Impromptu beach party anyone?

Welcome to Gilgamesh! Lemme answer some things from my POV for you: 1) There is no reason not to play what you enjoy. Just as long as it's not crazy bad and tries to ruin everybody's day. You won't make friends easy that way. (This is in a OOC context, if you wanna play a baddy ICly, that's way cool-fine-didly-fine.) 2) Most of the time players prefer you use a name that isn't related to a series. Since it may be a bit...immersion breaking. And overall odd. Imagine if someone wanted to play Legolas in a Sci-Fi setting with the same name and everything. IT would be extremely weird. Even if the genre's are the same, it's kinda odd to use the name from another character in a different universe. I've never even heard of that series, so I wouldn't even know the difference though. Aslong as it doesn't have cross-over from that universe into this one, I would be fine. Now that I know, I would more of suggest styling your character after that one, and giving it a different name. One unique to how you see her. But that is all up to you! 3) Yes! Absolutely! I do this. I spend time RP'ing then go level. But I usually put more time into RP, since I like it alot. It's only a preference. Balance it how you wish! 4) Ofcourse! There are a lot of FC's out there that you can put your characters into. Pick ones according to your characters personality's, or even have them diametrically opposed! RP in general will allow you to grow them in time. I'm gonna be shameless and say you should look into: Pirates of the Wayward Star, Blackwater Company and the LS, Ambrosia. *Whistles innocently* If you ever want to RP or hang out, give me a tell in game! Names: Baer Reddicta.

If not, do you want to? Why or why not? "No not yet." *Sighs* 62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help? "Hrrrm. Hard question...Probably Y'vali or Aoelus. Sue, A'kora or some of the others as well." 63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why? "I don't expect that from anyone. If they choose to protect me or not is their choice." 64. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations? "Sometimes. Not very often." 68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not? "Yes I love being around people. Do you want to quit? "I drink. And I drink for effect." 77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night? "Usually at the bar, looking over the customers and serving them. When I manage to get time off, I like just chatting it up with my coworkers or friends." 78. What makes you laugh? "A lot of things. Love jokes to death." 79. What, if anything, shocks or offends you? "Not much actually. I do find it offensive when a man abuses a woman, or uses them. I have little patience for things like that." 80. What would you do if you had insomnia and had to find something to do to amuse yourself? "I would be working on my figurines. Which, I do already. Since I don't sleep all that well." *Laughs* 81. How do you deal with stress? "Sex, fighting-physical exertion in some way helps me. Or just speaking to someone close to me." 82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan? "Spontaneous! What better way to live then to just wake up one morning and shout 'Were going on a boat today!' or 'Were going fishin'!'" 83. What are your pet peeves? "When a customer asks me for the cheapest and best drink on the menu. Not being acknowledged in a conversation. And someone criticizing someone else's work, before looking at themselves." Part 7: Self Images And Etc. 84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted? "Get up, wash, prep. Eat. Go do whatever I wish until the evening-then watch over the bar for the night. If it get's altered, it doesn't affect me much. Such as if I am not needed at the bar-I go out and look for a good time. Or handle something that needs my attention." 85. What is your greatest strength as a person? "As with a lot of these introspective questions, I can't fully see myself as a person. So I believe my greatest strength is to get others to laugh." 86. What is your greatest weakness? "I can be extremely pushy when worried." 87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? "Make myself a little less apt to worrying about certain things at any given moment." 88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted? "Extroverted." 89. Are you generally organized or messy? "Messy as all hell." 90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at. "Cooking, Mixing, Dancing. For the good things. And the bad things are; Sex, Fighting and Thinking." *Tone is playful at this point. Not at all serious* 91. Do you like yourself? "Yes. Enough that I can live with myself everyday." 92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…) "I don't really adventure anymore. It'd a dangerous profession, mind you. I prefer the more relaxed lifestyle I have now. Part of me wishes I became a merchant at a young age, or a cook." 93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime? "To have a family, to have a home, and to enjoy the rest of my life." 94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? "That's a good question that I have no good answer for right now. Things are very up in the air." 95. If you could choose, how would you want to die? "In my sleep, hopefully next to someone I love." *Laughs gently.* "Though that may be rather gruesome for her. Would probably scare the living crap out of her at first. But I would want to be near the one I love when I die. However it may be." 96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left. "Tell everyone everything that comes to my mind, do as much as I could to help other's, and spend my last bit of time trying to have a get together on the beach one last time with all my friends. New and old." 97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death? "I don't have anything specific to be honest." 98. What three words best describe your personality? "Happy, Silly, Odd." 99. What three words would others probably use to describe you? "No freaking clue. Probably; Crazy, Stupid, Annoying?" 100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice…) "Procrastinator, get your ass in gear. You only got so much time, and if your not spending it well-then your failing! Your losing!" -Me -
Oh don't worry, her meow is worse then her bite. She loves new talent. *Whistles innocently and waits a moment, before running and making sure he doesn't get pounced by Y'v*

