  1. Looking for: Tribal Seeker RP Timezone: EST I've got a city-born miqo'te that could use a refresher in regards to his tribal roots. He's an offshoot of the Vipers but I'm not concerned on who picks him up. Heck, I'd be satisfied to collaborate with just one tribal practicing Seeker. Mainly, I'm curious to learn how other people play and adapt Seeker lore while giving my character a bit of a developmental arc. I understand Li'ur might face some distrust and hostility at first and I'm absolutely willing to work out beforehand how he could build a tolerable reputation around the tribal leaders. He's a stubborn thing so it'll take a bit of shooing for him to finally get the message. Please post in this thread if interested or just send me a PM!
  2. Alunshar may not be fat and wealthy but she does need an escort to keep her goods safe! A fellow Au Ra would be a bonus for her as well.
  3. Awesome! That'll definitely be a good start for my girl. I'll shoot you a PM once the excitement and jitters have gone through my system, and we'll see if we can work something out :>
  4. Alrighty, I've got a Xaela, Alunshar Domitius, who is looking to start her own pearl/oyster diving business. She's been hanging around in Eorzea for a bit but she's definitely new to Limsa and could use a mook or two to shuck oysters, look after her on the sea, and sell her wares. Potential business associates would be gladly appreciated as well as craftsmen looking to experiment with pearl inlay to fancy up music and jewelry boxes. Now, I'm not making it a secret that Alunshar also happens to be a Garlean defector. It's not going to be something she openly talks about but I'm hoping to have connections with fellows in the same vein--defectors, runaways, sympathizers etc. I'm also open to having rp connections with Garlean spies whether they're hostile or not. Lastly, Alunshar came from the Ejinn tribe but was separated from them as a child (Garlean kidnappers essentially). I'm not sure how many people here rp the Ejinn but I'm open to familial or tribeskin relations. In general though, fellow Xaela to rp with would be nice and Alunshar wouldn't be adverse to chat up a Raen. TL;DR - Oyster shucking mooks - Business partners - Garlean pals - Au Ra buddies I'm located in the EST timezone. Feel free to send me PMs or ask questions here!
  5. Please add Alunshar Domitius as a former Ejinn tribe member please.
  6. I'd be really interested in having my xaela girl be related or part of a tribe. Her backstory might be a little inconvenient though. I currently have it where her tribe was captured by Garlean soldiers when she was just a little girl, and she then grew up to be part of the imperial army. Circumstances surrounding Operation Archon labeled her a deserter though, so she's had to somehow integrate into Eorzea. A little bit of a mess to work through, but I think it'd be neat to have a plot that involves her at least attempting to go back to her tribal roots.
  7. Hence why I put in parenthesis that the tribal leaders didn't do anything about it since I agree they would be the ones to decide breeding restrictions. Depending on the size of the tribe and amount of resources, I'd assume restrictions aren't that uncommon among some, especially post calamity where even things such as climate got screwed up. But I'm not asking if a Nunh should be able to turn up his nose at a mate because he simply doesn't like them. I'm fishing for opinions and thoughts on how a traditional seeker tribe might handle genetic or hereditary diseases/disorders. If the Nunh is there to help provide healthy offspring why should he mate with someone whose ancestors had health issues that were certainly not caused by sickness or injury?
  8. Just gonna slip on in here and try to join the discussion of what ifs. After the quests in Forbidden Springs, the backstory I had for my character's mother wasn't going to hold much water anymore. I've been pondering for a bit, but pretty much the only thing I've been able to conjure up is hereditary disorders being the reason why the tribal nunh wouldn't mate with her (and why the leaders threw their noses up). Sooo then that got me thinking how Seekers would actually deal with something along those lines. Do the tribe leaders keep some kind of health record so they can catch unwanted traits or diseases? Do they throw the carriers of these out to the sandworms or simply let them live as much a life as possible? There's just so much of the inner workings I'd like to learn more of. Also, Li'ur always brings up he was never raised in the tribal lifestyle whenever the nunh title gets pointed out during introductions. He's just 'honoring' his dead mama.
