    Balance

In honour of this thread I'll make an effort to increase my character's selfishness and callousness by approximately 15%. I'm not going to make him pure evil, but I will definitely venture into Chaotic Neutral territory. And that means everyone who stumbles into my path will be sacrificed for my personal benefit. >:3 Because Chaotic Neutral is like Godzilla. He doesn't destroy Tokyo because he wants to hurt anyone, it just happened to be in his way. I will be the bane of many a self-professed characters of great moral proclivity.
  2. Eorzean night. As far as I can tell, every minute Eorzean time is 3 seconds long, which would make an hour 3 minutes, and a day 72 minutes. So, the quests are open for 36 minutes, and then closed for 36 minutes.
  3. Okay not TECHNICALLY an anime, but still regardless! And why does EVERYONE hate Mako!? I like Mako. It gives people such beautiful, vibrant eye colour.
  4. Honestly, this skirts dangerously close to the tired "You're being over-sensitive" accusation (and is similar to the "I'm sorry if you were offended by what I said" non-apology), which is just complete and utter horseshit. There needs to be responsibility on the part of the offender. You have no idea what history the offended person has that led to them reacting how they did, and you have no right to tell them not to be offended. One must understand that they are, accept that, and work around it on a case-by-case basis. I can agree with the first two points, but not the third. You might as well argue that the offended party needs to understand that not everyone finds X topic offensive; accept that; and find a way to deal with it, without expecting other people to change themselves to conform to their own particular values. Say for instance that I'm offended by homosexuality. Is it then reasonable for me to expect a gay rights activist to work around my personal prejudice for the sake of sparing my feelings? They are after all the ones reponsible for offending me.
  5. I agree that by the end Penguindrum was ridiculously hard to follow. And I can't say it all makes sense to me either. But the impact it had, and the emotion of the characters was overwhelming. You care, even if you don't understand why. It made me stressed, anxious, and at times extremely uncomfortable, but being able to evoke such strong reactions is an accomplishment in itself. That's part of what makes Penguindrum awesome. Jinrui ha Suitai Shimashita is another good, yet confusing one. I'd like to say that the strangest part was when the loaf of bread committed suicide. But as anyone who's seen it can attest to, that's not the case. Once she starts time traveling and cloning herself via banana peels, all bets are off. But the king of difficult to understand anime is still Ergo Proxy. You'd have to be an art, classic lit, psychology, and philosophy major to understand that series. It just has so much going on at all times. Yet it's not a mess, it's just very tightly packed with content. It's, however, one of my favourite shows ever. It could be considered a spin-off of the classic sci-fi book "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" so any Blade Runner fans would probably love it. I know I did. Another series that touches on the same themes of android sentience and the moral and ethical implications for humans is the 6 episode OVA series Eve no Jikan. That one is also brilliant. It's more like a movie than a series though. I'd say watch it all in one go. In fact, they made a movie version that has added scenes, so look for that one. If anyone wants something recommended to them, feel free to ask. I currently have exactly 300 completed anime things under my belt. I say things, because not all of them are series. Some are specials, some are movies, some ONAs. Still, it amounts to a total of 1615 hours, or 67.3 consecutive days of anime stuff.
  6. Recommendation: Mawaru Penguindrum It's really weird! But that's good too!
  7. I think everyone has a right to be offended. What they don't have, however, is the right to never be offended. If someone is offended by so called "vulgar" language, I can sympathize. But that doesn't give them the right to force their values on anyone else. They just have to find some way to deal with that on their own. My stance on it is that the very notion of "curse" words is such a superstitious medieval concept, it shouldn't even be a consideration in the 21st century. They're not curses, they're expletives you use to enhance the impact of a sentence. Compare: "There's a train coming towards us!" to "Holy shit, there's a goddamn train coming towards us!" As you can tell, the second example has a slightly more urgent tone to it. I know some people consider swearing a sign of a limited vocabulary. And to that I can only say that that is a fucking farcical and erroneous assertion. Personally, I actually think it's the exact opposite. Swearing allows you the ability to convey a far broader range of emotion than what could be achieved without it.
  8. I wish they'd find a way to make it less randomized, buying at the same time and praying that you all get put in the same instance sounds like a nightmare. There has to be some better way to control who you're instanced with. Maybe some sort of migration system where you could put yourselves on a list and they shuffle you around to empty instances or something. Or having the instances tied to your FC, where only members can buy in that particular instance. Anything but first-come first-served.
  9. I just finished watching Shin Sekai Yori (From the New World) yesterday. For those of you with the mental fortitude to sit through 25 episodes of some of the absolute worst that humanity has to offer, you couldn't ask for a more brilliant show. And trust me when I say that this show is dark. Like, systematic killing of children type of darkness. But if you can deal with that, the payoff is so worth it. I don't regret watching it for a second. And if you've heard of it in passing, then yes, the show does indeed have one or two yaoi scenes. And I know that this is something that for some people was reason enough to drop the series entirely, but it shouldn't be. This has nothing to do with your homophobic sexual preferences, this is art. I gave this show a 10/10 without question. It's thought provoking and evocative. It's easily one of the best anime out there.
  10. *Begins making plans for tribal miqo'te village*
  11. Forefend is a real word, albeit a fairly archaic one. It just means to protect/to defend against.
  12. Storm Private Third Class, X'sol Tia. Reporting for duty.
  13. Wow, nostalgia trip. I remember playing the korean beta for that game. I can't for the life of me remember why I dropped it. I thought it was pretty cool.
