Big events coming in the story arc of Aethereal Warriors characters, it seems Awesome RP last night!

*waves* Hello there! :cactuar: Welcome to Balmung! I've seen the type of roleplay you describe happening all across the server, so I hope you find something that fits you. I'm a lore-hound myself, and strive to adhere to it as well as I can. If you want to roleplay, sometime, feel free to look up Y'lyfriel Sikah. Cheers!

High End Scholar Tomes: "Like the Omnilex, But Not"
DeerNoises replied to Cota Orben's topic in RP Discussion
Casting aside the fact that we replace our Scholars' grimoires many times as we level up and gain new gear, I roleplay Y'lyfriel as finding a special significance in one, single tome. It has a lot to do with where the tome was compiled. This is pretty much exactly what I roleplay. Lyf's grimoire is a comprehensive collection of tactical information, scholarly expounding, and geometric diagrams for her reference when focusing aether. Much of it was written by her or borrowed from other scholars and arcanists working in Limsa Lominsa. However, this makes much of her use of magick very "modern," when compared to what the scholars of Nym might have worked with. You could weave in your character's acquisition of this Omnilex with a change in tactics and broadening of historic knowledge. Applying historic magicks to contemporary problems, for example. Or, a deeper connection to the faerie-creature he's bonded to, if that's part of your roleplay. I'm remaining a bit broad, here, so you might keep some of the specificity in how you approach this a mystery In previous MMOs, I've always used "show, don't tell" as a way to illustrate the power or significance of supposedly "rare" items. Seeing how such an item changes your character, or changes how he fights/behaves/sings/speaks/makes cakes, etc. tends to come off as immediately more believable than a reciting of facts about that item, or how it was required (not that such knowledge isn't important; it is, just less so in the middle of roleplay, from my experience.) -
*waves from Balmung* Welcome, fellow member of the Jaguar tribe :tonberry:

Welcome to Balmung, and welcome to the RPC! I require equal amounts RP and PvE content myself, so I look forward to running into you in both. Feel free to add Y'lyfriel Sikah in-game if you'd ever like to RP, or if you require someone to heal your dungeon o/

Welcome! Grats on your debut My Sunseeker Miqo'te, Y'lyfriel Sikah, is trekking through Eorzea for the first time, stretching her legs after spending most of her life in La Noscea. If ever you're looking for RP, feel free to /friend me in-game! :cactuar:
-
Y'lyfriel Sikah - Miqo'te IC Reason to Send Her Mail-- She's a La Noscea born Sunseeker who has no actual connection to a tribe aside from her name. She spent most of her life on the La Noscean coast, and within Limsa Lominsa itself. Recently, she journeyed to the Twelveswood on assignment from the Yellowjackets of Limsa and the arcanists guild, but fell in with a company of friends, with whom she has decided to remain. She has not been in touch with any of her La Noscean acquaintances, and some might have become worried for her. Another possibility is that her name has been spoken in the Twelveswood. Lyf is an accomplished arcanist and an amateur archer; some word may have traveled about her skill (or lack thereof, respectively) within that region. If you'd like your character to be in touch with Lyf for a more specific reason, feel free to shoot me a PM Happy to work on forging more connections for her.

Welcome to Balmung! The roleplay on this server is widespread and fantastic! The dungeons are super-accommodating for roleplay! Exclamation! In all seriousness, welcome Eager to see you around Eorzea o/ :tonberry:

Welcome to Balmung! I've been nothing but impressed by the RP community, here. Great folks, and Balmung is always plump full of roleplay. Hope to see you around the world! :chocobo:

Welcome to Balmung! Hope to see you around the world, sometime I've found FFXIV to be particularly well-suited to IC dungeons, as there are very few intrusive elements (NPCs, too-frequent cutscenes) that would interrupt the roleplay. Good stuff!

*waves to Solverus* I'll be around off-and-on today, as well, if you've any questions. Also, thanks for the successful dungeon- and RP-nights lately. Been a blast

We've welcomed some fantastic new people over the past couple of weeks. It's been great getting to know Lotan'to, Onuma, and soon, Nico!

*rolls in* The warmest welcome to our newest members Also, I am the mentioned Xerali, if anybody has questions about the Free Company, our roleplay, or joining us!

I blame my own lack of specificity for this one; I was still on the topic of something relatively difficult to obtain ICly, such as a coeurl mount. Certainly, "having something because it's cool" does not indicate shallow roleplay. It wasn't my intention to make a blanket statement about everything a character owns. Instead, I meant to indicate that the motivation behind a character having something rare is something I enjoy exploring.

