Maybe he just means summer-style gear?
-
Problem is, we all dress like women. *Pirouettes away* I mean, my main RP outfit right now is spandex tights. LOOK I LIKE THEM OKAY. Yea, it's hard to make a cool looking MALE caster when the only difference between their gear and a female gear is a flatter chest(which really has nothing to do with the gear itself). Yes, occasionally there are some breeches instead of tights, but when you look next to you and see a lady caster using the exact same gear(especially when the boots make them look more like Capri's occasionally) it's had to feel like your playing a male character.I understand Robes are very unisex to start with, but come on do a little something to make variety. While I agree with the need to spice up the robes later on in levels, it's not just the robes that are unisex. It's everything. (And I wouldn't have it any other way ♥) I personally like the dude-robes and tights. I think they look very fitting for a caster. (Quite comfy!) Haha, that is ridiculous! I want it...

Did you play the Beta with it? Because I played the Beta.

We are not adorable! We are fearsome warriors! *storms off in a huff* :cactuar:

I only payed for 2 months and my 1.0 account works.
-
SOON! But in the meanwhile I'll have to settle for my unofficial Limsa getup.

I haven't had a lot of luck with the duty finder overall. I'm finding just making a group manually is a thousand times faster.

Yeah, I couldn't deal with it. Back to English. >_> I mean, it was like they were having different conversations.

I've looked around, and I haven't found any specific types of alcohol. But they mention wine, brandy, whisky, ale, and grog. So I would assume they've learned to ferment anything that grows, as is common practice. What I do is I extrapolate what kinds of alcohol there might be from what kinds of ingredients there are to make it out of. For instance, there's sugar in the game, so they can probably make rum. There's rice in the game, which means they can probably make sake. There's corn, so they can probably make bourbon. And there's cinnamon, cloves, and oranges in the game, which means they can make mulled wine in the winter.

You have my eternal gratitude. /formalbow

Any way to change to Japanese voice acting? The English voice actors aren't what you would call "great". Also, I did recognize one female character voice as Kobayashi Yuu, and one male voice as Okamoto Nobuhiko.

That's my point. I think you're overestimating how far people are willing to go to avoid being logged out. I'm fairly sure most AFK are just AFK because they can. They probably couldn't even be bothered to go into options and tick a "Don't AFK-boot me" box to avoid it. They just get up from their computers and go do other stuff, and if they get kicked during that, they'd just accept it. There are always going to be those people who move heaven and earth to not get kicked for being AFK. I know one guy who used to tape a lego block to his forward key, and aim his character towards a corner for that very reason. But these people are just a tiny minority. And even if it's just a placebo, having part of a server just standing around being AFK is, if nothing else, depressing to look at. It's better that the people who are online are the ones actually playing the game.

Woo! Welcome to Eorzea, Aedan!

Basic Info Name: X'sol Tia Race: Miqo'te, Seeker of the Sun Gender: Male Skintone: Pale Build: Athletic, think swimmer/football player. (soccer to you americans) The tribal lifestyle of hunting and manual labour means he's more built for endurance than raw strength. Height: 170cm Hair Colour: Blue (It's a particular type of bluish grey colour some cats have. See this link for an example) Hair Style: Medium long and naturally straight. (as opposed to straightener straight) I would have liked it to be a bit longer, something like this, but the ingame hairstyle is a pretty good representation of what I'm going for. It' a mane. Markings: Your run-of-the-mill male Miqo'te facial markings. Eye colour: A pale green colour. I made my character to look like my actual cat, and norwegian forest cats by and large, have these kinds of pale green eyes. And in case you were wondering. That last picture is to scale. They're pretty big cats. Tail: Fluffy as f**k. I couldn't make it fluffy enough ingame, unfortunately. But I made it as long and fluffy as possible. Details Expression: His default is to sport a determined expression, with piercing eyes that look through you rather than at you. Constantly sizing you up, looking for any gap in your defences, any small sign of weakness. He is a predator, after all. But he has a full range of expressions, although that look does tend to feature in a lot of them. Demeanour: Confident, Reserved, Sardonic. He's not violent, but his personality is aggressive. Sort of relentless. Not to say he's unreasonable, but if he wants something he won't hesitate to just go for it. He loves to sleep, and doesn't really care where it is or who's around. It wouldn't be unthinkable for him to climb up onto some large tent or awning and treat it like his own personal hammock when he wants to take a quick nap. He also really likes apples, and apple brandy. Really, any alocohol, but apple brandy is his favourite. Attire: He likes cottons and leathers. Loose fitting clothing that is easy to move around in. In combat he prefers things like chainmail that doesn't weight him down as much. In case you wanted to draw him in combat, his weapon of choice is the spear. Notes: He doesn't like Lalafell. So feel free drawing him bullying one. He doesn't hate them, he just thinks they're ridiculous creatures. He views them more as strange talking little animals than as equals. Think of him as being largely a wild beast. He relies very much on instinct. Wiki: I'll get around to writing it eventually... Probably. ^^ Reference pictures: Here he is staring wistfully into the distance. Here he is laughing his ass off at a Lalafell wearing a reindeer costume. And here he is considering how easy it would be to just give this Lalafell a slight nudge and send him flying off of the bridge.