  14. Thanks. I wanted to try to make a character that wasn't just a 21st century secular westerner in disguise. Or more specifically, that wasn't just me with cat ears. So I read up on all of the lore, and I thought long and hard about how best to incorporate that into my character. I thought it would be more interesting if I could sort of take on the mantle of being a regular Miqo'te, rather than being the exception to every single rule and just tossing all of the lore out the window. All the while adding some of my own concoction of flaws to his character. It's something I've learned to appreciate much more as of late. Having serious character flaws or limitations will often make things so much more enjoyable. Like playing Skyrim as a self-loathing Orc who wants nothing more than to be a Nord, and having that colour every decision he makes. And I too hope more people jump aboard the traditionalist wagon. If nothing else the contrast between tribal and non-tribal will make things more interesting.
  15. Category A: You, OOCLY 1. Are there any any races you particularly love the opposite (or same) gender of? The models, the history, the lore, anything. Not really. They all have their merits and detractors. 2. How do you view interracial couples in -game-? Specifically, let's not get into a debate about whether or not it's 'gross' to you as a person or if there are too many people doing it. I think it's something that shouldn't be jumped into too lightly. If we just consider humanity for a second, interracial couples happen with some frequency, but still, the vast majority of couples are between people of the same race. And this is between human beings with little more different between them than shades of skin colour. When you then consider that the races in FFXIV are literally biologically different, you have to assume that this occurs even less frequently. Then we can also factor in that Eorzea is just one continent, and not an entire world of 7 billion people. The maths just don't add up to create a situation where it wouldn't be immersion breaking to pretend like interracial relationships are commonplace and no big deal at all. Does it happen? Of course it does. But it's probably naïve to think that you shouldn't expect strange looks and judgemental questions in character. 3. Do your OOC feelings towards a particular race make you more open or affect what your character is looking for when they're either flirting around, pursuing romance, or just, in general, acting differently towards those individuals. No, I try to keep it in character. Category B: Your character 1. Does your character seek friends or partners based predominantly on race? I haven't decided whether or not I'm going to pursue any romantic roleplay. But I know that as a male seeker, attracting females will be a strong motivation for my character, and it will be entirely confined to females within his race. Because that's how I view his particular motivation in this case. His primary interest in romance is as a means of performing his duty and strengthening his tribe. If he were to find love in the process, he wouldn't reject it, but that's not a primary motivator. As for friends? No. He doesn't see any reason why he couldn't be friends with any other race. He does find it difficult to take Lalafell seriously, as he doesn't view them as equals. And he is extremely wary of male Roegadyn, because they're huge, and he views them as potential threats. He wouldn't avoid them, but he will keep just out of arm's reach, just in case. 2. How does your character view interracial pairings and are their feelings different from your own? So, he is entirely against interracial parings for Miqo'te. He couldn't care less what the other races are doing. But for a Miqo'te to actually enter into a relationship with another race, (as opposed to just recreational sex as a release for pent up urges) is something he considers to be equivalent to betraying your race. Worse for a male than a female, granted, but still not acceptable either way. He is all about the tribe, so he feels that any love that doesn't benefit the tribe is misplaced and morally reprehensible. So yeah, they're totally different from my own feelings on the matter.
  16. Hahaha, that made me laugh more than it should have. ^^
  17. That's not flattery, that's called being a stalker. More on topic though, it's important to keep in mind that these are really all city dwelling Miqo'te. We don't see much of the tribes. There might be an extreme dichotomy in the behaviour between the different groups. Sort of how a dog is nothing like a wolf.
  18. I'm game. This one nicely sums up X'sol's general attitude. As for a character theme. Other themes? All versions of Living With Determination. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3go8l2GoqE
  19. I usually just run around the area and invite people that fit what I need, until the group is complete. Some times, maybe I can't find that last person I need, the duty finder can take care of that. The thing is far better at finding one person than three. You can't do that for Ifrit?
  20. Anyone know if the Ul'dahn robes you see some NPC's wear in cutscenes and whatnot are playable? I'd love to get my hands on a set.
  21. Love it. It looks like a big finish for your solo in a musical. PS: I want that set more each time I see it. Haha, you're right, it kinda does. And if it's going to be a big musical finish, it should be this one: youtube.com/watch?v=O0Sx5lbVlQA&t=2m20s
  22. Just throwing it in here for good measure. The adjective of Hyur seems to be Hyuran, as in Hyuran culture and Hyuran cuisine. And the plural is just Hyur. Like so: I met one Hyur, I met a thousand Hyur. More on topic though. This is from the Lodestone entry on Elezen. "The Elezen are a characteristically tall people, long of limb and slender of build. They are also possessed of a somewhat extended lifespan in comparison to the Hyur."
  23. X'sol having fun in full the Foestriker set that took me 20+ dungeon runs to get. "Woah, look at all these stars and shit!"
  24. I went and made myself a light and breezy summer outfit. I sucks that the pants aren't useable by all classes, means I can't use it when crafting or fishing. Can't wait for SE to implement vanity slots.
  25. No defense bonuses. No stat bonuses. Just 100% sexy mancat! Try to control yourselves, ladies. "This is embarassing. Just... Ugh, no pictures please."