  9. Friend and I are thinking about making Au Ra siblings but I have a feeling we won't be planning much until some lore and naming conventions come up. I've already drafted my character to be a gentle giant who cowers at the slightest hint of hostility. I'd really like to try keeping a background of having been treated really badly by the Garleans but we'll see if that sticks. Really looking forward to more reveals of this race.
  10. OOCly, I honestly don't think so but that's a matter of opinion and how it's set up. If we're talking ICly, then, yeah. Even though it's going to come across as weird, each character has their own reason for doing things, right? If W'akiba wants to keep ties to his original tribe, he can remain a tia or claim to be a nunh. Staying a tia could be more respectful to his deceased tribesmen while stepping up to nunh could be seen as arrogant. If he wants to restore his original tribe (even though it's difficult and likely to not succeed), he's gonna have to name himself nunh. The same goes for if he wants to make a new tribe. Although W'akiba would have to rename himself, he'd still have to claim himself nunh. Of course, he also has the choice of saying "screw it" and just not bother with the tribal stuff anymore. He could keep his name for his self or take up a completely different one to cut his ties.
  11. Then I apologize for directly addressing you over nothing.
  12. I believe you're response is geared towards me, correct? Never in my post did I promote paragraph emotes over one or two sentences with dialogue, I even wrote going over board was a bad thing. The topic was about using effective emotes to convey characters not necessarily a role player's skill level. It was never my intention to offend others, but I can't really help if you feel that way. Yes, novel writing and role playing are two different things, and you're allowed claim that as much as you want. However, role playing is still writing. You created a character, you gave them a backstory, and now you're writing their adventures based on interactions experienced within Eorzea among other role players. That is very much story writing. Me: "Show a message and get to the point rather than loiter on every little detail." You: "...the shorter and more concise your emotes, the more quickly the conversation flows." In all honesty, if feels as if you skimmed over my post, because we're essentially saying the same thing. The only difference is that you emphasize speed. "Fred frowns, and bows his head low. He lets out a loud sigh" should only take a few more seconds longer than "Fred was sad."
  13. My creative writing teacher always told us to "show the reader not tell them" our story/message. Even though that piece of advice went towards writing novels and the like, I find it very much has a place among role playing as well. "Fred becomes sad" sounds and looks bland. Plus, there isn't a whole lot of characterization in it. As a reader, I'm just being told Fred is sad. "Fred frowns, and bows his head low. He lets out a loud sigh" shows me how Fred is feeling. This shows a picture of what is happening while giving him more life. Yes, the second sentence takes more time to type, but the results are vastly better from a creative standpoint. It has more meat and flavor like a soup or stew, and every reader should prefer that over a broth made from skinny bare bones. Of course, a writer can run the risk of being overly descriptive, which can be as equally as dull as "Fred becomes sad." Show a message and get to the point rather than loiter on every little detail. A soup with too much spice loses its flavor after one or two spoons after all. On the subject of a character who doesn't display their emotions, you're right with using subtle emotes. A broody character could clench their fists, tense their muscles, sneer, etc. An introverted character could show more insecure emotes like hunching their shoulders, unconsciously play with their fingers, bite their lip, etc. Off the top of my head, the only time I think a character not expressing emotion being valid would be to purposefully convey they're eerie or otherworldly.
  14. If it helps, the info text that appears when I hover over my coeurl button says, "Summon your fleet-footed battle coeurl, trained from a pup to recognize you as a friend... not food." Obviously, not every rper is going to use that description as a means of how they acquired their coeurl, but that's at least one method. Like K'dath briefly mentioned though, one should do a bit of research into big cat training before deciding to rp their coeurl.
  15. I'll refer you to this thread: Link The Grindstone started offering tutors and apprentices for those who are interested in teaching or learning combat icly or oocly.