Varying styles appeal to me. Nothing really is excluded. I find RP enjoyable when everyone can enjoy themselves, and intermingle without one side getting all the attention and the other lacking. No one likes being ignored. No one likes being the odd-man-out. I try to make sure no one has to go through that, since I have been there before! And I am pretty sure many others have as well. Approaching RP is hard, and I try to approach others with it-break that ice for them. That's really when I have fun. Breaking that ice and getting everyone involved. Is there a specific RP style I prefer though? Or group setting? Hm. Nope. Anything is good.

You make a good point, but we are not asking for someone to go about and deem who should play what. Variety is the spice of life. That's how I feel. When everyone does the exact same thing, and are happy-well, then were all happy then. But were not robots or machines. Variety is what keeps people playing, and if something get's too saturated with a certain type-it ruins the experience and chances for everybody in the long run. You may love Taco's a lot, and eat Taco's constantly, but sooner or later your never gonna wanna touch them again. No matter how many styles you try of the Taco, it will be the same everytime in some way or form. And you will burn out. I can't tell what's going to happen in the future-I Just hope that the community doesn't die due to what I have seen. Atleast on Gilgamesh. Saying variety should exist is implying that it's not OK for it to not exist. It is, if everyone's happy about that. Saying there should be balance is, yes, telling people they shouldn't all be playing the same thing. If you like variety, be the variety (which you are). Others won't necessarily follow suit. Variety may keep you playing, but it's not necessarily true for everyone else. People are entitled to playing the same old thing endlessly if they want to. Implying it's the natural state of things is a little exclusionary, to be honest. I, too, prefer variety. That's why I have seven alts rolled, all with different personalities. Some people do not, and ultimately, RP is as much an individual experience as it is a group one. And if the community dies due to a lack of variety - not much that can be done about it. Again, expecting people to play what they're not comfortable with leads nowhere, and would kill the community just the same. If you're not enjoying the RP you have, find something more suited to your tastes. If there's nothing, start something. If there's no interest, try another server. If that doesn't work either, what can you do? Sometimes you just can't find people you mesh with. It happens. You make a good point. Guess in a roundabout fashion it is forcing someone if we try and make something balanced. Will think on this. In the end, you are correct. Shouldering and moving on is a better option then to waste my time trying to fix something that isn't broken. God all it's still fucking frustrating. Not only is that offensive, but I've found it to be highly inaccurate. Most godmodders I've encountered have been drunk with power villains who take a cue from Dbz or naruto. However, I would never be so bold as to claim that 'most who play villains are godmodders' because that is simply not the case. Godmodders truly are rare. Let's not confuse dislike for a particular brand of RP for those who do not respect RP conventions. Just my observations over time. Hard for me to wipe my slate clean on my own prejudices and experiences when I see something I have seen beforehand occuring once again. Still, you make a good point. And I will not argue against it-as it is correct.
-
There is a second stigma for bad guys. Godmoders. This comes about two fold. One from people copying without much understanding antagonists from other settings. "But done right" having missed the storyline weight of each. Second it often becomes necissary with the proponderance of White Knights to be able to fight them off. So many equate playing the bad guy not just with bad rp in general. That is true, but that is also brought down to a secular person's POV at that time. It's their own choice to brandmark badguys as godmoders/powergamers. Bad RP'ers are just that, bad RP'ers. Those whom godmod/powergame are bad Rp'ers. The problem lies in that most who play goodguy's are the common offender's in both fronts. How many times have you met an exceptionally well played Paladin? How many times have you met an exceptionally well played Rogue? Ask yourself these questions. You can mess up on either. You can play either. But one is vastly more chosen over the other-and done bad. (In the RP sense, not the game-mechanics sense. Coming from a D&D/NWN background) There is also a lot more work put into being a good badguy rather then a run-of-the-mill villain. Guess you could say this is a two way street, but right now one part of the street has four lanes, while the other has one. Edit: Sigh, that came off as more of bashing goodguy players. Not trying to guy's, the point is that we are swamped with goodies and not enough baddies. Edit-edit: As I have said below, and should have disclaimer-ed half of what I said-these are my observations over time. My experiences. My thoughts. And what I have gone through and seen. I should not be imposing them as fact-as they are more of passing my feelings on a subject, and experiences rather then statistics.

