  1. Well, look at it this way. The lore might be "vague", but it certainly doesn't point in that direction. Not only it doesn't mention that females are abused; the ones we see ingame are willing (one of them even complains that the Nunh is not performing his duties as much as she'd like (?) ); the lore also states that a Tia can leave the tribe and become a Nunh so long as any female is supporting him. Without their support, he's nothing. If anything, the lore seems to suggest that the opinion of females is not only important but also primordial. This said, the case of abuse seems unlikely, or not the norm. A different thing is people's personal fantasies; those are unlimited, and you could create a special tribe where the Nunh abuses the females if you're so keen on it! I am not saying All Seeker society is a systematic soul destroying system. I am saying that as the system exists and some people do exploit systems. Seeker societies are large and potentially quite diverse, allowing for a character to have a backstory where the system failed them thus they became an adventurer.. well that's pretty much the most basic run of the mill story for how someone ends up in such a path. As for the assumption that women hold all the power in the Nunh relationship. How much are you willing to put up with before you'd abandon everything you know, everyone you know to go off to an unknown place? Because that's honestly a point of last resort.
  2. I'd say he's just getting ahead of the game I've always assumed CNJ was going to get a Dps Job eventually.
  3. Nor does it change what has been explicitly stated by the devs. You folk need to stop letting your own cultural biases color your understanding of a society that is clearly not based around monogamy. It's highly disingenuous to distinguish Keeper and Seeker cultures by labeling them matriarchal vs. patriarchal, especially when the former culture is being OOCly misunderstood due to looking at it through the lens of monogamy-bias and rather inaccurate and misapplied comparisons to lion tribes. I am not talking about monogamy. I am talking about the real power of the position. Lack of holding official or even unofficial leadership of the grouping doesn't change the fact that he has power over determining the future generation. This can easily lead to all sorts of horrific abuses. Saying "Well he doesn't officially lead the tribe" doesn't matter then. I don't understand your point. Assuming it was a situation where the tribe only had one nuhn(which wouldn't be entirely ideal I imagine), then even if he suddenly got it in his head that he can do whatever he wanted because he has an important role, it doesn't change the fact that he can just as easily be replaced by someone less erratic and selfish. He's doing himself no favours by testing his luck and behaving however he wants. I don't see why a nuhn would be exempt from disciplinary action executed by the tribe leaders. Last thing he'd want is to get himself exiled for even killed just because he was feeling a little arrogant. You have some very odd concepts of how power works. You seem to assume that a tribal leader would have a level of absolute power that would make the Kings of France jealous. You also seem to think these people who've held onto their traditions are going to drop them casually because someone is a dick. So lets back up. The Nunh is a recognized position. It may not be chief, or Priestess or Godking or whatever they want to call the head of their grouping, but said person has real politicla power by dint of having a position. Can the chief punish him for being a dick? Potentially but if no one can challenge him they have to throw away their traditions in doing so. Could the chief turn a blind eye to abuses of power because the chief doesn't care? Also possible. Could their society decide even if a woman has no desire for sex with him force them because that's "For the good of the tribe" Could the biggest strongest Miqote male in a hunting ground be forced into a role he has no desire for because "its for the good of my people?"2 There's more than enough places in lore for abuses of power to occur, its not like Miqote are described as being super holier than thou tolerant types who value the freedom of others above all.
  4. I am not insulting the op. There is an assumption that certain character concepts are "Better" done as a Midlander. I want to know why? Midlanders aren't given any thing special. They have no unique culture, nothing to hang a story off of. What makes a Character a Midlander, what makes a concept intrinsically of a Midlander experience. That argument isn't to state that Midlanders have a certain background that many miqo'te are running with. Its simply because miqo'te are the closest visual comparative to midlanders(or hyurs) with the addition of the seemingly attractive, cat-like attributes. So as opposed to playing a tribal structure as the lore would dictate, many just came up with some excuse(don't read that as a derogatory plug) to play their miqo'te in a normal setting while simultaneously getting to be "the cat race". Had most miqo'te stuck to the lore then perhaps that statement wouldn't have been presented against the minority that still opted for the non-tribal lifestyle, but because there are rather few pursuing that setting its only natural to assume that some people decided to play a hyur('normal' character) with ears and a tail. That is my take on what people with that concept meant but perhaps I am wrong. I have no problem with a person choosing based on what they consider pretty looking. I want to know why someone would play a character with no lore hooks. Even the complete rejection of Lore hooks by a Miqote rper.. creates rp hooks to play off of. What especially baffles me is, that for once a game company decided not to use "generic fantasy human" as the players only option to play something human like. Highlanders have Lore, Lore that stands out. Lore that makes them special.

  6. For the second character you are really playing a garlean and game mechanics won't let you is that the case? As for the first is it you couldn't justify any other race having roots in Gridania? Is the character tied down to centuries of family hertige or just has "roots" there if so such has been the case for Miquote and Lalafell readily.

  8. Its turning the whole thing around, when people comment that someone is just "Playing a Hyur with cat ears" I am here to point out Midlanders have Nothing to make them special. There is no character concept that is "Midlander" in this game. My point is rather than trying to state the idea that Hyur are baseline(and that's not even true since Highlanders exist) Midlanders have been given nothing to make them stand out. Any concept that could be done as a Midlander can casually be done by any other race, why should one have to justify playing another race to get the same concept? Why shouldn't someone as readily have to justify playing a Midlander orphan raised in Limsa?
  9. As the forums have had this debate countless times in the past, I'm just gonna quote FreelanceWizard here with a little bit of added emphasis to counter what appears to be a misconception on the part of some individuals in this thread. There. All done! *wonders when people talking Seeker lore will ever discuss more than Nunh stuff* You cna quote it all you want, it won't change the distinct power structures around that sexual dynamic. Powers that can easily be abused.
