I vote for anyone to make a thread with such a list! It'll came in handy, especially for future RPs. I'd love to play any scene with a pirate or a criminal as well. Bhara> In that case, my character might know her from seeing her around often. Not sure if Clover might get to know her name, but at least her face would be a familiar one. Not all pirates are bad, after all (I think... *doesn't really know*).

I'm not really playing a character who could get involved into the kind of life your characters have, but reading this thread has left me thinking. My main character (a hyur girl) has spent the past 5 years living in Limsa Lominsa, so if there's any well known pirate or criminal who hangs out there, she might have at least heard about them. This is just in case you want to be known ^^

A Trial and Foraging [Backstory, Hipparion Tribe RP]
Clover replied to Torvhan's topic in Town Square (IC)
Like the rest of the Miqo'tes that had gathered to greet their sister, K'mih was lost as to what was going on. She didn't bother them with questions, though. Rather, she merely watched how her older sister K'nahli left in search for the elders, and how K'ailia led K'mana to her mother's tent. The identity of the new Miqo'te was still a mystery, but she guessed that she'd learn about the situation in due time. As for now, all the young Miqo'te could do was wait with the rest of her friends, without interfering. -
Clover had seen this before, hadn't she? Though it hadn't been quite like this. Not quite, no. She'd read stories of princes, brave warriors fighting enormous beasts; their lives always on the line, their ending always victorious. She might have witnessed a few unpleasant quarrels between pirates in Limsa Lominsa, violent scenes of nonsensical decadence. And none were like this-- not this raw, animalistic, intense. Painful. Ah, perhaps this was what her parents saw, what they felt in that far side of the world. She even tried to imagine it in her small trance, wide eyed, motionless, still unable to remove her gaze from the grotesque scene. Her mouth was open, yet no voice came out of it; it was just in her mind. "Move...! Move...!" Just in her mind, as in those books she always read. He was down on to his knee then, bleeding, defeated. The Ixal beast had a clear advantage over the hyur, approaching him like an executioner willing to inflict the final blow. The final page of that small story was about to be written in front of Clover's eyes. Would she just watch like a mere spectator in a macabre function? Or would she reach out with her arms one more time, no matter how futile it was? Her eyes closed, her hand moved the branch slightly once more, calling upon the elementals to hear her soundless voice. The ground shook again, more violently this time, until a small yet protective wall made of stone and sand emerged between the beast and its prey, making the former lose its balance. "Stand up!" And this time, her voice did come out of her throat.

*Nods* I'm aware of that. I've always enjoyed in-game RP, but I've never encountered such a difficult chat system before ;_; It's not very RP friendly from what I've seen. I agree that events are really chaotic (especially with this chat system), but they're also the best way to meet other RPers, and to be a part of the RP as a whole. I'd be disappointed to miss them.
-
This is making me wary of RPing in-game >_< I only tried it once, and while the event itself was a lot of fun, I noticed that the chat was the most confusing thing ever. Now this... I think I'll stick to the forum for the most part, unless there's any event.

A few travellers looked out from the carriage with clear worry in their features. Others, a mother and her child, took cover on the carriage's floor, unable to watch the scene or even move. The presence of more Wood Wailers felt like a ray of hope for them all, albeit Clover couldn't help but pay attention to the lone warrior from her side. He'd bravely killed one of the beasts, the first one to approach them, only to be targeted by two more the next moment. The girl squeezed the handle of her knife, aware that nothing much could be done against the Ixal's large spears and swords with such a petite weapon; she might be dead before the tip of the short blade reached any of them. On the other hand, her knowledge in elemental magic was still quite limited, but perhaps there was something she could do to help the warrior. Even if just a distraction... As quickly as she could, Clover reached inside her bag and grabbed an old, small branch. Her arms stuck out the carriage then, branch in hand, and with shut eyes she started concentrating. Right when both beasts seemed ready to attack the white warrior, the ground cracked and moved underneath one of them, giving him a brief struggle not to lose its balance. It might not have been much, but perhaps that'd give the warrior some time to make a move on the other beast.

