Hello!

I am completely new to the Final Fantasy mythology, although I did enjoy reading the Bannable Offenses blog about the previous FF MMO. I decided to grab ARR since it was on sale right now and I've heard some positive things about the re-release.

I've played a variety of MMOs (although WOW was not one of them), LOTRO being my main one due to my love for the lore. There is an end for all things though, so I'm looking to explore a new setting. I've always played on the unofficial RP servers for all my MMOs. Although I usually stick to just light RP I find those servers are usually populated by a more mature community.

Anyways I started a character on Balmung, and currently just trying to pick up all the new mechanics I'm unfamiliar with. How open is the community to new players? When do groups start playing a large role?

Regarding real life, I am in the military, currently stationed in Japan, which is probably the biggest impediment to consistent playtime. I'm not looking to steamroll through the game, rather just take my time and enjoy the sights.

Thanks for reading, and I hope to play with some of you guys in-game!

Howdy and welcome!

I think you will find the RP community quite open, check out the forum for places to RP and events. Find some of the RP linkshells (LS) that may suit you and maybe even check out a few Free Companies (FC - like Guilds).

Lore wise there is less that LoTR (clearly), and I would say there is a main story arc and superficial to light lore on things. This allows you to not be tied down so much and gives room to fit your story in from mundane to epic.

One area you might want to read up on is the race lore, especially naming.

Welcome to the RPC! The community on Balmung seems very welcoming of new people so I think you'll settle in nicely. Groups tend to not be needed unless you're doing lots of FATEs or obviously when you do a dungeon.

Since you say you're in Japan, I just thought I'd mention one of our officers in The Travellers Guild also lives there so at least one of our events each week are at hours more friendly to your timezone. We also have quite a few players who are on during your evenings, both in Europa (an OOC/LFRP linkshell) and TTG.

Hope you have fun and feel free to add me to your flist in game!