On point 1: There is a stigma with being a badguy. Or villain for that matter. And it's usually drawn to be a black-and-white affair in most peoples minds. There can be so many variations of a badguy, that you can even mistake them for goodguys at times! Just people close themselves off from the chances or opening their minds up to perceive new way's to play the archeotype. On point 2: Agreed. There are no shortage of them. And they grow in number from what I have seen so far on the Gilgamesh server. The pure-and-good types who are unable to do wrong. Which I find a very bad way of storytelling and construction for that matter. No one is perfect. Everyone has an ego. We all do bad things at some point in time. So why make a character that is borderline Mary Sue/Barry Sue when it comes to the whole "Good" facets? It's rather dull to me. And the mass amount of them I have seen is mind numbing. One the - stuff: -Most assume Villain/Badguy/Baddie is a bad thing, and they will either hurt others in RP or cause excess drama. Lots of reasons. -I've run into enough, without naming names-and without going back into other games then just this one. (And there are several in this game that I know of, and am trying to convert into more 'level headed' players with their characters.) I choose against a goodguy, because I like playing the middle line. Good, bad and neutral all in one. Baer is a good guy, who will help you till he dies, but if he get's angry-he will ruin anything and everything. Including friendships and his life. And if you cross him, he will do the same. He has no problem with stealing or trafficking goods. He likes money. He's able to fail as a human and add more to a story as a being then a flat-one-dimensional character. Which is what I am looking at as the stereotypical "Hero" that is becoming more and more common. -Ofcourse there needs to be balance! There has to be balance in everything! Even the races, so then I can properly get Baer hitched.

[Gilgamesh] LF RP companionship, possible love interest?!
IncubusManatee replied to CrimsonMars's topic in RP Discussion
If you would like to ever RP with someone, give me a shout! Baer Reddicta in game. Usually on around 9pm EST. Warning: YOU WILL LAUGH AND YOUR RIBS WILL HATE YOU! Edited: P.s. Don't worry so much, some people are into the 'Juicy' stuff as well. -
Highlander Male - Baer Now has he changed since release/beta? No not really, he's still himself. How I originally made him. Had some new stuff happen to him, but nothin's changed...yet. Have your expectations out of the RP community changed? Nope. Not at all. Just am surprised at how many people rolled Miqo'te and making me feel out of place as a Hyur. >_> So many cat's....

"Yes, surprises! Fun surprises may occur too! But the first one is probably not going to be fun." He says with a chuckle. Almost menacing. But it has a lilt of sillyness to it. Since he obviously didin't plan anything too harsh for the Catkin. Turning his head to the Elezen slowly and then back to the Huntress. Then he looked upon the Elezen once more. Deciding to take this moment to fully absorb the visage and form of the healer. Eyes roaming over every last bit of her. Though not stopping for any extended period of time at all. Until they came back to rest on her face once more as he nodded his head. "Yes, seconded, how long?" A bright smile still cresting his face.

You need to send Sulie a message on Enjin BTW, she's looking for a Audition time.

Very good story, liked it a lot. Couldn't help but go "Raaaaaamzaaaa?" When I read that name. And also I think you meant "braid" in the sentence above. Overall, very likey.

