Some of the quests can be really irritating. It's like go halfway across the world to speak to one guy and do a quest then go all the way back then go somewhere else and later come back again. The amount of random trips to The Shroud is beyond belief.
-
There are not many scenes with voices in them. Just a couple of key storyline scenes. The first one as i recall is right at the start with the crystal.
-
Upon checking the Japanese voices option i noticed the subtitles still display for the English language version it was kind of funny. They are completely wrong for what is being said in Japanese

I don't know how much of it is lag the mechanics are just a weird way to do things. Normally there will be a marker on the floor where the AoE will land and as long as you are out of it when the attack lands you will be fine. In this game you can be outside and i mean well outside the zone when the attack launches and it just does this zoom in animation and hits you anyway. It's either be outside the zone or manage to strafe outside really far in 1-2 seconds depending on what enemy you are facing. It's even worse in a game that has no dodge ability it just decides if you dodge something on it's own and you'll never dodge on an AoE. And yes it can be interrupted but on a boss fight? I don't think so. They just resist everything that could interrupt it. I just don't see why it can't be like other games where if you are out of the marker when the attack happens you are safe. I don't like being a mile away and i still die.

The mileage seems to vary on the English voice cast. Some are well known pros who are very good. Some not so much. The only one that annoyed me so far is the scions leader who's name escapes me at this moment. Her voice actress is awful. But there really isn't enough voice acting in the game for me to care what language it's in anyway. It's only for a few select cut scenes.

Thought i recognised it. He has a pretty unique sounding voice so easy to pick up.

Oh god yes. The AoE system in this game works different than any other game i have played. Normally with an AoE you can dodge out of it last minute and the only people who take damage are those still in the space. In this game it's not an AoE at all it's a timed casting. If the spell bar ends while you are still in the area even at the edge you get hit by the skill even though it casts after the area vanishes. You can be halfway across the room and the spell just zooms in on you. It's a very cheap very Japanese way of doing things. JRPG's are always like this the Japanese players love cheap tactics in their games for some reason. The only way i manage to avoid them is to strafe if i can do it quick enough if i am mid spell and need to cancel it to move forget it. A hit no matter what.

I'm still on the side of an AFK timer being basically useless. With the internet these days information gets passed around so fast that everyone and his mother will be able to bypass it in a couple of days. Especially the reddit crowd who will be like "INJUSTICE! How dare SE try to stop us logging in 24/7 and clogging up the servers pointlessly! The only thing that matters is if i get to play! This breaches human rights!" And then how long would an AFK timer be? Does everyone have to make sure they move every 5-10 minutes while they have a quick break to use the bathroom and make a cup of coffee? I think if i were to request something from SE about the game i'd first ask them to make it easier to block unwanted people and to crack down on gold spammers.

I'll have to hand it to them so far so good. I want them to prove me wrong with this. But yeah so far i've been able to log in at various times and the worst thing i encountered was a 3 player queue
-
They said that before too. Temporary became all the time. Give it until peak hours you'll see.
-
Well from what they are saying still going to have severe restrictions on logins so no change at all. Only thing they have done is create more pools for the duty finder so it doesn't crash the server but that also means it'll take much longer to find groups because the pools are smaller. Seems they are giving everyone an extra weeks subscription as compensation though so it's something even if we hit the same walls when everyone logs in. Just hope we actually get to use that week.

Concerns About Server Maintenance Sept 3rd
Moondoggie replied to LilMomoshi's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I'm not really having much faith in any magic wand fix at this point. I think this will be a long running issue for a while. I hope they prove me wrong and things get better soon but i doubt it. -
This is one of the best things i've heard on the internet. Great parody of a great song and it basically describes how we all feel .

Honestly i've not found any real RP going on so i've just been leveling. I'd really like to finish leveling to get White Mage because it's kind of part of my characters storyline and i'm almost there now. Taking longer than i would like because of how little i've been able to get on and play the game. Would like to try doing some RP though at some point just to take a break from playing because the game mechanics have started to bore me a little bit. Too many annoying fetch quests where i get sent from one side of the world to the other over and over and the combat is dull and easy. Coming from Tera to this game has made the combat system look even worse.

People are just assuming everything will be solved by Wednesday lol. I honestly thing these issues will be ongoing for at least another few weeks. After the first month a chunk of players always drop a new MMO so that will mean things get easier for people who want to play. Until then i expect the same problems.
-
Tried a couple of hours later and still can't get on. Been the case since 3pm. Waste of money.
-
You have more faith than i do. I doubt we'll see any magic wand fix in the next couple of days or even the next couple of weeks. The only time it will be fixed is in the next couple of months when 80% of the population has dropped the game.
-
Apparently they are addressing the issue....ON JAPANESE SERVERS. Of course only Japan is important the fact us western plebs can't log in either is no big deal
-
This is even worse than it was over the weekend on a Monday afternoon.
-
I'll likely be one of the subscribers that leave after the first month. Not any point paying for a shoddy service and a game i can't even play when i want to play it. I thought they were only capping populations at peak hours anyway not all the time. If this was any other company people would be going mad about everything but SE is like Valve people just ignore any problems because they are too busy having a fan orgasm . AFK timers are easy to avoid anyway and they will just cause problems for people who take breaks for food and stuff. They could probably do a server reset at certain hours to get past people just idling on the servers all day and taking up space but that would take effort on their part and people would get around it anyway. Still waiting for solutions to problems they knew they had during beta but ignored. Instead of solutions they just offer blocks to stop people playing the game.
-
Well no idea what you guys do different but 90% of the time i get an error just trying to get the launcher to work and then a lobby error when i do get in. *sigh* another day of playing wasted. Takes 2 hours just to get into the game.
-
I can't even get the launcher to load up so yeah lol. Something seems to be going on don't know what. I guess it's at a point where a lot of people just decided to not log off ever and the servers are always full no matter what time.

Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
Moondoggie replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
Well most of the animal kingdom no. I suppose it depends what you consider "sentient" There are some animals that mate for life but for the most part it's sort of make babies and move on to make more babies . When it comes to cats it's very much like this. And Lions have the whole one male has a group of females that he will breed with and form their own groups. Miqo'te have some similarities to wild cats by the sound of it. I suppose looking at it from a human perspective it's hard to understand how they could have sex and then move on and that would depend on them thinking how we do where we very much often mix sex and love together. Miqo'te seem to me at least be interested in creating strong families so their children will be healthy and will be able to thrive so finding partners who will give them the best offspring is more important than how they feel about them. Not that i can't imagine some might have loving feelings towards a partner but i lean more to most of them behaving more like wild cats where it's survival of the fittest and they seek partners for these reasons. They don't seem to be the type to care much about what their partner does after they have done their business together. -
Only 3:30 in the afternoon and already total lockout. I guess weekends will always be like this unless you log on in the morning and stay logged on. Here's to another 3 hours trying to get in and failing :frustrated:
