1. I missed the August 18 get-together because of 3102. Now it looks as if I'm going to miss this one, too. I was on this morning and things were going swimmingly. I figured I'd hang around, questing, FATEing and whatnot until time for the party. Sadly, I got booted about an hour ago and can't get back. I'll keep trying -- my character is at The Alehouse. I don't know how to get to the party from there, but I'm sure, IF I can get back on, I'll figure it out. This is so disappointing/frustrating. This is no way to run a business.
2. Unless there's some sort of miracle in the next few hours, it'll be a no-go for me. I've been 3102'd for over 13 hours now. Have fun, y'all :cactuar: <---- that's me, trying my hardest to get there, but not getting anywhere. Or maybe it's me throwing a tantrum .
3. Same here. And when I retry, there's no indication that the character was ever created (or named). I hope I can use the name I (finally) came up with and that the system doesn't consider it "used" already. Oh well, try and try again, eh? ----------------------------------------------- And right after this post posted, I got it! Yay! And promptly crashed, error 10102. /sigh It's going to be that kind of morning, I guess .
4. C'io, you're absolutely correct. I was trying to come up with something on the fly and my examples should have been more "observable" or "actiony" (for lack of a better word). It's been a while since I was involved in hands-on RP and I'm a bit rusty. Sorry and thanks for the comments!
5. For me (and of course, I can only speak for myself), having to ask permission, or being asked permission, is sort of a buzzkill. I try to roll with whatever is presented. Having to start out with OOC permissions would break the rhythm of the scene. In my opinion, if it's being done in public, across /say, it's pretty much fair game. If I'm not sure whether my character would be welcome in a scene, perhaps I might emote around the players in question. /em strains to hear what X and Y are saying. /em notices that Y looks upset. Or, perhaps my character might mumble to herself, loud enough for them to hear. /em mutters under her breath /say Oh dear, that Roe looks upset. Oh! Did I say that out loud?" Then, it's up to the other players to either ignore my character (at which point she might /say Oh, I guess they want to be left alone) or draw her further into the scene. In that same manner, I'd like to think if I were in a scene and someone started emoting nearby, I'd try to react and incorporate them in somehow. All that being said, I might shoot the other player(s) an OOC /tell during incorporation if clarifications are needed. Otherwise, just roll with it and see where it goes.
6. Being new to town, "Amiabelle" does not yet have a place to call home. For the time being, the owner of the local chocobo stable has allowed her to sleep in the loft above. "Ami" is not at all fond of the smell, and it is somewhat warmer than she'd like, but it is cozy and surprisingly comfortable. "Amiabelle" falls asleep quickly and generally awakens refreshed. She is a side sleeper and doesn't move about much when asleep. Although she's loathe to admit it, "Ami" is a light snorer. "Ami" hates it when people (or animals) drool while asleep. She is saving her gil to purchase a proper home
7. Woohoo!!! I'm in! And oh, my word, thanks ever so much for the video voyage in the wayback machine! Memories, memories... Of course, now that song is stuck in my head...
8. /bow Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! And I stand by what I said earlier -- once I have a clue as to what I'm doing, I'd love to help out! Even if it's just standing at the door, saying "Hi!" to everyone who enters .
9. Not sure what I have to do to sign up (I suppose I'll find that on the SA website), but as soon as I figure it out, I'd love to be part of this group! Question: can a character's first class be a crafting class or must everyone start as an adventurer for 10 levels? In beta, everyone was required to start with Adventuring. Will that be the same at launch or will there be more leniency with starting classes?
10. I'm definitely looking forward to Limitless Sky and Coalition. I don't see a Linkshell description for Coalition -- did I miss it somewhere? I don't know how the pearls work, but once I get my feet wet and get a better understanding of game systems (and geography), I'll be happy to help out.
11. Ami enjoys people-watching (one of her favorite activities) and is frequently observing people and their mannerisms in hopes of being able to use them in her character developments. Additionally, when she was a child, a troupe member introduced her to the art of Archery. After a very brief stint with the troupe, he moved on; no one knows where he went. Ami would love to find him to thank him for instilling in her the love of Archery. FWIW, the chances of finding him are small. In the back of her mind, Ami knows that. She doesn't remember his name and can barely remember his face. Still, she holds out hope because she can be stubbornly optimistic at times. Other than that, Ami's not sure what she's looking for, and neither am I. We'll find out, perhaps, once she gets into the world?
12. One tiny suggestion: is it possible to make it more apparent which server-group tab we're looking at? Could, perhaps, the selected tab be A) brighter than the other two or B) larger than the other two?
13. "Amiabelle" (not her actual name) is a member of a long-running troupe of traveling performers. She's the daughter of the company's founders. Since the Company is currently at their home base (I'm not sure where that is) for the off-season, "Amiabelle" is striking out on her own, doing research for characters and getting show ideas. CAPA sounds like it might be right up her alley!
14. It's as if you read my mind. The one additional thing I wanted from the Linkshell index was a way to tell which ones were affiliated with which servers (without having to open each one). Matter of fact, I had thought about posting it as a forum suggestion. I was hesitant because I'm so new here . In any event, thank you, thank you, thank you! Excellent work!
15. Beautiful, Yaein! I especially liked the line "...the dirt in my fingernails served as bookmarks...". Thank you for sharing your work!
16. I. Basic Info Characters: To be determined Primary character: To be determined Linkshells: To be determined Primary RP Linkshell: To be determined II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Medium to heavy. When we say "heavy", I assume we're talking talking about the amount of time IC vs OOC, not necessarily how heavy or involved the drama is. Views on RP combat and injuries: I don't think I have experience with this. Is this dueling? None of my characters has ever accepted or participated in a duel. Views on IC romance: If it flows naturally and is done tastefully, I'm all for it, assuming both players agree. I'm also assuming that any IC romance will not interfere with or upset either party's RL SO. Additionally, I don't particularly like to see characters getting all hot and heavy in public channels -- if it comes to that, take it to /tells, please. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): I've never RP'd family and, for me, I think it might be too complicated. Any relatives of my characters have always been my creation (often my alts). Views on lore: I like to adhere to lore as much as possible for my own RP. I enjoy doing research to determine whether my characters' actions/words fit. As far as other players and their adherance to or deviation from lore, I'm pretty lenient. I'm so new to XIV, I probably won't know if what others are doing/saying is lore-correct or lore-wrong, anyway. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): I generally consider /say as IC. I often stay IC in most other channels (unless, of course, there are specifically designated or generally accepted OOC channels). I generally signal OOC comments by enclosure: ((message)). III. 17. Thanks, Eva. That's the way I've been accustomed to doing it in other MMOs (and I agree, it looks a bit awkward ). Maybe, after they get everything else sorted out, the dev team can work on a way to do this. Can't imagine it's high on the priority list.
18. Wonderful news about the facial expressions/mouth moving emotes. That will be fun to play with and watch! Speaking of emotes, is it possible to do custom "apostrophe s" emotes? Such that the text would read something like: "Amiabelle's hand shakes uncontrollably as she reaches for the quill".
19. The only caveat to that second point will be that a non-legacy character will not be able to actually display in game the marking on his or her back which all those who time warped would have. I feel that this is somehow important to the story for reasons that have not been made clear to us yet. Is it possible to just RP that your character has the marking on his or her back even though it's not in game? Of course! But I just thought it was worth making note of this tidbit from a game perspective. Thanks for bringing that up, Eva.
20. Nuh-uh. Only those at the Battle of Carteneau (specifically, with or near the adventurers) were time-skipped. Those who weren't there weren't. There's actually a difference between the two cutscenes; in the non-legacy intro cutscene, your character wakes up on a cart that you've been riding on and a merchant comments that you're experiencing Aether sickness. You didn't just pop into that cart; you've presumably been riding in it with the merchant and some twins for a while. In the legacy intro cutscene, you literally pop into existence and walk into your starting city.