(Shortstory-OOC Welcome) A Tale of Wind And Water.
IncubusManatee posted a topic in Town Square (IC)
The room was dark, and the smell of pipe tobacco filled its interior. An old man slowly rocked on a old wooden chair. Slowly puffing on a pipe. His clothes were old, and his features akin to that of rock. Deep, sharp and cliff-like. Even the smile he wore was unusual. Twisted to one side like a madman's grin, showing the pearl white fangs behind the lips of his maw. This always fascinated the children whom always came to visit and hear his stories. Sometimes more enraptured by his visage then the actual story. Graith chuckled softly as the children had come again. Asking of a story they had never heard before. "Tell us a new one!" They shouted with joy as they crashed through the door earlier. The sounds of Ul'dah's streets flooding in until the door was once more sealed. Encircling the decrepit old man like wolves, hungry for fresh meat. And like any of his stories, he always liked taking them from what he had experience, seen or heard in his life. There was one story he had not told in a long time. Years it had been. "I shall tell you of a man and woman. A love story." The old man spoke, voice like the grinding of stone against stone. And those words certainly had an effect on his audience. The young Hyur girls giggled and listened, while the boy's were a little more disgusted. Grumbling. Which elicited a hearty chuckle from the old man. A swift shake of his head soon followed, making his salt-and-pepper hair sway gently. "Trust me, boy's. You will enjoy this story. It is of a warrior...I shall name him Wind. And of a woman, whom I shall call Water-" The old man began once again, but was interrupted as a young blond haired midlander girl raised her hand and spoke. "Was that their real names?" Which caused the old man to chuckle once more and shake his head. "No, Nell. No. But it is who they are. You shall learn soon." Taking several moments to pull air into his old lungs as he began to speak in a deep and sonorous voice. Filling the dark room, the fire from nearby flickering every so often. "Wind was an impetuous man, doing as he so pleased with his life. Flitting from place to place. Fighting as he saw fit. Living as he saw fit. Until his world crashed about him. Life had no meaning for him at that point. So he wandered. Traveling all over Eorzea, wherever his feet led him. Haunted by the realization he was a monster. Not like the ones outside the walls, in the wilderness-but a monster on the inside. He arrived here once...a long time ago. Seeking nothing but the nearest vessel of spirit to drown his thoughts. He happened across a blind woman whom was peddling. Her bones showed. Her hair was ragged. Clothes were holey and just as ragged looking as her. The only thing she had on her of value was two bronze bangles. What made him notice this woman was one thing-she was smiling." The old man took a moment to breath and let that set in, before continuing slowly. "Wind asked her, 'How can you smile when you have nothing? Are you not unhappy?' as he approached her. Her response shocked him to the core. 'I am but happy to be alive. And able to hear your voice. Sir.' This woman was Water. Calm. Peaceful. Kind. And those words had brought light into the darkness which had choked Wind's mind. The two of them became fast friends from that point on. He clothed her in the best wares he could find. Paid for a safe place for her to stay, taking her off the streets. And made sure she had everything she ever needed. But could never stay. He was bound to roam. That was who he was. So he traveled, and every time he would come back-new stories followed with him. Telling Water of all the things he experienced. Felt. Thought. Saw. He was her eyes. Explaining ever last detail down to the smallest speck of dust. And she listened. He loved her. Beyond what words could explain. And she knew this. And she loved him in return. Many a night was spent embracing in the silence, nothing but themselves and the silence to accompany them." A small cough escaped his lips as he stopped once more. One of the young girls once more raised their hand. It was Nell again. Always the inquisitive one. "Why did he not take her with him on his journeys?" "She wished to join him on his path. But he was greedy. He knew of the dangers on the road. So he would not take her with him. She understood why he did it. Though it slowly took its toll on her. The loneliness of being without him for such long periods. Slowly she became sick. But she always smiled for him, and hid it whenever he visited." Graith slowly said. Coughing again gently as he tried to clear his throat. Short breaths rasping out of his lungs before he could begin. Smiling once more. "One time he was gone for a longer period then usual. So she was wrought with worry. Driving her further into unhealth. She died three days before he arrived. Upon finding out that she was dead, he was grief stricken. Sullen once more. Infuriated with himself. He had been saving to provide them a home for both of them to live. Working every job he could on the way back to her. It was all for naught though in the end." At that point, Graith stopped speaking for a long while. The children were silent. Only the crackling of the fire meeting their ears. "It was a long time before Wind had regained himself. Wearing the bangles that Water had worn when they first met-he began travelling again. Doing as she did. Smiling for the world. Bringing forth happiness. Living for her. Seeing and experiencing in her name. Hoping she forgave him for his weakness, and knowing that he would once again rejoin her. It is said he still travels to this day. Never stopping for long. Knowing at some point he may come to rest, and his heart may belong to another-but he shall meet Water at the end. And be reunited once more." With that the old man finished his story. Waving at the children. "Go young ones, I need some sleep." Midst several 'Awwh's' and 'one more', they began to leave. His hand ushering them towards the door in a slow wave... -
"Oh, it will be such a joy when I wake up in the morn. Will keep my eyes on my clothes. They tend to be evil to me." He remarked in turn. Shifting just slightly as his skin slowly restitched slowly from the woman's magical prowess. Feeling akin to maybe worms slithering over his skin with how his flesh melded once more into a whole form. And yes, she had a lot of work to do. Several fights had worn away at his body quite hard. He was quite literally a tapestry of pain made personate, if you will. But he seemed no worse then a man whom had run a long time and smacked into a tree at the end. Though at moments he may have flinched very gently as she began to work on him. Probably out of being tired.

The large man tilted his head to the side as the Elezen spoke about his large collection of contusions. Somewhat more swollen then earlier, but having subsided just a bit as he pondered about the woman's words for a moment. "Alright, if you wish. Just don't touch me in anyplace unspeakable and umentionable. Which I just mentioned. But slyly." Voice playful as he popped one of his burning-red brows at her in a silly fashion. Smiling brightly. Not being serious in the least. It probably takes a lot to damage that palpable happiness that pervades his person. ((OOC: Yes, we are sneaky sneaky. And go ahead and heal however you wish!))

"Hmmm." The large man said as he pondered on the Catkin's words. Leaning back on his hands a bit more as he looked up at the sky. "This ~is~ going to be interesting." Looking at her sidelong as he spoke. "Will try and alter the traditional methods of training to form around you a bit. That's if you can pass the first test." Nodding his head gently once more. "Which!" He said after a moment. Raising a single finger with one large hand that had darted up from its supporting position behind him. "I will not tell you about. It's going to be a surprise."
