So after a long absence from Balmung, and taking advantage of the new character boost service, I wanna dip my toes back into Balmung! Well, not literally into Balmung, weirdos. Anyways, I remade my old alt I had gathering dust on Balumg and while I'm still hashing out the details, what I do have is a Midlander with some Ala Mhigan blood who really really wants to join in the fight for Ala Mhigo... or other things but those are spoilers so shhhh. She's a young swordswoman with probably a bit too much enthusiasm who could probably use the guidance of more experienced adventurers before she does something too brash. Oh and yes, this is an alt- my main is on Excal, but since I've already completed SB and am now on the Duty and Hunt maintenence segment, I need something else to do. And my main has PLD to 66 so far, so I don't think boosting my Balmung character to 60 PLD will be an issue

Okay, seriouspost. I don't know why this has people in such a tizzy. I mean, I'm pretty sure it's been implied that Dragoons are a pretty select club for a while, now. And besides, I highly doubt that people roleplay with every single person on the server- there's probably dozens of personal/group canons running concurrently. I mean, dozens of them! DOZENS! edit: So I guess I mean: You do you and Bob over there will do Bob the DRG and maybe your paths will cross but probably not and who cares, we're here to have fun right.

I heard about the Glamour system and was all excited about coming back, as being able to tailor my characters appearance is a big thing for me. Then I see you have to be level 50 to do it What a load of bull. I'll stick to the games I'm currently playing. It's pretty pretty dress up for end game raiders so they don't end up looking like a bowl of Skittles.

"I am the shadow that goes nyan~ in the night!" :cactuar: (I know that's The Shadow, but it was too tempting to pass up...)

I think the question that hasn't been asked is: if your characters is blind, but can still see and function as well as a sighted person, are they truly blind?

Clearly you are unable to appreciate the subtle nuances in the superior original Japanese script, you baka gaijin. I guess this game isn't for you- maybe you should play WoW. #yolo #swag #2pro #anime4lyfe :cactuar:

When I do play the more soldierly types, I tend to go for either the measured ones who just don't start fights and shrug and walk away from hot-headed punks. Or I play the hot-headed punk and will pick a fight with someone stronger and get a bloody nose in a duel- that is, if the other person is willing to do so. edit: I avoid RP fights mostly because they all end up being really awkward and silly drawn out affairs. Again, the ones I've seen have been in public spaces and you can't quite control who is interacting with who, as well as the general quality level But they do seem to devolve into RP pissing matches more often than not in my experience. I do miss the bare knuckle dueling in Age of Conan. Many a good Cimmerian scrap was had at meets.

See, that's why you shouldn't forum before your morning coffee! :tonberry: I should specify that I haven't seen this to such an alarming extent on Balmung (granted, I haven't been able to play since last Thursday, ugh!). Just a trend I noticed on other fantasy MMOs. WoW being the prime culprit of this. I do know my character would probably think twice about going someplace dangerous with someone who is missing limbs As for the whole levels thing, everyone has brought up good points. As for RP duels, I tend to avoid them, as I find them really dull and boring. Not to mention ridiculous. But actual PvP does bring it's own sort of problems. Personally, I just avoid fighting if at all possible. Though I have gone into a PvP duel knowing I will lose, just because it'd make sense to do so (ie character running their mouth and getting smacked down cause of it).

The thing I'm railing against is that this trope has become pretty much a running joke. When every other person is a cyborg, I think it's been run into the ground enough (and by your own admission, you have two characters who are this way already. I think you need an intervention ) This is only my personal experience that I'm really opining on- I just think that roleplayers need a little more, ah, restraint. Too many times they have their character lose an eye or a limb just cause it's cool and a robot part would be bad ass, but it doesn't really add anything of real substance to the character. It's just fluff.

I'm sure we will soon (or already have) characters with robot arms and magitech eyes, as well as escaped demons from hell who are secretly disguised as mortals but can't seem to resist the urge to flaunt their origins openly (and with as many witnesses as possible, uuuuuuugh) and other assorted stupidity. I'm finding these days, to make a 'special' character, you just RP as an average person doing what they can in a fantasy world. Just being an adventurer is pretty special as it is, since you have to be a little crazy to go outside the safety of the cities for what could amount to nothing more than personal glory I think that's been lost on a lot of the roleplayers I've seen the past few years. Good point! I've never treated levels as a direct measure of power- more of a general gauge of the character's experience. Granted, with FFXIV's class system, this means I'd have to apply it on a more class to class basis. Hmm~ I suppose it'd be how comfortable they be discussing matters related to said class. Tajha is just starting out as a THM, so she's only be able to recall only the most basic stuff. Granted, I doubt a lot of us are master wizards or blacksmiths in real life so a bit of.. ah, bullshitting, would probably be in order (edit edit edit: I apologize for any typos- posting before coffee is not recommended)

I'd play some Saints Row 4, but yesterday's patch corrupted saves so I can't even play that to pass the time Woe It's disappointing that some folks have a FYGM attitude, but not at all surprising. We live in the age of "I want it and I want it NOW."

"I'm logged in. FYGM " Actually, I wouldn't and have not done the same- probably because I am a considerate human being without an insufferable level of entitlement
