  1. Your RP would have to be pretty awful, and you'd have to be a pretty obnoxious RPer to boot in order for me to blacklist you. Fortunately I've yet to meet anyone that bad, though let's be honest: it's bound to happen eventually lol For now the only people on my blacklist are tell spammers, which is kinda sad because some of them had legit, IC-sounding names, which made me think they were former RPers who have had their accounts hacked :-(
  2. Doendraga has some colorful vernacular when it comes to expressing himself or describing things; while others may curse like a sailor, Doendraga is a sailor. He has a potty mouth, and he artistically paints some vivid imagery with his profanities (which is common) thanks to an articulate mind. He also tends to blaspheme flagrantly without any real regard to how offensive his expletives may be: some favorites include "Thaliak's man-tits!" (when complaining about stupidity) and "Crossed-eyed whores!" (when things just aren't going his way) That said, I tend to refrain from RL curse words mostly because I feel the majority of them don't fit into the setting, like the F-bomb, not because I personally don't like to use them (the reverse is actually true). Most RL curse words that don't have an older equivalent to use seem too anachronistic for me, despite the fantasy setting that incorporates technology and more advanced standards of living as opposed to say, real middle ages.
  3. Doendraga is a virile, charming buccaneer who "port hops" as often as he bar hops: he loves strong drink and he loves less-than-modest company. The man leads a life that prevents him from settling down in one place for long, so why think he can settle down with one person? To hear him describe his views on sex would be to subject you to crude, yet strangely illuminating, "pirate's wit" that would last maybe a few sentences at best. But if you want to dig into his character development from a psychoanalytical third-person...*stretches the typing fingers*... Doendraga is highly objective beneath his seemingly care-free exterior, and his views on sexuality and the actual act of sex reflect this perspective just as it paints his personality (he is so objective and detached from things that he is borderline-nihilistic, but that same nihilism ironically leads him to be hedonistic rather than...you know...emo lol). As such, ERP - if and when it comes up - is a natural expression of his characterization, though he is really the only character I have who is more suited to a lifestyle of casual flirting and sex. He's a charismatic, rough-around-the-edges swashbuckler with a loose recognition of social norms which is a personality that lends poorly to celibacy, so not exploring his physical attractions and the culminations of his charms would close off a part of his psyche that can inspire a great many other developments both internal and external. From within the mind of the character, the assignment of symbols and meaning to sex is something that is constructed by society. Sex is natural - almost reflexive- and thus sexual behavior of any kind is acceptable, which makes it practically ubiquitous, and in that ubiquity it is meaningless...at least for someone like Doendraga it most certainly is: he is more likely to have casual sex than truly intimate moments, and beyond that sexual "arrangements" rather than committed relationships. Even something as non-physical as flirting is largely harmless in his eyes, which is also why he is an opportunistic flirt (it doesn't mean anything, and so he can and will do it just for the sheer pleasure of it). Ultimately, if he feels like giving it up, he will, and if you feel like it, he thinks you should too. Because he doesn't invest specific meaning in sex, he is open-minded in the act itself: he's not shy about making his intentions or desires known, whether that is for or against a physical encounter (he is still, after all, a man of discerning tastes), and regardless of how an encounter ends - and regardless of the details of who was was in what position - it, again, doesn't mean anything. What he wants, he does, and in that aspect he is always the dominant one regardless of whether he chose to play the aggressive or the passive party. His tastes are never static. Centering his perspective around the meaningless of sex and the fulfillment of carnal desires that are wholly natural, he sees relationships as the complicated element of social interaction, rather than sex. He is far more comfortable in bed with a stranger than he is with a romantic interest who wants to share their feelings. Any romantic gestures from Doendraga are, in fact, for the fun of the moment not the desire to cement something for the future, and anyone struck by how charming he might seem should be wary about looking too deep: he may "love" you, but it's a shallow love at best. The way he sees it, either of you can be dead tomorrow.
  4. 8qMhRONmAT8 Your henshin I can't believe I just spent 40 minutes watching people turn into Fruit Cyborg Samurai...but I did
  5. I avoid weaboos like the plague, so no I would not take an actual anime character serious. If you have a Lalafell with a name that comes out of Naruto then I ignore you completely even if you are attempting walk-up RP. Hell, you could even be good at RP and I still won't want to RP with you for the same reason I'm not going to RP with anyone who's character is Drizzt Do'Urden: that being, I'm a lore-nazi. If you're going to RP in a world that someone created, I think you should respect that world and the setting which has, no doubt, taken a great deal of time and effort to create. If you want to ignore the setting completely and replace it with your own, then I question your point in RPing in the first place. That said, as mentioned before, having slight anime-inspirations is fine since inspiration can come from anywhere. But if you henshin/transform, then no: welcome to the blocklist. While FF14 pokes fun and flirts with anime at bit (see: aesthetician questline and the special effects of abilities), I think any anime-esque elements of the game are simply a product of the fact that it was a Japanese game first, and, the western influences by comparison are far more substantial since the fantasy elements draw so much more inspiration from medieval periods all the way through the Renaissance (and even further still). With that in mind an anime character does not - in my opinion - fit the lore.
  6. Thanks for the feedback, guys. I don't do 2-dimensional characters, so either one would have the complexity that "felt right" with their station in live, while at the same time that push to constantly interpret the character in a more fun and engaging manner (good RP never plateaus). Heck, even a cliche character can still be a good one provided they are done well; different doesn't always equate to better Just can't decide which character would be the most interesting to RP, and which would be more interesting to interact/plot with :frustrated:
  7. Hi all I left FF14 about...maybe in March? I'm back now though, and committing myself to endgame but I'm still a writer and RPer at heart. So, first off - NICE TO SEE YOU AGAIN (although to be honest I don't think I ever posted on here... ) With that said, my main character is a Sea Wolf Roegadyn (because woof) named Doendraga Barabharsyn (although it's actually spelled Barabahrsyn in game - I typoed the name and it's been driving me up the wall for the last year because SE won't give us paid name changes and Balmung is too overcrowded that I can't use the serve transfer name changes :frustrated: ) His wiki is here and as I didn't RP with him too much when I first played FF14 (I've been building my own form RP board during this time so it's taken up all my focus) it's more minimal than I usually aim for. That said, I'm debating whether to remake him. Currently he is an irreverent, smart-alec and foul-mouthed swashbuckler and captain of his own NPC ship, the Lookfar (a schooner). However, I've been debating since deciding to level up the "Lominsan" classes that I rather like the idea of a beef-cake intellectual. Highly intelligent with Arcanist/Scholar as his profession, but quite a bit nerdy/quirky a la Beast from X-Men (think: "Oh my stars and garters"). The background/personal plot that I'm debating though would still remain largely unchanged...though I also don't want to spoil it in case I can find interest in people who want to be involved in it (that information I didn't want to post on his wiki) I appreciate that you would have had to have RPed with him to really know what works and what doesn't, but just from an outsider's perspective which seems more interesting? Is the freelance privateer too overdone? Is the intellectual muscle-beast too cliche? Thanks for your time and if you'd like to chat hit me up in game (Doendraga Barabahrsyn)