That'd be so cool! Meeting a Dragoon is something that would help his story a lot, so I think it's great if the Dragoon is a real character like yours instead of a random faceless NPC he could make up for the sake of plot >_< The problem with my friend is that he's too embarrassed to RP in English (we're both Spanish), but since this would be a backstory and not a scene he'd have to RP in real time, I think we could make it work perfectly well. I'll PM you about it to work on the possible details if it's alright. Just for the record, in case you ever see him in-game, his name is F'yue Tia. I wish he was more willing to learn English and even post in this forum, as I feel he's going to miss out on a lot...

Thank you again for the reply! I feel that I have a more clear idea of the situation now. Since I haven't seen the whole game yet, I didn't know you couldn't visit Ishgard. The idea of him simply going to Coerthas and doing his best to learn and train, hoping to be accepted in the ranks someday, works perfectly well. What matters isn't actually if he's officially a dragoon but that he's working hard to become one. So yes, I'm relieved to know that his context can work ^^ As for his reasons to be so passionate about Dragoons, from what I've understood, the first seed was sown when the powerful Bahamut almost destroyed Eorzea. Most of his tribe was wiped out that night, so my friend's Miqo'te sees dragons as the biggest threat. We're also considering the possibility of him eventually meeting a real Dragoon, who might become the figure which ultimately inspires him. There was nothing he could do during the Calamity; he was just a small, insignificant being. He regards the Dragoon army as the strength he lacks, and as the ultimate way to defeat his personal enemies. In the end, my friend's character is still an idealist who has a lot to learn.

“Woah!! What’s this?!” The traveling man jumped on his seat, violently startled by the arrow that happened to land really close to him. Clover’s eyes opened wide, alarmed, and took a quick look outside the carriage. It was then that she saw them emerging from behind the brushes, wild and untamed, aiming to destroy their enemies. “Ixal beasts!” She yelled, informing the other travelers of the danger they’d have to face. The rest took cover the best they could, albeit the open carriage made them quite exposed. “Let’s just go!!” The traveling man raised his voice for the coachman to hear him from the front seat, but as much as this one would have liked to go ahead as fast as possible, a group of beast men were blocking the path. “Damn…” He grabbed a dagger he’d hidden in one of his boots, readying himself up for whatever could happen. A small grin crossed his features when he noticed the hyur girl with a small knife on her hand. She looked at him with a deadly serious, slightly nervous expression. “I really hope you know how to use that.” She'd never had the chance to use it before, but that wasn't what he wanted to hear. Her hands weren't shaking, at least.

Thank you for your reply! Though, I admit I'm still slightly confused. My friend's Miqo'te is not a Dragoon. He simply wants to become one in the story; you could say it's his main goal. Just for the record, neither he nor I want to spit on the lore. Quite the contrary, we love playing within the correct context. I just wondered if a character eventually joining the dragoon ranks was a possibility, even if they weren't born wherever it is that most Dragoons have been born in (?). If the lore itself states how they're training people up, even if some of them are foreigners, then perhaps it'd work? If not, then I guess he can at least try and have his dream denied. I just want to be certain that it's absolutely impossible, otherwise, spitting on the lore would be for him to be unable to join the Dragoon ranks, while other strangers are.

A Trial and Foraging [Backstory, Hipparion Tribe RP]
Clover replied to Torvhan's topic in Town Square (IC)
"K'nahli, K'nahli!" A very young K'mih ran to her sister's tent, looking for her. Her tone was excited, as was the light in her eyes. "K'mana is back! She did it!" The 13 years old Miqo'te could barely wait for her sister to come out; she hurried up to join all the other curious Miqo'tes who wanted to welcome the huntress. Oddly, K'mana didn't come alone... -
I thought that there was a legendary Dragoon that was more special than the rest, but there's still an army of, uh, "generic" Dragoons, at the lack of a better word. Can't any player imagine that they're just one of the many Dragoons that form their army? Or is it that Ishgard doesn't accept foreigners in their files? Perhaps I misunderstood, but I read somewhere that Ishgard was opening itself a bit more since it needed more people (?). (And just for the record, this is not about me but about a friend who wants to play a Miqo'te who joins the Dragoon army. I'd like to know if it's completely impossible for him).

I hope I can come! This is a very nice idea ^^ Now I need to figure out what character I should come as.

