the RPC goes. This is for the future of the roleplayers, for the future of this community, and for our enjoyment. So buckle up, sit back, and deal with whatever may come our way. We will shape whatever we get, populated or not, so long as your willing to keep your foot to the gas and moving forward. So again, could we all just get along and stop all this fussing, and maybe.. agree to disagree or something? Cause from an outside POV, this thread ain't lookin' to friendly. Link to comment
Eva Posted September 2, 2010 Share #322 Posted September 2, 2010 I plan to focus on progression as well, as I spent a divided amount of time in FF11 between endgame content and RP (most anyone who knew me on Sylph can vouch for this fact). That said, I still feel a low-pop server would be a more comfortable environment for RP and I don't feel that endgame would suffer as considerably as some are suggesting. That's my opinion on the matter. I realize some agree and others disagree. To change gears a bit, I've been extraordinarily busy at work today so I haven't been able to keep up - I know at one point it was mentioned that there would be 20 servers. Has anything further been released about this, or was that just a rumor? It'll all be over soon Cast... Link to comment
