We had one of these threads long ago. At the request of Uriah_Nool I'm starting a new one. I figure we have gone far enough out, and hopefully will have enough new people coming in, that it's time for a new introduction thread. That said, Hi. I'm Tadir. I'm a 3D animator and defense contractor living in Washington D.C. (Well, the DC metro area.) I also happen to look a bit like the main character of the ads and cinematics. Please, reintroduce yourselves for anyone who wasn't here for the original. Happy Friday.

The 'Oh god help!' Wiki Coding/Editing Support Thread.
Tadir replied to Satisiun's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I went back and forth a few times wondering where this gap you were talking about was, then I scrolled down. I thought your page was done. Nope. HUGE gap. -
Thanks. I've been looking for that too.

Down with the underscore! Let only the overscore reign supreme!

Appearance Height: 6'1" Weight: 180lb Body: Athletic, but not overly muscular. Strong legs, weak arms. Hair: Brown Eyes: Green Skin: Well tanned Clothing: Slacks and a nice shirt. Although they are nice clothes, they tend to be wrinkled and smudged with ink or dirt in places. He sometimes wears a hat. History Tadir was born in Gridania to James and Oak West, the owners of the Westward Map Company. Originally conceived as a cover for an illegal smuggling trade, making and selling maps gave them the perfect excuse to travel everywhere to sell their wares. The Westward Map Company never traded goods directly, instead they would sell a map showing where the illicit goods were securely stored. If anyone else came across the map, it was just a map. This worked well for many years and was very lucrative. When Tadir was born they decided to go legit...more or less. Tadir moved to Limsa Lominsa as soon as he was able and attempted to pursue his passion of the time, journalism. After reviving the Tonberry's Lantern news sheet, he played the part as long as he was able. Unfortunately, his father fell ill and he was forced to return to Gridania to care for his parents and take over the running of their now (mostly) legit cartography company. While there he married his long time companion and bodyguard, Kimiji Mur'zunni (now West) and has spent the past five years learning the cartography trade and preparing to start his journey with his wife to update the company's cartographical reference materials. Personality Fears: cats, not miqo'te, just cats. Talents: Writing, Wordworking, Map Making, Exploring, Picking up women, spending time with the wife. Likes (hobbies, foods, etc): Fishing, Sailing, Water, Seafood, Fruit, Beer, Wine, Liquor, Women, Wife, Writing, Airships, Magitech and Chocobos. Loves: Anything cute. Obsessed with cute things, Kimiji West. Dislikes (pet peeves, prejudices, etc): Missing deadlines, being late, vegetables, being landlocked, deserts, bad grammar. Affiliations The Westward Map Company Unaffiliated with any linkshell at this time.

It keeps telling me I'm in the wrong region. Is this not for the US?

Happy actual birthday.
-
No! You don't get a happy birthday! You get a mildly acceptable day of birth and you'll like it! ...happy birthday...fine...pfft.
-
Gerik! Happy birthday! I'll say it again tomorrow! Ya know, when it's actually your birthday! YAY! WOOOOOOOOOOO! Sorry. Happy birthday. I hope you are doing something fun out with friends away from a computer. If not, I hope you have some damn good RP going. Enjoy it.

I. Basic Info Characters: Tadir West, Kimiji West Primary character: Tadir West Linkshells: Currently Unaffiliated Primary RP linkshell: See above II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Heavy. Prefer to stay in character at all times. Views on RP combat and injuries: RP combat is fine, but must be played through discussion beforehand. Any serious injuries must be discussed and approved by both parties. Views on IC romance: Character is married so...not a lot is going to be happening there. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Of course! Why else would we be here if we weren't in support of RP? Views on lore: Very important. Creating a character that can live in a world is essential. Suddenly being an imperial stormtrooper from the mushroom kingdom doesn't work in this world. You don't have to know every bit of lore, just enough to keep you from making major mistakes. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Say and linkshell should be IC at all times unless denoted with ooc marks. /party I am flexible on. It's not always practical to stay in character in party, so either way works for me. III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Eastern Standard Contact info: Contacting me here is your best bet.

As Tadir wasn't at the final battle, (He was with his ailing father. His father got better.) he wasn't teleported into the limbo zone. He has his history for the intervening five years. (A lot happened for him.) There is actually a thread somewhere about what everyone's characters were doing if they weren't ...uh...saved?
-
That's a really good point. Weaknesses make characters interesting and fun to play. Tadir, for example, is miserable in a fight. His wife, on the other hand, started as his bodyguard. If she's not around he will get his butt handed to him. It makes for much more interesting roleplay when I have to figure out a way to get through a (RP) situation without resorting to violence at all. (Especially when he tends to drink a bit too much while fishing.) So I agree with that. Working lack of skill and character flaws into your character makes for a much more interesting, fun and believable character.

Will miss not knowing more of the original story
Tadir replied to Niteshade_Rune's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I'm still waiting for a writeup of all the main questlines and whatnot. I want to know what I missed! -
Hah! Pretty well. I discovered another FFXIV player last week in this area. Girl comes up to me and says, "You look like that final fantasy guy." Real descriptive, I know, but then she followed it up with "fourteen." That was fun.

Woot! Virginia boy! I'm from NoVa! Welcome to the game!
-
Well, since my character hasn't been really played in two years, I have no problem rerolling (which I will probably end up doing anyway, unless I can transfer my character.) That said, I totally understand being unwilling to start over on a character you've spent years on.

No reason you can incorporate the singing magic into the healing skills he already has. Or do you mean healing skills as in a medical doctor? In which case, sure, there is nothing wrong with adding a bit of magical melody.
-
Oh Nonsensicles...you so silly. Welcome back Hart! Here's to hoping the new version is much easier to gain experience in than the original launch. (That was a mess.)
-
Welcome back. That post count thing was a bit embarrassing to realize. I spent WAY too much time here before launch. Anyway, welcome back! I'm really stoked about the new version of the game. If you're ever looking for someone to party/rp with, look me up. Tadir is currently running the family cartography business (good time for it) so he always has an excuse to get pretty much anywhere in the world. I'm sure we can set something up.
-
1 -- Stayed home in Gridania taking care of sick father 2 -- Begins taking over the administrative side of The Westward Map Company 3 -- Learns cartography / Marries assistant, Kimiji 4 -- Work and adjusting to married life. Tadir learns of the less legitimate side of the family business. Kimi starts teaching Tadir how to fight...slowly and painfully...it's not going well. 5 -- Makes the decision to set out to update the WMC's maps to the new geographical state. Begins making preparations for the trip. Tadir and Kimiji will be setting out on their journey as the new game goes live. The fighting training is still going extremely poorly.

They managed to create a really great world. I hope the rebuilt world feels as nice.

Thanks Eternal. It's heartening to see so many people coming back. I have a few friends who rp who might be checking the game out again when it relaunches. I'll see if I can get them to stop by.

I would have rather had the thermos/map/whatever.

I totally forgot about the nation certificates! I think I did get mine, though I have no idea where it is now.