((Obligatory ooc note: Please excuse my English m(_ _)m)) The weather was kind that sun, allowing for the trip to Gridania to pass mostly uneventful. Sitting silently on the carriage, Clover’s eyes remained glued to a landscape that had been slowly changing. The dry, orange lands of Thanalan disappeared little by little, welcoming the green and brown. Green and brown and blue, like her childhood memories. “Is this your first trip to Gridania?” The voice of a man who’d been sharing the traveling carriage with her could be finally heard, claiming her attention for the first time. She turned her gaze towards him before replying with a soft shake of her head. Albeit she wasn’t smiling, she didn’t mean to be impolite either. “I see. It’s the best place to spend a few relaxing days in my opinion,” he commented with a very friendly tone. It was alright if the hyur girl was reserved-- he could still smile for the two of them. The rest of the passengers of the small carriage were asleep, so she was the only candidate that could keep him some company, bored as he was. “I wish I was here on holidays, though! But you know, business always take priority. How about you? Why are you here?” “I’m just… coming back home, I guess…” she replied after a very brief pause, keeping her eyes on the stranger now. She prefered it if he told her more about his story instead of asking about hers. The conversation was simply more interesting that way. “Ohh, that’s very nice! You see, sometimes, I certainly miss having a home to re—“ His words were abruptly interrupted by a masculine voice demanding for the carriage to come to a halt. It was easy to recognize an elezen Wood Wailer, perfectly armed with his characteristic Polearm. Clover’s traveling companion gave her a nervous smile, before turning his attention to the approaching soldier. “A skirmish has broken out up ahead with the Ixal! For your own safety, you must remain here until—“ His warning had been clear even before he could finish the sentence. A threatening arrow, impacting directly against the carriage’s wood, alerted everyone.

I'd deffinitely appreciate that. I stopped trying to farm the Acolyte set when I learned that its default green colour was permanent (>_<) (unless I'm mistaking the set and you're talking about a different one *sweatdrops*). Also... does anyone know if the Coliseum set can be dyed? I was under the impression that it couldn't be, but yesterday I saw a screen of the cloth version in pink colour. That left me wondering.

Unless I've completely misunderstood you, that's what I think, too! It's not that my character is more important than me or that the RP is more important than players. I just enjoy the story I develop, and I don't find it enjoyable if everything is carefully planned. Getting surprises (not just from romance but from anything) is part of the RP excitement for many people, after all; just the way we play.
-
I understand both opinions, and I think both ways are valid, for both have good reasons. As for my personal preference, I like letting the RP flow naturally, and I like RPing with people who also do this. The only case I've metagamed my character's feelings was when the other player suddenly decided to ignore his character completely. Luckily, our characters weren't a couple, but he did things that were important to my character and then disappeared after 4 days of playing. I won't stand for my characters to develop any sort of important bond towards a character who isn't actually alive; if the players themselves won't give their character any sort of importance of thought, neither will I. Other than that, I'm up for experiencing whatever emotional war the RP gives me, if any. It's just a matter of preference and situation, though; if I were in a bad emotional situation irl, I likely wouldn't have the stomach for being hurt in the RP as well (and RP can hurt A LOT, I'm fully aware of this). Edit: Crimmera> That's a funny example, but I don't think it reflects the kind of RP other people spoke against. In your example, the player is simply making their character realize that they have no chance there, and thus they're taking their leave ICly. The problem some people mention is the player realizing that the other character won't love their character back, and thus imagining that their character had never had any sort of feeling towards the other, even if they did. Both cases as different, as dealing with your feelings ICly is in fact going with the flow.