Considering the depth and potential for performance in FFXIV's crafting system, crafting-oriented roleplay seems fairly accessible. My main is a weaver, and cooks and fishes as a hobbyist; while it hasn't provided any roleplay avenues thus far, I've witnessed it working for others. Color me optimistic and excited. It'd be fun to be a part of something like this.

Thanks or the excellent responses, folks Most of the MMOs I have played previously have had vast arrays of riding-mount options, and I've always found it interesting to discuss the lore justification surrounding them. (Also, it's my super-secret hope that I can someday add barding to a coeurl mount. Shh! Super secret!) "Because it's cool" is certainly a fine justification, as everyone's roleplay is their own, but I've always liked to explore motivations for such things a little deeper on my own characters, and what's been said here is very helpful For coeurl in particular (and any other mount that would be extremely dangerous, untrained), I've assumed that there is either a small faction that captures and trains them, or said mount would have spent most of its life with its rider. Anyroad, openness in how one can approach such a thing in-game is always welcome.

News Edit: I have transferred to the Balmung server

Heya RPC While FFXIV does a thorough job of explaining how one might acquire a chocobo (and also gives the player tangible ways to train it and travel with it), other mounts are different. While there are a few to choose from, between the Conjurer mount and the account reward mounts, I'm specifically curious about the coeurl. Is anyone roleplaying their character as actually having a rideable coeurl? If so, how did he or she come by it? How do you justify it within the lore of the game? Who trained it? I'm not a cynic; just a curious player. I'd love to hear how anyone else is going about this, as the concept has crossed my mind for one of my own characters.

:bouncy: Well, well. Hello there.

Y'lyfriel shifted uncomfortably in her seat, one ear perked towards the sound of the approaching storm. "Apparently," she said. "Anyroad, I'd not meant to go anywhere. Sittin' tight until the sun is on its way up again, and I can see my feet out front of me on the road." Her fingers toyed against each other anxiously on the table, and she eyed the bar again. "Do you often play here?" she asked, clearly desperate to get her mind off the storm.
-
Lyfriel ducks her gaze as she recognizes Rhesh'ir, intent on keeping him from seeing her (though, who knows how successful she is.) She sits back down at her table, and immediately buries her face in the pages of her grimoire, turning back to the first page, and re-reading what she has already spent the last bell pouring over. When the bard's pleasant music sounded from the corner, her quick ears perked quickly in its direction. Her lips thinned as she thought, silent, tail swishing in frustration. After a few long moments (and undeniable enjoyment of Rhesh'ir's music) she turned in her chair to watch him, staring. A flush of color crept into her cheeks as she looked into his eyes briefly. In spite of the calmly nature of the miqo'te's music, the two elezen at the bar have turned to listen to him, their own conversation with the bartender now playing second fiddle to the tunes.

The small tavern was nearly empty; a bad sign for such an establishment when the sun was already on its way down. On the thin road leading past the Twin Adder encampment, Y'lyfriel Sikah had heard whispers of Ixal encroachment. She'd never seen the feathered beastmen, only had heard stories, and whispers of their near danger had quickened her step. Not that she had felt any safer when the sun dipped below the trees, and the only safe haven was this small tavern, the few dwellings surrounding it, all huddled inside of a low, wood wall that Lyf could practically see over, if she stood on the tips of her toes. Regardless, she had ducked inside without talking to anyone. Two grizzled elezen, a man and a woman, were huddled up to the bar, talking to the hyur bartender. The man cleaned wooden cups with a scrap of cloth as he chuckled at some joke one of the elezen had told. The only other patron, aside from Lyf, was a lalafell. He was asleep in the corner, slumped in his chair with a feathered hat pulled low over his face. A bow and quiver--appropriately small for the little fellow--leaned against his chair. Y'lyfriel sat still for nearly a bell, flipping through the memorized pages of her grimoire to pass the time. Eventually, when nobody else arrived, and the only sound was the muffled talk of those at the bar, she got to her feet, intent on ordering a drink. Just as she did, the door opened, and a hurried Wood Wailer pushed his face in, glanced around at the tavern's occupants, then quickly ducked out.

I'll be there with bells on, of course This really is a fun event (and a great excuse for any manner of in-game shenanigans. )

Heya heya! I'm a newbie to Gilgamesh (and these forums) as well! *OOC A fist-bump* Look up Y'lyfriel Sikah, if you want RP, or a Scholar to heal your dungeon.