Aren't hyur supposed to have names based on old timey professions, like what the English have? You know... Smith, Carpenter, Thatcher, Fletcher, Archer, Baker, Baxter, Butler, Harper, Mason, Merchant, Porter etc. etc.

I think half an hour sounds reasonable. Sure you could find ways around it. It would probably be as easy as writing a macro telling your character to jump once ever 10 minutes or something. But most people wouldn't do that. For most people, they'd tab out to watch a youtube video, and then get sidetracked into watching 5 more, and reading 12 wiki pages for no apparent reason. But hey, now you know the unlikely origin story of saccharin, and that ciorba de burta, or tripe soup, is one of the 4 national dishes of Romania. I forgot the point of this... Oh right, you get kicked for being AFK. But that's no big deal, just log back in again.

100 Questions to Ask About Your Role-Playing Character

My character scored a whopping 0 on the Mary Sue test. *does happy dance* :cactuar: It has been my experience that ideals might be what we think we want, but there's generally nothing more boring than a perfect person. Because everything about them is just as it seems. There are now shadows lurking beneath the surface, no secrets or hidden motivations. Everything they do, they do out in the open, because they have no reason not to. They have been written specifically to never be wrong. And I understand the appeal of being able to write yourself the way you wish you were. But that person is never interesting to anyone other than you. Flaws are fun, they colour the characters and make them unique. For instance, perhaps my Miqo'te points and laughs when he sees a Roegadyn accidentally kick a Lalafell underfoot. It's an asshole thing to do, but it adds depth to his character. Depending on your perspective you might construe it as a fundamental lack of empathy. Now why would he do that? Does he consider the Lalafell weak, and thus deserving of a kick? Does he just not give a shit about anyone other than himself? Is he racist against Lalafell for some reason? Maybe it's justified, and then again maybe it isn't. But that's sort of the point though. No one is perfect, so giving your characters flaws will make them seem more real. No one can identify with super ultra hero-sama of destiny, because no human being is actually like that. And if you can't identify with at least some part of the character, it is really difficult to care about anything they say or do. Putting your character on a pedestal, will always be met with the same disdain as putting yourself on a pedestal is met with in real life. Have you ever considered why so many people hate stuff like Twilight, True Blood, Sword Art Online etc. etc.? It's because they're Mary Sue fiction. They're basically mental masturbation for the author, and for anyone who doesn't share the author's exact fantasy, it just comes off as delusional and self-centered.

RIP Hayao Miyazaki, you will be missed.

Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
Vinter replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
"During the Age of Endless Frost, as the seas turned to ice and passage over them became possible, Eorzea saw an influx of foreign fauna to her shores. This in turn brought the hunting tribes which subsisted upon them, the modern descendants of whom are today known as the Miqo'te." It's suggested they were simply following the herds of prey animals migrating to Eorzea. As for food, looking at the cooking stuff in the game, both seekers and keepers are apparently fond of skewering and grilling their food. There are three recipies for Miq'abob, which are essentially shish kebab. Tuna Miq'abob is described as a traditional keeper dish, while Forest Miq'abob with mushrooms, and Meat Miqa'bob with dodo meat and tomatoes, are traditional seeker dishes. So, we can at least say with some certainty that they aren't strict carnivores. -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view

