  1. God that was such a fantastic game, an amazing world, and a freakin' sweet intro movie. I'm still waiting for them to reboot it (and hopefully not into total crap lol) Back to the question... I'm primarily a forum RPer and run my own board, so when I'm writing there I'm already in that headspace, and it makes an easy transition to in-game when I log on. Otherwise, the motivation to log into the game usually has the desire to RP attached to it. I've always done a tiny bit of RP/headcanon stuff in any game so it just comes natural.
  2. Unfortunately I'm US based so by the time I get home from work you'd likely already be asleep lol However I'm usually on on the weekends at least once or twice, and Doendraga is all sorts of "non-legit" as well as a smuggler. The difference between the two of her being a sky pirate and him a smuggler of the open seas would be an interesting one. Perhaps they've worked together before? There is only so much cargo an airship can hold without being grounded so a smuggling ship might be needed to set up caches of supplies for her and her crew, or move things across the waters when going by airship was too dangerous. Likewise, Doendraga may have needed to get his hands on something flying about in the skies on an airship of its own, or hidden on those floating islands up north. Anyway, if you catch me online say hello and we can chat some if you're interested
  3. My main, Doendraga, doesn't but mostly because I don't have one that would work with him lol My alt, Nunuzaru, however does: it's an ahriman that he's bound with a curse into a harmless, smaller form which can grow to become his mount. I always have it out floating whenever I play as him, and the two share a whole dynamic and everything
  4. This always be a thing because people RP for different reasons. A lot of us roleplay as a form of story telling, and so while our characters are complex, as is our internal muse and love for said characters, ultimately the STORY is of more value and importance. We can have our characters fail, or screw up, or even have not-so-virtuous moments and it isn't personal. For the other kind of RPers, though, everything about their character is personal. They RP to experience a fictional life as a fantasized version of themselves, and so anything that violates that fantasy doesn't sit well with them, and there is no greater example of busting someone's fantasized self-bubble like expecting or asking them to act "human" or flawed...or, you know, having consequences to their character's actions. These are the kind of RPers who make Mary Sues and Gary Stus.
  5. The quickest way to a Roe's heart is a big of plate of food! Doendraga is the captain of a ship and totally-not-a-smuggler whose totally-not-illegal business dealings thrive on contacts from the mundane to the clandestine. He bounces around a lot, but the people who should recognize his face do, and there's no reason Dhemitar can't be one So does he have a stall or something that maybe Doendraga frequents? Maybe Doendraga is a faithful customer that pays well for the rare catches that Dhemitar holds for him, and from time to time Dhemitar shares with him the rumors he's heard from peddlers, Yellow Jackets, and other sailors?
  6. I had a sex dream about RPC. Not the people, the actual website. It was hot
  7. I'm totally with Hammersmith on this one: I don't like the over use of spells and can't help but eyeroll when I see someone who RPs using magic for everything (as if we need to be constantly be reminded you can conjure fire). My taste in fantasy has, over time, changed to lean more toward low-fantasy when it comes to the prevalence of sorcery and magic weapons. Granted, Final Fantasy is a high fantasy game in that the world is not based on the real world at all, and magic is more common place as a tool, but I never considered it to be something "easy" nor did I ever get that feeling from the setting of any previous installments (disregarding of course that it's a video game first and foremost, not a novel with deep world-building) so that's not how I write the supernatural in FF14. I don't just believe magic should have limitations, I believe it should be a test of discipline. Some RPs write magic like people can just pick up conjury and thaumaturgy or arcanima after a couple hours or days. I'm more of a "takes years of intense practice and study to acchieve even the the simplest stuff" kinda guy myself. I'm also not big on the "everyone has a magic item for everything" approach: I understand and like the idea of magic serving as a power source in an industrial sense (i.e. magicite/materia in multiple installments), and I really enjoy the idea of ceruleum and how its refined in FF14's setting, but not a fan of "Little Suzianion has a magic locket that can teleport her anywhere that she's had since she was three because her grandparents bought it for her on her birthday." That's just my opinion though. Different strokes for different folks.
  8. Yeah, don't let his burly frame fool you: Berrod's a lightweight. Doendraga saw it first-hand
  9. Like any sailor worth the salt in his hair, Doendraga is hella superstitious: having a witch for him to consult portents, a diviner, is a must. Doendraga himself is an irreverent, slightly hedonistic ship captain, and a smuggler upstanding citizen who doesn't do anything shady or illegal at all  As for myself, I prefer plot-focused RP or at the very least interactions that have some kind of motivation or action (not necessarily combat-action, mind you, but purpose) rather than just sitting in a tavern somewhere or wandering into each other Count Doendraga as one of Pyha's regulars! I'm in MST zone so hopefully we're in compatible timezones. If you catch me online send me a friend request and I'll do the same if you're interested (wiki's in the signature)
  10. Doendraga is an affectionate, gregarious drunk. He starts handing out pet names to everyone around him and any protestations only encourage their use
  11. Awwwwwwwww sheeeeiiiiiiiiit O2CwOvNFkVQ
  12. I think it'd be far more productive, yeah. Maybe someone should just start another thread?
  13. Banned for not steam mopping my home. BANNED because you didn't ask me. I have a Shark steamer, wanna borrow it?
  14. Try the big fish ship in Costa? It's at least not docked, though I wouldn't call it a combat vessel :V If its the one I'm thinking of (and I may be wrong) it's not nearly big enough for anything either lol
  15. Yeah, I can't imagine someone trying to RP something like an invasion with dozens of people out in the open lol
  16. Aww I love using dungeons in an MMO for the backdrop of RP:love: And those screen shots are adorable. Congrats!
  17. I don't think I've done action-combat a single time in-character: Doendraga's adventuring has always been "off screen" but I think that's mostly because he's a smuggler with a ship and there are no real good locations for sea-faring RP aside from that one ship that's in Limsa (but it's docked and not out in the big blue). I'd like to do more, because he's definitely a fighter, but I prefer a nice balance between combat/adventure and non-combat adventure or intrigue. *sigh* If only we could have our own sea faring vessels...