  10. I mean there's nothing special about them. They are at best a "Me Too" for any of the nations of Eorzea they haven't built anything they don't have any special culture and to get the same background from any other race option you'd just have to be an orphan or something So why would anyone ever play a midlander when they could play an orphaned Miqote/Elezen/Roe and get the the innate flavoring of orphan status and uniqueness of being torn between two worlds. Why would anyone ever pick something so boring as a Midlander?
  11. No, in the U Tribe that is true. The U Tribe has a very worldy Nunh. There are many other ways it could spiral out. I am not saying every tribe could or shoudl have these issues but with 26 groups the size of say the cherokee nation saying that none anywhere become corrupt and abusive seems to streach credability.
  12. One. A Nunh is not a pimp. Please. Roleplayers need to get this concept of Nunhs being womanizers out of their heads. That is not how the society is supposed to be. In a comical way - yes, I suppsoe so but in a socio-anthropolocial way? No. Nunh's are just a term used for a man who essentially has 'multiple wives'. With the gender ratios - and how it is lorely portrayed in game - it is not uncommon for Nunh's to even exist. It has happened amoung human culture before where men are allowed more wives than not just to keep strong blood and a healthy population booming. For if a people go extinct there is no culture. If you visit the U' clan in the story and listen to some of the NPC dialogue, all bar one of the huntresses respect the Nunh. They think he is powerful and worthy of their duties. They have ceremonial names for 'mating', they dont need to love him to forfill their duty. That's just one tribe. I can easily see Nunhs being given culturally sanctioned rape options "For the good of the Tribe".
  13. There are a more "human" options playing a Miqote by lore than Hyur ironically. By being average Midlanders have rubbed off any interesting cultural bits. Want to be a viking? Can't play a Hyur. Want to be a Zulu? Can't be a Hyur. Want to be French? Not with the Hyur! Each and every real world culture or aproximation seems to be taken by other races. Its kind of funny to play something the most true to humans of the earth I'd have to play a nonhuman.
  14. It makes sense those who have abandoned their homes might abandon in some fashion their old ways.
  15. Well the only crossbreeds we have in game seem to have tribal letters so it would seem at least Seekers have little problem. Of course those are city bound Seekers who are likely much more liberal than their country cousins
  16. Really I kind of find the large numbers of outcastes or rejects to make sense in a historical comparison Modern tribals have had interaction with the outside world so they can be strong enough to reject it, but historically the rise of powerful cities have been the detrimental to traditional rural ways. We rp people in the cities it makes sense our characters would be the ones who are more likely to abandon the old ways.
  17. It might still be easier for her to play someone in their early teens vs late to adulthood and I think you could justify that especially if the character is a hybrid.
  18. Well lets break it down shall we? First Miqote are the most blatantly well "anime" race. Any of the other races you could easily see in a western style game but Miqote that's something that requires an intent to play to Asian themes. So having been playing WoW at the time when I Started down looking into FF 14 and having a decent amount of players on the server constantly bashing the "Lol Pandas"(Gods know they could you know have quit instead) but it annoyed me. (The reaction these people had to WOD was why I decided not to play two games going forward) That was my first reason of trending towards miqote. Second I wanted to make a character who was an outsider who had moved in. This significantly curtailed my options. Lalafells, Midlanders, and Wildwoods I would have to entirely create what put them outside as they are more or less the backbone of the cities so it would be hard to justify. Sea Wolves, while partially the backbone of Limsa I could have one tied to an "old clan" but I honestly am not a fan of over use of ys in names it just rubs me the wrong way. Highlanders didn't quite have going for them what I wanted but I do find them wonderfully developed from a lore perspective, I wish more games actually did something with humans and human types rather than "Well they are generic guys" But while they lack a home now, they were previously a power in theirown right. They are not "savages". SO that leaves me with 3 options Duskwight, I couldn't get a look that said "I lived underground" vs more standardized Dark elf looks. Hellsguard, I just couldn't get a look I liked that's honestly it. so Left with Miqote again.
  19. Sure she would. She still shares their genes. She's just from a different time-universe. Though the question of "Am I really their daughter/Is she really our child?" would be an interesting one to explore IC. I share half my genes with my brother. Genes don't mean much. Ask someone who has adopted a child. What matters is the raising, the time together and that in a very legitimate way is destroyed via timey whimey stuff.
  20. Just go with the usual time travel rule that the time traveler's presence has irrevocably altered the future. The future-daughter's parents don't ever have to get pregnant because when future-daughter landed in the past, they spawned a new universe/timeline. The future-daughter's past with her future-parents does not have to affect any future rp between the new timeline's present-parents. then in a very meaningful sense the future character is in fact not the child of the two people.
  21. As someone who's done this before you have afew issues that will come up. 1. Her past is your future. All of her backstory is story you haven't played out yet. You can get all Timey Whimey about it but its going to feel forced and might make things harder on your obviously young daughter. 2. People are going to want to know about the future. So even if its a different timeline etc Someone has to come up with details for the future as it unfolds so its alot of lore you'd have to make for yourself. 3.Playing out pregnancy and development. Assuming the timelines stay the same in some fashion eventually you have to move to her being concieved, born, potentially having child her be around her her, its abit complicated and puts alot on everyone's plate. You may be better off coming up with some other justification, I know Eric is a highlander so a Midlander build could at least look like a young teen daughter if you work at it.
  22. It reminded me of the Bantu languages but my lingustics isn't that great. as for the Roe thing the Developers specifically said that.
  23. I use ancient Greek for Allagan and Nym words while using Latin for Garlean
  24. That's not counting New powersets which came in all the time and are much closer to the bredth of classes in this game.
  25. What's he going to do break cover to get more bullets?