Category A: You, OOCLY 1. Are there any any races you particularly love the opposite (or same) gender of? The models, the history, the lore, anything. I LOVE the bishounen kind of male Miqo'tes and male Midlanders. It's no surprise that I'm in love with the only two races that allow the bishounen appearance; the other ones are either too manly or too silly for me to find them physically attractive. Lore is always interesting to me, no matter what the race. 2. How do you view interracial couples in -game-? Specifically, let's not get into a debate about whether or not it's 'gross' to you as a person or if there are too many people doing it. So long as it makes sense, people can do whatever they want. 3. Do your OOC feelings towards a particular race make you more open or affect what your character is looking for when they're either flirting around, pursuing romance, or just, in general, acting differently towards those individuals. Well, my characters don't flirt nor they pursue romance ^^; However, my personal feelings towards certain races mean that, in case my main character ever fell in love with someone, it'd likely be with a race I personally like (mostly because she doesn't fit with any bulky, hairy man *sweatdrops*). As for my secondary character... Sunseekers are weird by default when it comes to romance, since romance simply seems forbidden. This is why I don't think she'd be limited to any race in particular, regardless of what my personal feelings are. Category B: Your character 1. Does your character seek friends or partners based predominantly on race? My characters don't seek romance. Clover is a solitary person, and K'mih is a tribal Miqo'te who has been taught that she'll have to breed with the Nunh someday, so it's not like she has any kind of a choice. Naturally, she initially only has Miqo'te friends from her Tribe. 2. How does your character view interracial pairings and are their feelings different from your own? -Clover: She might be surprised or shocked in some cases, but ultimately, she doesn't really see any reason for it not to happen. As far as I know, hyurs don't have personal issues (and if they have, please let me know, as that part of the lore is unknown to me). -K'mih: She's been taught that any serious relationship outside her tribe isn't good or recommended. I imagine that she'd be very shocked if she ever learned about the existence of any interracial pairing, and it's likely that she'd try to understand why such a weird thing happened.

I've seen many kinds of Miqo'tes ingame, so I haven't been under the impression that they tend to be portrayed in a sexual way. One of them was a courtesan, alright, and another one was a Captain (or some sort of high rank) in the Maelstrom GC, and another one was a studious arcanist, and a long etc. I also remember a quest where I had to gather the Costa del Sol dancers, and I swear that I saw girls from other races there (?). I do understand if sex had less taboos in the Miqo'te society, or if their taboos were different than ours. They are a completely different culture, one I don't necessarily understand or share. I think I've said it before, but I can't play my Miqo'te girl as if she was saving her first kiss for the love of her life like a human girl would do, since that's not what she's been taught; in fact, she's been taught to breed out of obligation someday, since romance plays no role in her culture. This doesn't mean that I have to make her breed with anyone, or that I have to play her as a sexually open girl (quite the contrary, she's very innocent!). In the end, everyone will play their Miqo'tes as they see fit *nods*. I just mean that they might not even see being a prostitute as something shocking or immoral. I'm personally not troubled that a very small number of Miqo'tes (out of many) might be portrayed as prostitutes. Even if they were a majority, I still wouldn't be troubled because that's how lore is.

I've only read the beginning of the post linked, b-but... it sounded like common sense to me @_@? Any kind of emotional scene (be it about romance or about anything else) is naturally going to require some emotional writing. I actually have yet to see anyone RPing things of the sort "he saw his best friend's dead body and felt sad"... *laughs*. As for my views on romance (I mean romance, not ERP!), I'm not someone who actively pursues it. Just like real life, I simply wait until any character impacts and inspires me. I actually have never RPed an original character in an active relationship, as the love my past characters have experienced was difficult, twisted, and quite impossible/platonic. I doubt they'd even engage in any simple and easy relationship for the sake of it; I rather search for meaningful (for good or for bad) bonds with other characters. In any case, I still don't know what will happen in FFXIV, if anything. I'll just let the story flow and see where it takes my characters!

Ah, only Limsa Lominsa houses will be available? I wanted to live in Gridania ;_; On the other hand, this will give me more time to farm my money, which is a very, very slow process for me.
-
...!!! This is terrible, I hope they'll fix that! In the meanwhile, retainers will take care of them, I guess. I always love getting vanity items, so I took many screens. This is the only time I enjoy summer and even a beach: inside a game. Clover K'mih (I love the back ribbon >///< )

I had a lot of fun, my Miqo'te even made a new friend *amused*. Thank you for organizing this. I'm looking forward to more events in the future.

Coliseum gear is so cool! I've been trying to power level my Miqo'te to 45 just to wear it (>_<) I have a question, though. Is it very hard to obtain? It sells for obscene amounts in the market, so I'm worried.