  18. Banned because I need to steam-mop the entire house and SOMEONE MUST PAY!!
  19. I'm not sure this is something that you can ever really fix because the cause isn't simple and so a solution would have to be just as complicated and multifaceted. LS die because they can't really enforce participation, and dedicated mentoring would end up becoming a job where you are essentially forcing RP connections (which will make one of the points I'm about to make that much harder to deal with). If you're a not-so-well-known RPer here like myself want to become more popular within the community, it's one of those "be patient, it WILL take lots of time" situations, and the amount of time required grows the older that community is. Let me explain and talk as one of those people on the outside looking in: Cliques happen and often times they are unintentional. Sure, some people are snobs, but for the most part - as it has been pointed out - some people simply don't have enough free time left over from real life and RP and so they can't commit to learning to RP with another character all over again (and each RP connection is, in fact, a learning experience). Plus RPing in an MMO is fully-engaging: it's not like forum or post RP where you can respond at your leisure and write as long as you have the right tool to do so. In an MMO you have to glue yourself to your computer. This limits free time even more. Then consider what RP is like on an MMO. No game is EVER made for RPers or with RP at the forefront of its design goals, which means each one ends up turning into a conflicting, messy play pen with pot-holes in the lore, conflicts between game mechanics and immersion-breaking explanations for those mechanics, etc (there is no greater proof than all the lore discussions and arguments that happen here on RPC lol). Finding good RP, as a result, is simply hard. Also maintaining good RP is equally difficult if not more so because people will sometimes poof from the game (and many never return). That last point I want to highlight further because FF14 has such a long and hard past, and as a result, so too will its RPers. Some of us started at 2.0 but there are others who have been around and RPing since 1.0; that's a lot to compete with. Think about all the connections and plots that people have worked on only to have them abandoned by the other people involved (either mid-plot, or afterwards). Heck I can go through the wiki and pick one ACTIVE bio at random and see a list of connections and relationships which is likely over half full of characters who aren't even around anymore or are barely active, but based on the descriptions these were clearly involved relationships with stories behind each one. Also, think about all the plots that have going on for SO LONG and are simply too involved to bring in some random new face out of the blue. As a result, it's not hard to believe that good RPers tend to cling to those other good RPers who stick around for the long haul - they're like freakin' unicorns lol. And that, I've always felt, has the been the obstacle for the rest of us. VeteranA doesn't know Newbie, so Newbie could very well end up leaving FF14 after only a few months, so does veteranA really want to really dive into some serious RP with them especially when they have SuperPlot#1 with veterans B and C going on? Frankly, I can't imagine trying to fit my character in with someone who has 4842735049 IC RP buddies, and have people here on the RPC hanging off their jock in every thread lol I mean, look at the fun games that we play here like "Characters mine have a crush on" or "Characters I want to RP with more" or "Let's draw pictures of each other" - it's the same popular characters featured over and over again. Who wants to be another face that someone else has to struggle to remember along with all of their FC buddies, RP linkshells, buddy lists, and the people here on RPC? The relationship, in the beginning, would likely become an obligation, and being a chore is not something any of us enjoy which is where the newbies contribute to the failing inclusivity of the community. In the dynamic of established-RP and unknown-RPer, it will likely be the "new guy" who is going to feel that way because he or she is pretty much a side project for the person who already has a bunch of storylines going on and is just. flatout. EXHAUSTED lol A person can sense when they are being a chore to RP with, and it robs of them of the inspiration to continue. So they leave, and they take personal offense and say that the veteran wasn't trying. And that's what I mean by multifaceted cause: it's not just the popular kids' fault and it's not just the newbies' fault. It's just unfair circumstances because that's life sometimes. I know we live in an age now where every kid gets a trophy just for showing up, but the universe does not exist to please us. Remembering and being rationale about that is what helps keep me from being frustrated in my attempts to branch out more here on the RPC and in-game and it's something I encourage others to do as well: when you remind yourself that people aren't trying to form cliques, you don't get mad when you see it happen. That's the only advice I can offer to my fellow "unknowns:" stiffen your upper lip, be level-headed, and be patient. Alternatively - and this isn't a jab at those of you who do have popular characters because obviously you've put the time and energy into your RP and should be proud of being in demand - don't try to get in with the veteran characters or RPers in the first place; don't make that a goal. Try to RP with other people who aren't so well-established in the community instead. And always try to match up your time-zones.
  20. I love the smearing - makes it almost look like they're drawn with real pencil or charcoal (for a second actually I thought you had hand-drawn these yourself). What program did you use? PS?
  21. I don't want to RP with any of you. You're all lame.:love:
  22. And gets fired in not-so-mysterious ones lol