21. Sorry to dredge this up but I guess I'm still hazy on a few points. As a non-Legacy character whose adventure is starting fresh with XIV, there are things about the opening scene that still confuse me. Please see if I'm understanding this correctly: All player characters were time-skipped, regardless of whether they are continuing from 1.x or are starting new. No exceptions. All players are part of the skip. That is non-negotiable and is the significance of the out-of-body opening sequence. It is left to the player, of course, to decide why the character was at the scene of the Battle, how she got there and what she was actually doing at the time. Maybe she was fighting, maybe she was just passing through, maybe she was entertaining the troops, maybe she was delivering supplies, whatever -- those details are up to me, the player. After the out-of-body sequence, when she comes to, does the character have any clue as to why she is in the carriage? Does she remember the Battle? Is she aware that she was time-skipped? Does she know what has transpired in the world in the past 5 years? Or is she coming to as if awakening from a deep sleep? Does she know the fate of friends and family? Does she remember them (I know civilians may or may not remember her)? Sorry for so many questions. It might have been easier for me if the game had started with a recap of the Battle as opposed to the out-of-body part but I'm sure I'll sort it out (with your help!). Thanks! ~ Ami
22. I'm glad you asked about this, Sekatsu. I, too, wondered about the "scripted" RP. I've been away from online RP for a while and wondered if this was some new development (or if it was specifically FF-related). In the past, most of my RP has been of the go-with-the-flow style. I remember one time, however, when a player decided to delete a character and set up an elaborate death scene, inviting other players to "witness". Since most of the participants knew the outcome in advance*, I suppose that could be considered "scripted". Am I correct in making that assumption? *There were some players who just happened to be in the area and didn't know what was about to happen (you could tell by the comments they were making), but fortunately, they sort of went along with it. Who knows, that may have been their introduction to RP!
23. This was an excellent, although very difficult, exercise! Thank you, Vash, for starting this thread. I now have a much better picture in my mind as to who my first XIV character is, even though I'm still not settled on her name. For the time being, her name will be Amiabelle For-Now. I tried to be deliberately vague on some details because I wasn't sure how much I could disclose. NPC names, places, events, that sort of thing. And, in some cases, I'm still somewhat hazy on lore: what events transpired when, who knows what, who was where and how they were affected. I hope I haven't gone overboard. I assume there are things I've gotten wrong. If you happen to catch some inconsistencies, let me know. Please be gentle with me -- it's my first time. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------:chocobo:----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The tall, elegant woman smiled and stood up from her desk as Amiabelle For-Now entered the office. She seemed genuinely delighted to see the young Hyur woman. "Come in, Ami. Please, have a seat." Amiabelle nodded as she took the seat on the other side of the desk. The older woman sat back down. "You're not nervous, are you? You know this is just a formality, dear. Before inducting new Adventurers into the Guild, we're required to conduct this little interview. You completed your trials -- quite spectacularly, I might add. You've had some time to get to know us and what we do. This is our opportunity to learn a little more about you." Amiabelle smiled. She still looked nervous. "I understand." The older woman chuckled and reassured the younger one. "You'll be just fine, dear. Just answer honestly and let that bubbly personality of yours come on through. Now, shall we get started?" She pulled a thick book and quill from a desk drawer. Amiabelle took a deep breath, settled into her seat and nodded. "Let's."
24. Thanks for the welcomes! How nice!
25. (NameTBD) is a writer performer. Primarily, she acts, sings and dances, but she also plays a few instruments. Currently, she aspires to write the Next Big Stage Production, thus spends a lot of her time doing research. Until that happens, however, she'll be earning her living as an Archer, with a bit of Conjurer on the side. ------ updated because she's evolving as I work on the 100 Questions .
