Main Storyline: A Matter of Taste, or RP Etiquette?
Moondoggie replied to Gone4everbye's topic in RP Discussion
Killed by very large forces at least from what i gather and not easily. Having everyone and his Mother having done battle with and defeated primals it just gets silly -
I've yet to even have somebody approach me for ERP maybe my character just isn't hot enough >.> Maybe i should just try and arrange something of an event to tempt a few RP types out of their holes one day and see who i find i'll think it over. Tried poking around with some RP in open world but never got a response to it so have just gone back to pushing for White Mage and spamming instances.

Main Storyline: A Matter of Taste, or RP Etiquette?
Moondoggie replied to Gone4everbye's topic in RP Discussion
Some of the lore you could probably use in RP but agree that a lot of things are just impossible to use because they make a character seem all powerful. Can probably get away with Grand Companies being canon for your character because technically its just like a group you work for it doesn't really grant the character some all powerful god killing abilities or anything exclusive. -
It seems the only way is to join LS and FC groups for it. People will only by the look of it RP among their own groups. I was kind of expecting to see some open world RP going on but i have not seen anything yet. Only Trolls and kids seem to be on Balmung and not the large RP community i hoped for.

One character to lvl all classes and jobs vs alts?
Moondoggie replied to Yskonyn's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Will probably stick to specializing in one job for a character or it just gets confusing to carry tons of gear around and change when i want to switch jobs. My current will be a White Mage eventually and once i cap and do everything maybe i'll level a Black Mage from scratch as a whole new character. It just feels more logical to me to not have one character who is just everything in one. Especially looking from a RP perspective because they technically have no weaknesses. -
Ah so that's what it is. I've not really leveled Arcanist yet for White Mage so didn't know what the Emerald and Topaz mean. Will have to watch for that one in future if the Tank is having problems. But yes sometimes at least in the lower level dungeons i've been doing you get a tank who doesn't really understand what being a tank means. The worst case was one guy who left me to pull aggro by healing him then when the mobs ran to me he saw a chest and decided opening that was more important than stopping me from being overwhelmed. Saw the pet used well in Tam Tara to hold the last boss in the middle which frees up the tank to help clear adds.

Been pretty lucky with this set in like 5 runs i have basically the whole set except the main hand weapon. Acolyte set is nice just annoyed that you can't dye it. As for my favorite i like the outfit White Mages wear at high level.

Went for a little atmosphere with the screenshots i took today. And just because it made me laugh. Some of the names you can come across are amusing. -
'Server guy' gives his insight on ARR server problems
Moondoggie replied to Dameon's topic in FFXIV Discussion
You more or less answered your own question there. Having a queue will just fill up the lobby server full of people trying to get it and it will crash and have errors so you are really just moving the same problem from one server to the other. Unfortunately they don't have a great solution right now but any solution that lets more players into one server will just cause all the same problems we had on day one when tons of people flooded the servers. -
Bleh literally impossible to play at certain hours. The sad thing is evenings are when i'll mostly be wanting to play and by that time i can't even get in. I guess we are expected to pay for a service that we can only use when they let us use it . I hope the situation improves soon i do enjoy the game but if i can't even play it and can't make any progress then no point paying for it.

Other characters you'd like to make cameos
Moondoggie replied to Keru / E'ir's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I suppose it really depends how they do it. Cameos are fine in special content and whatnot for events and stuff but i don't see a need to cross over anything from previous games. The fun of Final Fantasy is supposed to be about many different worlds and stories with just a few common themes wrapping them together. When you start bringing in characters from other games it just makes giant confusing plot holes of doom. If they want to promote a new game with some sort of special event sure that could be fun but making them part of the game would just be weird. -

Taken a few screenies during early access though not as many as i would like. Been trying to level in the time i could get on for the most part. -
I made a dumb video during the maintenance. Here.
Moondoggie replied to Az'to Jinjahl's topic in Artisan House
Lol that basically sums up the whole experience. You'll pay to play but only play when they tell you that you can play Hopefully the servers won't explode too badly but they really should have planned for the mass influx of players better lol. Having joint NA/EU servers was a massive mistake. -
So i started leveling Conjurer and eventually want to become White Mage but do i just grab that as soon as i get the lvl 30 Conj and Lvl 15 Arc requirements or should i max out on Conj first?
-
That's pretty bad. Had a couple of lag spikes but nothing like that happened. The odd bit of jitteryness for a few seconds when in a highly populated zone or a quest NPC taking like 10 seconds to appear on screen.
-
Well just about ready to give up. Early access was pretty much worthless just haven't been able to level or play for more than a couple of hours each day. Might as well of not taken a few days off that i had saved up lol.
-
Somehow seeing somebody who actually thought this was real makes me so happy.

Error 2002 was a new one for me. Error with the lobby server
-
Well i only just got up to Inns due to slow and jumbled progress. I had some questlines stuck for ages since i couldn't do instances and i still need to do a level 10 one so i can unlock more of the game. I definitely have a cheat sheet . I have a whole notebook on my character and other notes just in case i end up in some freeform roleplay and don't want to say something strange. I've used the walk feature a bit usually indoors as part of trying to immerse myself more to the game. Also like sitting on things and showing hats and hoods when the sun is out (Keepers are not daytime lovers of course) or when it rains. I do enjoy the sights. Sometimes i just have to stop and sit somewhere to take it all in.

Don't forget about Hiromichi Tanaka and Yoichi Wada, the former Director of Final Fantasy XIV and the CEO of Square-Enix who both technically lost their jobs over something like this. Not reaaaally like this more that the whole game was a broken mess that was extremely hard and grindy plus full of horrible features that even the Japanese players hated it. The fallout from the original was so big that somebody would take a fall from it. Not really as the same as "oh those silly westerners are having server problems again"
-
Honestly i don't think anyone high up in the project as Yoshi will be losing their jobs over something like this . As long as the Japanese players are happy nobody really gives a damn enough to fire anyone. And his responsibility is for the quality of the game itself not the servers. Like the game? Good. He's done his job.
-
True but its slowly though its better than nothing honestly. Before they took their sweet time giving us updates on problems now its a bit faster which I appreciate more. I guess things could always be faster it's no fun to be left in the dark for any length of time. As long as they acknowledge the problems it's something even if they don't have a one size fixes all answer yet. Yoshi-P when he finishes washing his hair will come and save the day i'm sure.
-
Well i suppose at least they give updates on the issue. Coming from Tera Online Europe it's a big difference to actually hear updates and not just hear nothing . Gameforge are such a horrible mess of a company i think they have like 2 staff members. I think Yoshi-P is too busy washing his beautiful hair to really understand what is happening it's clearly not fixed silly Yoshi.
-
I don't think they said anything of the sort lol. They said they know what the problem is but the thing is the problem is the sheer amount of new players so they have taken measures to test limits of the servers. Honestly i don't think the problem will go away for a good few days yet. It's worse right now since it's a weekend and during summer break for many schools and colleges so there are more people playing. Though this is nothing compared to what the weekend after official launch will be like.
