Same deal here. Haven't been able to get in all morning. Ran the auto-key scrpit for a while, but eventually the NA servers stopped showing up on the login.

Has anyone found a weaving leve that leads to and extended contract? I've not been able to find one, including 1~2 of the lvl 20 ones.

That's great to hear! Yes, fortunately (or perhaps UN-fortunately) we've have postponed the yarn-spin until further notice due to the server woes. So don't worry, you didn't miss it! I'll try to keep this page updated with info as to when we'll have it.

During this period, the Worlds listed below will be unavailable. As we previously announced on the “Regarding the Instance-Related Issues (Aug. 24)” announcement, we will be conducting maintenance to address the issue wherein players are unable to access instances. While we previously stated that we will be optimizing the servers prior to the emergency maintenance, we will require additional time to also implement counter measures to decrease the load on the servers. While we estimate the time frame of the maintenance to be around two and a half hours, we will do our best to complete the maintenance as soon as possible. For those of you that haven't you should take a look at registering to The Lodestone website, there's some great functions on there and it allows for tracking friends, linkshells, free companies, and achievements while not in game.

Fantastic advice here Rock! This should allow for a streamlined start once the servers are back up. With maintenance estimated to last a few hours it should give those of you who are having creation woes plenty of time to get those creative juices flowing and have a brand new character waiting for you

I do too! I'm playing on PC but many of my friends and Linkshell companions are not! Hopefully this will stay handy and most of the issues can be avoided until they get a fix in. I think you're right, it's fairly standard and I appreciate Square-Enix letting the errors be known prior to login.
