Balmung's Finest: Community Dungeon Crawling Initiative
Jomoru replied to Rhylund's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I didn't find Wow's community have changed much before or after Dungeon finder. When I was with a group I knew, they were awesome. When it wasn't even if it was same server it was a coin flip. I got plenty of abuse with people from my same server tanks who couldn't tank shit, healers who couldn't heal shit, DPS who attack whatever they want and ignore Cc, etc The only thing DF cut out was "wait around 3 hours looking for group because I'm a mage" That's why I think DF is seen as so bad. You get to see more of Wow's community in a quicker period of time.. and alot of it is shit people. On the otherhand dungeons are always more fun with friends rather than silently compitent types who never speak up. -
what buffs are there for FC outside housing?
-
I know in other games I had alot more Faction on Same Faction Rpvp than cross Faction(Duels, rolls etc) Either because there was little reason for multiple Factions to interact somewhat peacefully(and thus build up connections) or they couldn't communicate at all(*Cough wow Cough*) I don't see why the personal Duels(either via PVP mechanics in the arena, or via other means) wouldn't continue here. As for the Lore on Larger engagements I believe its being called "frontier" so it would be like the Old west where people from different regions setup shop and squabbled over resources even if they were "all americans"(See the Lincoln county War for example)

What if you don't have contempt for the Duty Finder but would rather play with people you know? -
I've noticed afew setups where the FC was PVE/OOC while the LS was built to be the rp end. That seems to me slightly backwards. I mean the known perks I see for FC include Housing and that seems much more Rp rewarding than anything PVE rewarding. is there something I am not quite getting?

Is there any such thing as "too much" when it comes to a back story?
Jomoru replied to Moondoggie's topic in RP Discussion
In my experiences in MMOs and outside it having a long complicated backstory doesn't help, the character will find his or herown voice in play so its better to have a concept and fill in points as needed. This is I find especially worthwhile with connections to other characters in an MMO, its good to leave yourself some openings incase you change your mind on things or run into a player that just clicks with you in the right ways. -
I am saying Shite and Arse are clearly just accented versions of words and not theriown word
-
I ran my first 15 levels in LL so I saw a decent amount of real world profanity behind the accents(Guess what word Shite is supposed to be!)

Well as a Roe you do have to be a giant! Other than that the general gist I get of Hellsguard is the following. They intially broke with the rest of their race to master magic that was beyond them, while it seems the rest of the race has caught up, Hellsguard can still be a bit more magical than their kin(and they have better starting stats for it) They are natural adventurers(which is the mercenary thing) and are loyal to those who earn it. Since I doubt you're going to want to constantly be betraying people it seems like its not a huge thing. Hellsguard have bad ass Wuxia character style names. This is probably the most important thing and what I would say covers any "Oddness" in a character. Ultimately Hellsguard are individuals who want their greatness recognized by the world. IF they've found a new and different way to go, well so be it.

So after many hours of error three on an off i tried logging out of my account and logging back in.. everything went through

I try to come up with some reason to report Trolls and ignore them. It makes me feel better. :moogle: Yes, this. I normally say they've been using racial slurs, because honestly there's a good chance they have been.

Well we have 2 tanks, 2 Melee DD, 2 Healers, 1 ranged DD, 2 Magic DD. I'd expect Musketeer to fill in the second ranged DD if it gets a second Job maybe tank because ranged tanks are cool and Yoshi P says we need more.

Ah I'm sorry. My terminology is horrifically poor. It's not something important to my characters though really. I just don't want my character who doesn't use any form of magic to be really special and manage to learn or make any claims/statements that would imply he could learn if he chose to. If it was a widespread capability that simply requires training like anything else then that'd be fine, if not then I just wanted to know so that I don't make any mistakes in future RP ^^ Thank you everyone else for your posts, I appreciate your help. I think Conjurer and Arcanist don't require a special Gift per se but saying "anyone can learn magic" is like saying "anyone can learn brain surgery" less a lack of an innate "gift" and more a lack of mental aptitude. (Arcanists specifically seem to be almost a purely math magical system) Neurosurgery is an extreme. I was simply implying having the ability to learn magic as opposed to becoming an expert and not being limited. Put it this way, I was asking if learning magic is a matter of attempting to learn a new skill or attempting to learn how to breathe under water. I don't know your mathmatical history IRL so I'll use mine as an example. I never got past precalc I just couldn't grasp it. That's how I see Conjuring to an extent and Arcanist definately its a skill but a skill that requires aptitudes. Conjurers need to be able to connect with nature those who aren't very outgoing, those who close themselves off, those who aren't big on nature aren't going to be able to grasp the skill. And arcanists straight up use super complicated math to do their thing. So there's more than enough reason one might not be a mage even if its not like breathing underwater, its much closer to being able to do physics or something and most people can't do that.

My character arete sees herself as a Sage in training, while she might dabble in DOW classes DOm is her main stuff. I'll probably end up leveling DOW classes to see more stuff and well to get more options but I'll always rp her as not as good as a "natural" DOW member. Also the superhero who'd be "Good at everything" isn't Superman. Its Batman. He's good at every damn skill he could possibly learn. He's the "50 in all classes" guy. Superman's the player who decides he wants to Play Odin in a Tavern Rp.

Any of these character types out there for RP?
Jomoru replied to faceman7381's topic in RP Discussion
I know of one who's making it a big point to keep it as secret as possible so that he can dole it small hints here and there in-game, which I think is probably the best way to do it (otherwise you have issues with metagaming and the like). If you think about it, a true defector would try to avoid letting it be known as much as possible to avoid the very trust issues that you're talking about. Now that you know, you're going to have to analyze everyone you run into to figure out whether or not they may be a defector... I always assumed Cid didn't defect alone, one can't build an industry entirely by oneself. -

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Sage_(Final_Fantasy_III) Oh, excellent idea! Any special quirks and/or traits about your character? Are you just on a quest to master both magic types? She has taken the assumed Name Arete Sophoi because she doesn't want to be seen as another stupid "tribal" Miq(I figure with all the ages there was time for some period to have had a language in the past that was vaguely greekish). She's overconfident and probably not quite as smart as she thinks she is. She's working on learning all three magical arts with arcanist the primary focus(From the class quests its played as the most intellectual of the three magical arts). She definately thinks of herself as mentally primary that doesn't mean she won't dabble outside her quest goals but I am generally going to treat any time she's playing in any DOW class as weaker than other members who are more primarily that. That's generally what i have currently, I haven't had much chance to see how she'd play off of other rpers during the weekend. This sounds interesting. If you plan to play on Balmung maybe we can RP together to get a personality hashed out. I would like to try to RP with you. The sage concept is a good one! Yep I rolled her on Balmung, my desire to deal with the most populated server was not strong and I actually like High level peeps both from an rp sense as "Those are the guys in the know already" and from a mechanical sense. as for getting a personality hashed, its come to be my perspective that every plan I have for a character is quickly redefined by her interaction with others, they properly take on a "voice" once they have interacted with others. -
Best name I saw as in Phase 3. Cherri Poppins
-
Of course Gilgamesh is hostile. I mean he's an archer and doesn't want to be bard how would bard use gates of babylon?
-
Of course city based Miq are probably not exactly going to follow the ancient tribal lifestyles and might be prone to call themselves Nunh to say they are virile. With the push to the cities from the Calamity and the problems beforehand one might see the tribal society as.. dying.
-
My character Arete doesn't use her "real" name because she feels there's a slight bias against tribals as being backward vs cityfolk. So she came up with a name that she feels makes people feel she's exotic and wise and not tied to such things. She's actually rather insecure about the whole thing.