It didn't evolve. People were still discussing the original topic, and shuck was just chiming in condescendingly shitting all over people's posts in passing. -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
Vinter replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
How is disagreeing with a topic antagonizing people and acting like a dick? Now you're just getting straight up rude. I'm going to say this again, because apparently ya'll just come in on every other post. People are allowed to disagree. People allowed to agree. This isn't the "eveyone who agrees with me gets to post" club. Everyone has a right to post here, and don't you say otherwise. Back the fuck up. Holy hell, get back to the discussion. If you're going to just outright flaming people, take it to PMs. Edit: And before you whine about how I'm coming to the defense of a friend, no. It just happens to be something I see going on right now. If I seen people acting this way towards anyone else for no particular reasons because disagreeing IS MEAN, then you'd get the same damn response. Because you're not adding anything to the discussion, you're fucking derailing it! This is a discussion about the mating strategies of the miqo'te and their implications on miqo'te society, not a discussion about the validity of a discussion about the mating strategies of the miqo'te. If you, however, feel that such a discussion would be a productive use of your time, you're perfectly free to start a new thread titled "Is there any point in discussing miqo'te mating strategies?" but that's not what this thread is about. I'm shaking in my boots already. We could, but we don't want to. There's a difference. There are german shepherds with straight backs who are just fine. And there are types of bulldogs that are just fine as well. We specifically breed for these flaws because we find them attractive. No, fuck that. Uther +1'ed Velkyron's post stating that the thread is pointless. Myxie chimed in saying that some people do think there's a point to it, and backed it up with ratings and PMs. You then start arguing that the opinions of those people are irrelevant, again, implying that there's no point to this discussion. But apparently it has value to the people who rated it up. So the only pointless thing here is your argument. So, you're the one who defines what a homonid-style is? It has two legs, two arms, two ears, a nose, a mouth, two eyes, plantigrade feet. A homonid is member of the great ape family. Last I checked, SE had not mentioned Miqo'te being great apes. So a kangaroo is as much a homonid as a Miqo'te. -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
Vinter replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
If anyone actually cared about the health of show dogs, we wouldn't have the english bulldog or the slanty-back german shepherd. We care about their appearance, we couldn't care less if they can breathe or not. You just described a kangaroo. Are you going to argue that a kangaroo is a human too? Highlighted the key word here. Other people in this thread are trying to have what they consider an interesting and productive discussion. The only thing you're doing however, is shitting all over that because in your opinion this topic isn't interesting or worth discussing. So why should anyone care what you think? What makes your prescence in this thread desirable, if all you're going to do is antagonize people and act like a dick? -
Miqo’te Mating Strategies Explored: a biologist’s point of view
Vinter replied to Myxie Tryxle's topic in Lore Discussion
The thing about this topic is that it actually has very little to do with sex, and more to do with trying to figure out a foundation for Miqo'te society. Like I said in an earlier post, pretty much all of our society is based around breeding. It's a biological imperative for most humans to procreate and pass on their genetic information, and so that practice, and how we deal with it, influences every part of our society. We have entire industries devoted to providing tools to deal with infants. Diapers, car seats, clothing, harnesses, toys to help with mental development. If we instead laid eggs, that likely wouldn't be the case, we'd have heat lamps and that's it. We have houses for each individual family, where we quite literally lock out everyone in our community who isn't our immediate family, and double beds because we want to sleep next to our mates. Again, something based entirely around our own particular mating strategies. Marriage. I can go on but I think I've made my point. The same is true for animals. The structure of a lion pride is directly determined by the mating strategies of the lions. So it's reasonable to assume that the same would hold true for Miqo'te. That's why if we want to understand how their society might be structured, how they might interact with one another, what their values and motivations are, we first have to understand how their species continues to exist, ie. their mating strategy. That is one, if not the most important factor shaping their culture. -
Physical advantages of the races of Eorzia
Vinter replied to Khaze'to Zhwan's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I imagine miqo'te hearing is akin to that of cats. They can hear much higher frequencies, and their hearing is much more sensitive than that of humans. However, as predators, the main use for their hearing is triangulation of prey. So, if someone dropped a ball in a pitch black room, a miqo'te could possibly hear the sound of the ball hitting the ground and tell you in which direction the sound came from, and how far away it was, within a very small margin of error. Whereas a human would only hear a ball being dropped somewhere to the left, and depending on the loudness of the sound, determine if it was close or far away.
